Love the DIY fair! It's an annual tradition to say goodbye to summer and welcome in fall. They have…read moresome fun and unique art stands. My daughter particularly enjoys the stuffed toys and puppets. I enjoy the atmosphere and fun crowd. The music is great and so is the food. They have one of the best funnel cake trucks with amazing fried Oreos, sooo good!!! Treat Dreams has an ice cream truck with their famous flavors. The ice cream cookies are the absolute best!!! They have an eclectic variety of food trucks that look and smell mouthwatering. But they could use more seating, it's very limited compared to the amount of people eating the goodies. I love the adult beverages available to purchase through tickets. They have a ginormous variety of beer and mixed drinks, plus some of the money goes toward different charities and good causes. It's ten tickets for $20, but this year I noticed you may purchase individual tickets. I prefer this option! Tickets are $2 a piece, so most beers cost around $6 or three tickets. I got the Griffinclaw pumpkin beer. It was amazing! Very pumpkin forward with a nice spice aftertaste. Most of the mixed drinks are between three and four tickets, cheaper than most bars. I've even seen some for two tickets. The parking can be challenging. We were able to find a good spot and only paid $3.00. But I wonder if it gets more challenging in the evening hours. I bet this a fun time at night. This is a great event when paired with the Funky Ferndale fair. I look forward to next year.

Livonia Spree - Almost at the top of the Fairest wheel! But I had a great time here at the Livonia spree

Pros: -LOTS of activities for little kids -Great security at all times thanks to LPD and their mobile command center -Tons of parking, thought it fills up -Local groups have fundraisers with discounted wristbands that are easy to find -Lots of food options, including stands run by local nonprofit organizations -The ice arena is open with a vending machine and bathrooms. And it's air conditioned -Handicap parking available Cons: - Free parking fills up fast -Gets a bit chaotic in the evenings when the older crowds come in -Craft show is more like a vendor show and out of the way -Some of the workers did not have appropriate sun coverage in the heat and we felt so bad they weren't provided that. -General fair overpriced everything. It was nearly 100 degrees when we went, so we brought an entire backpack of frozen water bottles as well as all the sun gear. Probably due to the heat, there were no lines and our kids were happy to zoom around keeping cool and riding everything they could. There are a bunch of toddler and kid rides which was just what we wanted. One adult wristband was enough to go on a few additional rides with our 5 year old. We brought lunch and ate at covered picnic tables. It was hot, and as adults we were sort of miserable trudging all over the blacktop, but our kids had so much fun and 6 months later, are still talking about it.

A wonderful event in downtown Detroit every summer. Something truly worth looking forward to each…read moreyear. Organized by the Arab American National Museum, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Institute of Arts, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, New Detroit and ACCESS this festival (now 4 days long!) is a fabulous gathering and celebration of global music and culture. From Puerto Rican drums and dance to African influenced choirs and hip-hop, rock, reggae, soul, motown legends, Japanese drums, bollywood, jazz, funk....you name it, this festival's got it! Even poetry! Taking place primarily at the Max Fisher (DSO) building there are always multiple stages and performers happening at any given moment so there's plenty to see and do both inside and out. This past year featured a street fair with plenty of crafts, arts, and eats for purchase along with an outdoor stage (which took advantage of the beautiful, although hot, weather!). This year also featured cocktails by locally produced Hard Luck Vodka along with plenty of food vendors for snacks. You're also welcome to bring your own treats to picnic if you should choose. And the best part? It's FREE. Yes, admission to the concert is completely free. It's amazing! If you've never been please make it a point to visit next year. It's truly a remarkable experience that is worth supporting and attending year after year after year!

Downtown Detroit

Attended last year's Detroit Jazz Festival, I would say this 2019 event was a great improvement…read more Several stages were scattered all over downtown Detroit's Campus Martius, then Hart Plaza. Big-name sponsors such as Humana, DTE, Kia and etc give away freebies in-exchange of your personal details like contact number and email. Huge turn out of the crowd for the Jazz music. If you are planning to go next year, bring your own portable chair or seat cushion. It will be helpful for the bottom if you plan to sit down for hours to watch and listen to the concerts. Admission was free this year. The downfall of this event was the pricing for the food and drinks, quite a markup! I understand the reason..to compensate for the cost of space/rent and marketing to catch public attention. Last Sunday morning it was raining but after 2 pm, the weather was perfect. The raindrops stop falling, and there was a breeze. Dominant police visibility. It may me feel safe but remained cautious and vigilant for possible scenario. Highly recommend the festival for jazz fans.

They eliminated one entire stage and they removed large amounts of seating at two of the other stages. This makes for a very crowded and not very pleasant experience. They ruined the waterfront stage which always had a great laid back vibe and I have no reason why they pushed the stage in a tiny space with almost no seating. The music is still really good, but it seems like they don't care about the festival goers overall experience.
