I needed to finish my 20-hour pre-licensing course by early October so my hours could be banked to NMLS before my ID got deleted. After checking online, I saw a lot of people recommending MEC, so I went with their course. I didn't want to do in-person or live webinar classes, so I chose their on-demand video course instead. You can pick how many days to finish it -- 3, 5, 10, or 14. I went with 14 days to be safe but ended up finishing on day 12. The system controls how many hours you can do each day, and the videos only have a pause button -- no fast-forward or slow mode, and no subtitles. The platform is pretty strict but smart. If you stop paying attention or switch tabs, it restarts that section and resets the timer. Basically, you have to sit through all 20 hours. Each section has a short quiz, a mini assignment (someone actually grades it), and a 25-question final test at the end. Once I finished everything, MEC sent my completion certificate and uploaded my record to NMLS the very next day, which was super fast! These licensing courses are pricey, so definitely look for a promo code online before you buy. Mine was originally $305.37, but I found a 43% off discount and ended up paying $174.05 -- totally worth it. Overall, MEC's course is good for getting your hours done, but it's not enough to pass the actual test by itself. You'll still need to spend extra time reviewing the book and doing practice questions before the exam. read more

This program is a SCAM!! I paid for the 3 day course specifically for the price compared to other places and dedicated and blocked off those three days in order to complete the course. On Day three I completed up to 98% of the course the only thing preventing me from moving toward was having my homework graded. After the 3rd day I log back in and my course was locked out I was being forced to pay an additional fee in order to proceed and complete the course. After several attempts and reaching out their only solution is pay all over again and retake the course. read more

I have used Mortgage Educators and Compliance for a many years and always enjoyed the class taught by David Luna. It was cheesy at times, but did the job. I went online today to purchase the mortgage CE and it cost quite a bit more than ever before and something seemed wrong to me. I called the customer service number and a foreign woman answered to my surprise as it was always people within the company answering phones. Found out they sold the company to 360Training.com, the reason for outsourced CS. This company has many complaints on the BBB website. I found another company... Mortgage Education.com, to complete my training, which seems more like what I am looking for and how Mortgage Education and Compliance used to operate. It was less money too. The customer service here sucks. I called the at 1:15 Pacific time and the telephone announcement said they were closed. This Yelp page shows they close at 2pm. In what time zone. I also called Thursday at 2:44 and spoke to a female that convinced me that what I was trying to do, complete a homework assignment was still available. I log back in and it is nowhere to be found. I called back at 3:12pm and the announcement said they were closed. The next problem I had was I could not work ahead. I was told by the same young lady that I had to wait 24 hours from my log in for the system would allow me to access my next step. My complaint is what if I want to work ahead. They would let you. What if I get the flu or something and I can't log in for a couple of days. Am I screwed because they won't let me catch up? What kind of shady business is this? I am at the point where I want to cancel and get a refund. I would recommend that if you are looking for MLO education of CE's LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE! I was initially happy with this course until now!! I completed my course some time ago and never got my license due to personal financial hardship. Fast forward I finally scheduled my exam so I have been reading my textbook to refesh my memory as my exam is in less than 2 weeks. I cant find the NJ pdf file on my computer so I call the school support and ask if theres anyway I could purchase the NJ text book as I take my exam in less than 2 weeks. The customer service was absolutely horrendous and refused to help me. They said there is no possible way they can give me the NJ book. So now im stuck trying to figure out what to do because my education is already on the NMLS, SAFE Exam is already scheduled, but they cant even sell me a New Jersey book! I have used MEC for years and have spent 1000s of dollars on CE and pre-licensing with the company. I am licensed in 18 states, so it is a piece of the process. I recently had a totally unreasonable experience with their 40 Hr. Utah course and wasted a lot of time. Time is our most precious commodity. I received bad information while calling into MEC. Spoke with a manager named Jason and he was unable to refund even though the class was not acceptable. Just sharing my experience. read more

I completed my 20 hour course, including passing the final course exam. The course stated 100% done. However, ME did not submit my completed education requirement to the NMLS as, apparently, there was one more 2 minute video I was supposed to watch showing me how to schedule my state exam (I had already scheduled my exam). No where did it tell me the course was not complete. It shows a course "counter" at top which read 100% complete. But apparently, it was not complete due to this one last video that I didn't realize was part of the course since it said 100% complete and has already taken and passed the course exam. Now, I have to pay again, and retake the entire course and course exam. Nice sneaky way to make a little extra money off your customers, ME! read more

