""...WHAT CAN I SAY.. HOW IS SUCH A STUPID PLACE STILL OPERATING...!!!""
We'd had a tough time the night before - trying to find something decent to eat at 8pm - it was 25 Jan 2016 - eve of Australia day - height of summer - broad daylight at 9pm - extra long weekend for many, including ourselves, so lots of travellers on the road - we still can't figure...
Next day - our 10am to 1.00pm appointment over with - we decide to stop at BORDERTOWN MORNING LOAF BAKERY for lunch, on our way back out - it's right on the main road - there's nothing like a good country town bakery - this one was buzzing with Adelaide to Melbourne travellers - must be a good choice...
1. It's a huge place; a big air-conned shed built over the old Police Station; lots of historical bric a brac; a gift shop to the side; all set up for tourists..
2. It was a hot day; it was just on 1.30pm; they had no sandwiches or rolls left in the fridge; "No, sorry, after 1pm we don't make any more.."; there were at least 6 of them working in the place; can't understand why not..?
3. "We'll have 2 schnitzel and salad rolls and..."; "No, we're not cooking either, we've got pies, pasties, sausage rolls, hot dogs and cakes left"
4. We didn't really want pies etc, had them the day before, but we were hungry; "Okay, we'll have 2 pasties, 2 hotdogs, 2 pieces passionfruit cheesecake and 2 softdrinks"; $36 - pretty fair; I pay; we find a seat; just about everyone else in there had to also take a pie and a cake even though the menu boards were chockers with choices..
4. He walks over "Um, I've only got 1 hotdog roll left, you can have the other by itself, or in a piece of bread?"; "No, it's okay just give us a sausage roll instead"
5. We enjoyed the pasties; the hotdog wasn't a good one, not even a 'Don'; neither was the sausage roll, fatty, cheap mince; the cheesecake tasted like a pre-mix and had canned passionfruit syrup dripping down it; the bottled soft-drink was good and cold, however..
Let's get outta here, I said... meaning the bakery, and the town...
