Tons of fun on any day or night of the week!…read more I came to Brushes N Beverages Art Studio for the first time on a Friday night. I had heard a lot about this place recently and was looking forward to trying it out. It is located in a downtown loft space right across from the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center with lots of parking in the front off of Sante Fe. When I arrived the owners Rick and Sue welcomed me into their beautiful paint studio and offered me a variety of drinks and snacks to choose from. I spent the first few minutes getting acquainted with the nice and friendly owners, the teacher of the class, and the other students, then it was time to put my apron on and get to painting! The studio is fairly large for lots of individual painters, as well as for bigger private parties/groups. We all got to pick a seat which was already set up with our own personal easel, canvas, brushes, and a variety of paints to get started. Apparently Brushes N Beverages offers different painting themes on different days/nights of the month. On this particular night we painted a beautiful mountain range with a sunset lit sky! I have no prior painting experience and I have to say that I have not had this much fun in a long time! The teacher was super patient and thoroughly explained which brushes to use, how to mix our colors to make our paintings a little more customizable (the guy next to me wanted to paint a "Denver Bronco colored sunset"), how to create different blending effects, textures, etc.. She even walked around to check on each of our paintings a few times to offer specific help and tips on how to make our paintings as beautiful as possible. After a very enjoyable 2 hours I found myself sitting in front of a beautiful masterpiece! haha! I am so proud of my painting and everything that I learned in just one night at Brushes N Beverages, but most of all, when I look at my painting I remember how much fun it was and what a new experience it was for me in Pueblo! I am going to highly recommend this place to everyone I know! I already want to bring all of my family and friends back here so that they can experience it too! I imagine this place would be perfect for family outings, a cool date experience, girls night out, bachelorette parties, work functions, family/high school reunions, birthday parties, baby showers..the list goes on! Basically, it would be perfect for any occasion where you want to do something different, learn something new, have a drink, relax, have fun, and be proud of yourself when you sign your beautiful painting with your name! Thank you for one of my best nights in Pueblo Brushes N Beverages! I will definitely be back!

An overnight trip in Pueblo plus a really bad sweet tooth took me directly to Bite Me Cake, and I'm…read moreglad for it. I am rarely this far south so am unfamiliar with the bakery options around town; Bite Me was one of the closest, highest rated spots right near the hotel I was staying in. The photos and vibe looked really great based on others' reviews, so I decided to stop in late on a Saturday not to get my sugar fix lol. The atmosphere is fun, and the mish mash of sweets, games, and a downstairs bar I think is super unique and also makes this place more appealing for people that want to bring kids around earlier in the day. Despite going late (I think it was around 8?), the arcade was pretty full of people, which was a great sign. The bakery case and menu is at the back, and there was one very sweet girl (no pun intended lol) running the counter. Even for the time, there were lots of options that all looked like they were pretty good and not obviously stale or old from the day which I really appreciated. There is also ice cream and a refrigerator case of goodies in addition to what's shown here, as well as various beverages you can purchase. I decided to splurge on a cherry cupcake, a cheesecake cookie with cherries, and a brookie. The total was around $12 or so, which was pretty reasonable. I took my treats back to the hotel to enjoy them while watching a show, and they were all delicious! Definitely satisfied my craving for something sweet after a long day. I think this place would be very fun for a date night or a small family outing during the day, presuming it's isn't busy inside as it seems like it can easily feel crowded. Parking is available on the street and may be a bit of a challenge depending on the day and time you stop in, but the downtown area is pretty walkable and more parking accommodations can be found further away. Stop in if you get a chance! I probably will next time I'm in town.

Which, for their big exhibit on a mining disaster with a life-size, almost hologramish girl, walking me through it. It was a chapter of us history I did not know, and they told it it incredible (and at times horrifying) detail. But you left understand the fear of the miners and their families and their desire to unionize. Pandemic: Clear and redundant covid signage heading in. Full contact tracing, PPE, etc, and even though I had it to myself, exhibits and museum capacity were limited to small #s of people in signage as you enter each area. Very impressive. In a way, how Pueblo handles covid, is its own history. As for all our cities. This is the first museum I've entered since the pandemic began. It was a sight for sore eyes, and an a feast for my hungry brain. Very well organized, and really kind staff. And I am amazed at the history I have glimpsed, in this now... small peaceful town. Thank you for sharing.

It SHOULD be a repository of artifacts about the varied history, cultures and ethnicities that have built the City of Pueblo from the 1840s to present. What it IS is something different. There are three sections. One gives a very brief history of the establishment of the original trading post/fort/community established in 1842 and its demise. The rest of the section focuses almost exclusively on the Hispanic people of the area as well as the indigenes. Display placards, all of which are in Spanish first, then English through the museum, consistent label American settlers as 'colonizers' and 'anglos' throughout. The second section, is dedicated completely to the steel industry labor movement in Pueblo. The third is about a small, fringe section of the city, featured because of the strong presence of citizens with Hispanic heritage. There's a lot of wasted space in the attractive building. Years ago, it used to have many more artifacts and gave a somewhat more balanced presentation of the rich history of Pueblo. Most all artifacts that do not support the present narratives are removed.

It's a great way to learn about the history of Pueblo's steel mill and all the CF&I Company's Colorado operations. They have tons of great old photos and the curator is awesome; she'll give you a free tour. You can't go inside the steel mill itself, but a variety of old movies give you a hair-raising introduction to the process of steelmaking. The exhibits cover everything from steel-making to the lives of the miners to the Ludlow Massacre to the only mining rescue train car still in existence. It's worth a visit if you're interested in steel, mining, CF&I, Pueblo, or Colorado history. Still, if they want five stars they're going to have to install and run some actual machines (or scale models) like the Western Mining Museum. They're expanding into a bigger building so we'll just have to come back to see what they do with all the new space.