Ok. First off, the videos are Flash and none of the pages are sized properly for a newer monitor. That alone should give you a good indication of how out of date and kludgy this class is. I understand the 5 minute time limit is required, having to click through three pages and take the time for each page to load, plus take a one-question "quiz" is downright ridiculous You can count on this course taking between 30-40 hours when you include page loads,lagging, being kicked off the website repeatedly, reauthorizing Flash each time, and homework assignments Next up is the fact that the instructor, while likeable enough, seems to be speaking from absolutely no script and just an outline. While acceptable during a college lecture class done over a semester, it's absolutely UNACCEPTABLE during a compressed 20 hour online course. No one needs all of the sidebars, opinions & jokes, a multitude of filler words, and the time he spends trying to think of what he wants to say. If these classes were performed for a forensics competition, I'd be hard pressed to give him anything above a last place score. All in all, I hope and pray there are better classes out there when it comes to for me to take CE courses. This one should be avoided at all costs. read more

This is what I have to say: Pros: * The quality of education is top notch. I passed my national exam on the first try. * David Luna - President of Mortgage Educators - is very qualified, intelligent, and a great instructor. He uses real stories that will stick with you. * The company provides plenty of resources available during your courses. The online textbooks and practice quizzes are extremely helpful. Cons: * The quality of video on the site is lacking. The instructors have a cheesy, bright blue background behind them from the use of a green screen. * The website is a flashback to 2009 in terms of design and setup. You are required to install flash player to your browser to watch the videos (I wonder how they will make this work in 2021 seeing that Chrome is discontinuing Flash compatibility and Chrome is the recommended browser of Mortgage Educators). * Some of the other instructors are a bit dry. I have taken courses with Mortgage Educators for over a dozen other states for state-specific education and you can tell that some of the other instructors are just reading a tele-prompt (unlike David Luna who is very engaging). BACKGROUND STORY: Mortgage Loan Officers are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education for license renewal every year and we have a deadline to meet. It must be completed before the end of the year, but it is recommended that it be completed by December 27th to ensure on-time completion. MEAT AND POTATOES: I signed up for this course on Friday December 21st at around 3:45pm PST. This educational resource was recommended to me by a colleague who is also a Mortgage Loan Officer. He recommended the live 8 hour course with David Luna who is the owner of the school. I was unable to sign up for the live (in-person) class due to a scheduling conflict, so I decided to sign up for the online course and try this new school this time around for my annual requirement since it had been recommended by a colleague I trust. Immediately after submitting all my contact and payment information which included my email address and phone number, their system indicated an error for the email address I provided, indicating that the email address was incorrect. There was no typo or error in the submission of my data. The email address I provided worked just fine for the school to send me a receipt of my purchase but wasn't good enough for me to use as my log-in. WTH? Clearly this is a glitch in their system, but I kept trying to trouble shoot to be able to log in and access the course to no avail. I called the number listed to get support but couldn't get through as there was only a recorded message indicating they were closed and to contact online support. I then followed the instructions for online customer support and emailed the support team, to no avail. I read on their website that they can process refunds that are requested within 1 day, so being that I STILL couldn't access my course 2 hours AFTER my purchase and request for support, I decided to find another NMLS approved course provider and I purchased the course with a different school. Today is Wednesday December 26th and I have yet to receive a response to my request for a refund. I did however receive an email at 10:44am PST today (5 days later) indicating that I successfully enrolled in their course. Well it's a little too late for that buds! I've already completed the course 2 WHOLE days ago with a DIFFERENT course provider who is actually effective and does what they say they will do AND they submitted my course completion to the NMLS immediately so I don't have a need for your course any longer 5 WHOLE DAYS AFTER I enrolled, paid, and requested my refund! In fact the NMLS has already emailed me to notify me that my license has been cleared because they received and reviewed the course information from the other course provider. MEC, you have TERRIBLE customer service and this is especially poor when MLOs have deadlines to meet and we are counting on YOU, the course provider to do as promised. Your website indicates you strive to provide the best customer service in the industry and you have failed miserably. Im not sure how other courses are but if youre considering Mortgage Educators for the pre-licensing course, don't. As others have mentioned, the software is very outdated. I dont mind having to stop after every 5 min clip to take a quiz but it lags every time you want to advance to the next step and there are so many unnecessary clicks to advance to the next steps! Trust me, it gets annoying. Also, if you get a quiz question wrong, they wont give you the correct answer. Just leaves you hanging and may just give you a new question to answer. Also the site kicks you out randomly, not due to inactivity but RANDOMLY, and it doesnt start from where you left off when you log back in. Nope. You have to start the 5 min video all over again. There are videos within a course that have repeated the same video 2 times. there are 10, 20 even 30 seconds of blank videos before going to the next video, there are unprofessional words used, words like I don't know? maybe that's all? I think that's all? I think I have covered everything!!!. I cannot even tell you what a difference this course did for me! I took a pre-licensing course with a competitor and failed the SAFE exam 2x. Was very frustrated and confused that I kept passing all their test prep exams but kept failing the actual exam. I took this course the week before my exam and finally passed! The instructors were great and the interaction with fellow students was key for my success! David Luna and his team were fantastic and knowledgeable and really gave me the answers I needed for the test! I actually had questions that pertained to what I studied! Long delays waiting for things to load and buffering and pausing throughout the presentation. I found this company online and I watched the David video to get my LO license. The video was very interesting and he used all teaching technics to applicant learn better...The price of their course was much cheaper than another course in the industry and much more affordable for the new applicant...I went to CA Mortgage Expo in Californian in May 2019 and this company provide free 8 hours class to renewing the license. Mr.David Luna Personally thought this class. His live class was awesome and phenomenal. He brought guest speaker as well same as CEO of the mortgage broker union for the audience. They provide free breakfast, lunch and snacks for the audience. They were well organized. Mr.David Luna was very updated about the industry and he knows what was the industry and in the past and future. All the good reviews are for the continuing education. Don't use Mortgage Educators if you need to pass the exam. Here is why: - It takes way more than 20 hours because you spend the whole time trying to click to the next section, since each section is only 5 min long. - The 5 min section is designed to be more entertaining than test prep valuable. Expect to spend another 20+ hours reading the text material and googling the quiz answers to understand the material. - After each section there is only 1 practice question and often it has nothing to do with what was said in the 5 min video clip. - Even with all the text study material you will not be prepared for the practice quizzes at the end of the 20 hours because the text material does not cover all the questions. read more

