Last Saturday, we visited the largest, permanent, model railroad display in the mid-Atlantic, owned…read moreby the Baltimore Society for Model Engineers. The Society was founded in March 1932 and is the oldest exclusively model railroad club in the United States. They maintain 2,500 square feet of model railroad displays of steam and diesel freight and passenger trains and trolleys, plus so much more. It was fun to see all the parts of the display - it really gives you a glimpse into the history of railroading. It is not easy to find, as the doorway is tucked into the left front center of the building and the society is located on the third floor with no elevator. The display is normally open on the second Sunday of each month, except May.

From the moment Carlos picked us up in his amazing vehicle, until he dropped us off later on in the day, we made the most fabulous memories together! His attention to detail was amazing. He opened and closed our doors. He escorted us into each winery. He communicated with the winery staff to make certain we were situated. He took pictures of the day, which he shared with us later. Jury Duty perspective:…read more The court house opens at 7:30am regardless of what time your jury duty starts. For me orientation began at 8:30am.... didn't actually start until 9:10. I arrived to the parking lot at 7:43am and there was plenty of parking. The lot isn't huge though so if you wait until 8am or after you may not have a parking spot. With that being said the Rockville metro stop is within walking distance and is a great option. The building was pretty easy to find from the parking lot and a quick walk. Security was easy and took maybe a minute total. I didn't see any signs at security indicating where I should go but the security guard informed me to take the elevator to floor 2. Once upstairs it was obvious where to go. Once entering the jury lounge the jury commission helped me check in using a kiosk. You're able to choose if you want to donate your $15 or not. Unfortunately I was unable to donate due to my employer policy. *side note- make sure you fully understand your policy at work. Once in the lounge I recommend trying to avoid the mass crowd seating and go into the smaller room with comfortable chairs. Here you'll find outlets and the seats aren't as hard. There are computers for use location in the main room- I didn't use them but appreciate them. There was also magazines and vending machines for our use. While there's wifi it's pretty spotty with a million people trying to connect to it. I would recommend bribing a book or a movie to watch because you could be there a while.

What a great day!! We learned so much history of the area and found tons of fossils and several…read moreshark teeth. Our group of 11 ranged in age from 5-79 and everyone enjoyed it! Paul knows his stuff and is so willing to share that knowledge. Tip: Each person should pack their own ziplock bags & drinks in a small backpack and carry it with them. We were not all together most of the time so having 1 backpack for family wasn't convenient. Also, pretty obvious, but a backpack is much more sensible than a bag with handles when you are searching for shark teeth and fossils and need to use your hands. It was a great day & it really sparked some curiosity about not only the shark teeth but also the geology and oceanography!
