All made for an excellent lunch visit for a solo traveler, as it would for anyone. Pasta alla norma was full of flavor, tasting very authentic. The sweet lady serving me spoke next to no English, but sometimes no words are needed and my big smile and thumbs up were appreciation enough to her! Only €6 for that full plate of food (maybe expensive elsewhere but cheap for Milan!), and it had a very local feel. Guests entering were joking loudly with the man heating and preparing the food. My highest recommendation to this humble bar and cafeteria in Milano!
Pasta alla norma A traditional food from Sicily, but Milan does it well too!

There are a lot of veggie and non veggie options and we got the chicken sandwich as Mediterranean salad. The meal comes with complimentary bread. The bread was really good and tasted fresh, the salad was plentiful with a variety of lettuce, tomatoes, walnuts and mozzarella, and the chicken sandwich was also plentiful and tasty. We also tried dessert - a pastry and chocolate both of which were great. Overall great food and excellent service

By cafeteria the Italians I think me fast food - but not at all in the way Americans mean fast food. There is actually a Burger Queen in the train station - but why? Big assortment of hot pastas and related items as well as a big variety of sandwiches (you can get the hot or cold), drinks, coffees, and pastries. I had a prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich on a baguette with some nice greens & a bottle of fizz water aka with gas. 5 euros - that's it. Had my little travelers lunch on the train en route to Como Lago.

I managed to order my panini and water, get espresso and a pastry later for dessert, pay, and thank him for his hospitality without uttering a word of English. It's all about showing the respect that this wonderful culture of delicious excellence truly deserves! The cafeteria itself was beyond spotless, positively gleaming with cleanliness and pride. I had a simple pressed panini with speck and brie in fresh crusty bread. It was affordable (5eu) and delicious. Add a mineral water for another euro and then caffe and pistachio pasty for two more and I was all set for only 8 euros! They kindly let me eat and relax and settle up at the end. I was wondering what delicious speck was all about since I believe it means lard in German. However, I discovered it is another Italian masterpiece of meat preservation. Speck is cured and smoked meat from the Alto Adige region in northern Italy and near Austria. To make it, you bone a pork leg, cure it in salt, laurel, and juniper, and then periodically smoke it with pine or juniper wood for months! Yes, that's right. MONTHS! It's an amazing red color with marbled traces of fat. Sliced thin to maximize flavor, it's an incredibly delicate and delicious meat rarely found in the United States. Try it next time you have the chance!
Life is good with caffe and pistachio pastry!

Saw many local Italian workers come in for lunch during their lunch time. I got three entree plate which was only EUR8.90. Had pasta, zucchini and chicken drum stick. Drum sticks were one of the best food that I had during my one week trip in Italy! Definitely worth every penny! Pasta was also good and with just a bottle of water added, total came out to EUR10.90!!! I love local spots like this, not touristy at all but did see some tourists like us but overall, if feeling like to get away from the touristy vibes, this is the spot!