Right off the bat, I was let down with the software. It was incredibly clunky and outdated and heaven forbid you ever get bounced out and have to start a section video from the beginning in order for it to count. In a 20+ hour learning experience broken down into five-minute learning segments, those little moments add up a lot. Which speaks to the overall fluff I found in the program. I guess that's the issue with hours-driven compliance training and not just enforcing teaching of the actual curriculum to a testing standard. Dave seems like a really nice guy I'd enjoy talking to about mortgages, but in regards to teaching, I just felt some of the sidebar info didn't go to use when overall it feels like there is a lot missing in the learning material to what is found on the test. And that's the biggest issue here. Even within their own practice testing material, you will find a ton of question details you will feel you never addressed. And you're not going crazy. Cross-referencing even their own testing material to the study textbook, you will find enough times that the questions weren't ever covered. That's not to say the subject wasn't covered, but the specific depths the questions reach to will not be found in your material. And that carried over to the actual NMLS UST SAFE test. Which was the largest disappointment in the time spent through the course. The info isn't entirely without merit, and while I have yet to do any other mortgage compliance through anybody else, I can't help but wonder if there are better educators out there. MEC knows their stuff, they just fell short in delivering that to the standard needed for passing the test in one go. The number of outside materials I had to turn to after not passing the UST by mere questions (71% needed a 75%) to round out my learning was a bit too much for purchasing a compliance learning course such as this. There was also regularly outdated info, some of which they made note of later in the learning process to amend, but why is it even there to begin with? read more

Unfortunately the helpful information granted in the courses falls behind with an outdated website that lacks intuitive features. Clicking 3 times to get to the next section adds a lot of unnecessary time to the course. 20 hours of content is drawn out due to the superfluous clicking and loading screens. Single question quizzes every five minutes (sometimes questions and assignments are assigned prior to the actual information being provided in the course. doesn't make sense). Dave Luna is knowledgeable and kind mannered in delivering the course material, but the way the course is set up TECHNICALLY is just hard to deal with. I took 2 courses. The presenters were good, the content was good. The technology, though, stank. They had me go through the same video 4 to 6 times several times. Their system said that I did not finish watching the videos. That after I got to the "Congratulation, you have finished lesson number x part y, click continue" and I clicked continue, then clicked the next at the top of the L-shaped black arrow. A 7 hour course took me 10 hours. (I was on a phone.) Also, the course doesn't fit a phone screen, does not resize. So, it's hard to use, especially the slide parts. read more

I've got to figure a relative minority of loan officers are eager and enthusiastic about attending compliance-oriented continuing education. You can count me among the majority. So when my firm first hired David for a day long workshop, you can be sure he encountered a roomful of folded arms and rolling eyes. But fast forward 8 hours and you would see an entirely different picture. The room is fully engaged and actively involved. Which is exactly why David has been asked to make repeated visits when the renewal time comes around. We just recently completed the 3rd year in a row with him. David's ability to keep a fidgeting crowd of sales people on task is impressive. He's got a perfect mix of seriousness interlaced with humor, and his course is a well-paced, interesting, and informative event. To say he defied my expectations - each time - would be a major understatement. Also, he stuck around after the event to field questions, handing out business cards to everyone who had follow-up questions. He's accessible, personable, and made the process of potentially tedious work a valuable experience. Tough to imagine finding a better option.
