I'm so disappointed that I have to write this negative review. tldr - Brandon Tillia, the owner of this company, went completely off on me after we questioned his requests to be paid for his personal accountant fees and taxes that he had not included in his original invoice. In response to my email offering to pay those taxes that he requested as soon as the last parts of the work were finished, he called me "the biggest bitch" he had ever dealt with, a "money-sucking vampire," and said he would revoke all warranties on the work he did. He also threatened to put a mechanical lien on the property and to press charges if I contacted him again. ???!! I'm not even sure this would be possible as we paid the invoice in full and then some.
The detailed story: We met Brandon when he was subcontracted to do some repairs on a duplex we own. From that job, we found out that he specialized in window repair, so we thought of him a few months later when my in-laws had issues with drafty/loose windows at their home. While he was there repairing the windows, he also offered estimates on several other projects. The window job turned into a multi-pronged project totaling over $3,000 of repairs, including diagnosing two leaks and putting an elastomeric coating on the roof. We found Brandon knowledgable and were pleased with the quality of his work. We paid in full for the work he did, after much back and forth trying to figure out the totals because his invoice program was down. About 4 weeks after we had paid the final balance, he contacted both me and my in-laws, saying that we owed another roughly $200 in taxes, because he forgot to include that in his initial invoice, plus we also owed another almost $200 from a bounced check for some additional minor repairs from my in-laws (unrelated to the larger invoice that was paid in full. He then claimed that we owed almost $800 and sent us an invoice that was missing a $700 payment we had made.
We pointed this out, and he was all apologies. Meanwhile, we also confirmed that a check from my in-laws had indeed bounced, so we shipped over the total via Venmo plus the $15 fee he said that his bank had charged. I then followed up with an email to him that included a break down of everything we paid. I reiterated that we liked his work and would pay the taxes he requested as soon as he completed the last few items that were still in progress. I also pointed out, for the record, that taxes were not included as he had claimed, in the prior work he did for us, and that "it felt really uncomfortable to have you saying that we owed more for something we were never aware of on a project that we thought had been paid in full." I ended the email with: "We really like the quality of your work and we would love to continue using your services, assuming that the accounting can be more organized and straightforward going forward."
Hours later, he sent a scathing response to my email, saying that he would no longer do business with us, that I was not a reasonable person, "I simply don't respect you at all after all your nasty and unprofessional messages," and ended the note with "Your a bitch." [sic] He sent similar messages to me in text, as well as in text and email to my mother in-law, even going so far as to say, "I recommend you son find a wife that fair instead of a money sucking vampire."
It was as if a switch flipped - he just flew off the rails. And the weirdest part about it? WE PAID IN FULL and even agreed - in writing! - to pay the taxes he was asking for after he completed the work. I guess I can understand how someone would get huffy after hearing my honest complaint that it felt a bit unfair to be asked for additional money after we thought we had paid in full. But then we said we would pay it!
Bottom line - stay away from this company and save yourself hours of back and forth over Brandon's sloppy accounting. read more
