When we walked into River View we were engaged promptly by both the vet tech and one of the doctors. Dr. Terry took the time to discuss our situation and to give us a tour. It is a very professional, welcoming, friendly and family like environment. The office is new and well equipped for most of the needs we will have. We took our senior dog here for grooming. It was the second time we took her there for grooming…read more Both times we were there, we immediately noted there to be an animal odor upon entering the business. There were 2 or 3 cats running loose and there was a large bird cage that needed cleaning. Both times we were not satisfied with the grooming our dog received. The grooming appeared choppy and uneven. We believe she was not bathed either time. The second time we were there, an employee was upset with us saying we were supposed to call before entering the building. We were told that it was for the safety of the customers and pets because they had problems with some aggressive animals. I cannot speak for the veterinarians, but Have heard they are good. We were very disappointed with grooming and the business in general. We will no longer be taking our dog there.

My husband had a medical emergency and I needed to house my dog Bailey for 6 weeks while he was in the IA City hospitals. I would come home once a week to do laundry and repack my bag, go thru the mail and bring Bailey home overnight to spend time with her and take her back the next day when I would return to IA City. They worked with me and accommodated my schedule every week for those 6 weeks so I didn't have to worry about my sweet girl. They always asked how my husband and I were doing and if there was anything they could do from their end. The employees did an outstanding job comforting me in my tearful moments and reassuring me that I had nothing to worry about as far as Bailey, my sweet girl went. I have used this kennel for years, this is my 2nd lab that has gone here, so I have been going here for over 15 years and it just keeps getting better. Tim and Sarah and their crew are the best. I truly recommend this kennel for your fur babies.

We called and asked for a tour after a HORRIBLE experience somewhere else. They let us come right then and check everything out. We stated Oliver our 18month old Pomsky right away in there 2 day a week enrichment program. He loves it so much he jumps out of the car and runs to the door to get inside. They took great care while we boarded for 11 days and we're happy to give updates when we called to to check on him. I was so impressed with them that I applied and got a job there when they had an opening. We just signed Oliver up for there 4 week training program. Let me know they can put me on a waiting list to take my dog in but in the meantime, they gave me some food so I can get by with my dog and I'm so very thankful for that. I've been there before to look at animals and there's a lot of very nice people here who donate third time and I feel like these yelp ratings are not reflecting the five star establishment that I think this place is and the people that run it they're good people it's a good place. This is I think a great place to find a pet that's in need of a home so trust me trust them be open minded bring your best Attitude of gratitude, and forget about the rest.

I can't say enough good things about XL Canine Rescue…read more Once upon a time there was a girl whose mom despised dogs. (More like Despise, with a capital D.) When she left the nest to go off to college, she desperately wanted a pupper but knew with classes she had no time-- yet. This girl had Great Danes on the brain. Because, you know, as a college student she had an apartment and they are notorious 'apartment dogs.' (Or so they say.) Also, did we mention her mom Despised dogs? A dog as big of a horse with jowls for days and endless drool would really get under her skin undoubtedly... which is all a twenty-something daughter could hope for. Well, years passed. Other dog breeds came into her life... but her desire for a Great Dane never faded. Alas, one day she found XL Canine Rescue and there was a gorgeous Dane, named Duchess. She didn't even consult her partner -- instantly putting in an application for the harlequin young lady. XL Canine contacted her right away and setup a virtual interview. The interview was thorough and informative. But, ultimately, Duchess wasn't for her family. The girl, now woman, was heartbroken. XL Canine promised to reach out if another Great Dane (that was dog friendly, kid friendly and non-aggressive) came their way. And you know what? ONE DID. Winston, a goofy black mantel Dane was a stray and seemed to fit the bill. He was currently being fostered with two other Danes in Illinois. (The rescue thought he was a match and reached out prior to him even being on the website.) The woman and her family drove an hour away to meet the leggy gentleman and introduce their sassy Boston Terrier, Ada. It was love at first sniff. The Great Dane is now in his fur-ever home, though his name is Marv now because he just wasn't as regal as a Winston should be. XL Canine Rescue was easy to work with, affordable, and really does have their dogs' best interests at heart. They definitely do their research on homes between the application and the interview-- as they really do want the adoption to workout. XL Canine Rescue has reached out periodically to ensure Marvin is thriving over the years. Checkout their website and adopt your own Marvin.
