I was really stuck trying to figure my experience out. I was referred to Barbara on a glowing referral. Sadly, I was under the impression I was meeting with a CPA. I was amending previous tax returns, but also needed to procure an LLC and filing etc. I drove from downtown to El Cajon for a "consultation" at 9 am on a Saturday. I was not told of any fees that would be charged for the meeting, and really didn't come prepared for a filling of any sort. We had, what I thought was, a pleasant chat. Sadly, while in her office, numerous calls were coming in due to a family emergency. She had to make at least three phone calls to respond to various issues, that took some time. I was never presented a billing schedule, time slip, hourly billing agreement nothing. Upon leaving, I was given a list of things she would need to file and asked for a $225.00 deposit. I paid the deposit and explained I was going to be traveling for about a month. That was that. Imagine how confused I was when I was told I needed to pay a deposit upon my return to the U.S. It was then, that Barbara explained that she was removing $130.00 from my deposit for the "hour and a half consultation" (half of which was spent chatting about traveling etc and dealing with family issues). That seemed really underhanded to me. Ask for a deposit that you anticipate taking money out of for services you just rendered? No contract, no explanation of rates, nothing explaining this expectation? I was so embarrassed to have to ask about being billed for time she spent working out her family issues etc. She very nicely just stated she didn't remember making any calls, but that she would take off a half an hour. I was really taken aback by this. If you forget you're charging me for calls while I am right in front of you, what happens when I am not there? I then asked her about not ever being told I was being charged. She stated, "well if you don't think I have earned it then you don't have to pay". Ugh guilt trips are so unprofessional. After a three day overview, I just realized this was not a situation I wanted to prolong. I asked for a full refund, and have been told I should be receiving one shortly. I guess we shall see. read more

Fraudulent, signs Power of Attorney on client's signature line signs their names for them, this is a rampant daily event for her or perhaps after all her time in business and teaching for Society, she is above laws that pertain to the rest of us. Also, has been know to sign fraudulent returns on behalf of "friends or elder clients" see some of the other Yelps and Merchant Circle, seems to be part of her illegal activities and have seen it first hand. Plus she has no knowledge of business taxes or depreciation the "i feel like it tax system". Stay away from this one.. very very scary, unless you want to sue her you can make money from her error and omissions since her insurance can pay you when she violates you. read more

If I could use zero stars I would. This woman filed, knowingly, an inaccurate and fraudulent trust tax return. Filed the tax return incorrectly even after advised by attorneys that it was incorrect the way she prepared it. Whether it was the lack of knowledge or just a blatant disregard for the profession I will never know. Luckily, I was able to send proper documentation so that our taxes were filed accurately and we received benefits that were wrongly being taken from us. read more

Every year she is always educated in all the new tax laws and talks to me about them and how they could benefit or hinder my return. I have called her for many issues & advice and she has got back to me that same day and has never charged me a dime. Most recently I had to sell my aging Mothers investment property and Barbara helped me figure out what our capitol gains where going to be, as well as council my Mother through the process. She also does my Mothers taxes and when my Mother can't make it down Barbara is happy to communicate with her over the phone. I found Barbara knowledgeable and reasonably priced and felt she had my best interest at heart. Not sure what the negative feedback here is about, but $95.-$100/hour is not unreasonable for an accountant. I felt the price I paid for my 2 hour consultation and tax forms for the entire year was extremely reasonable. She was careful to explain details to me that would be important for anyone to know. I did not feel she wasted any of my valuable time. And Barbara only gave me the forms to mail myself so if I thought they were inaccurate I could find further advice to verify I was getting the best tax benefits. So Barbara never "filed" any forms with the IRS for me. I will mail them myself when the time comes and I planned far enough in advance so I could get further advice if I was not satisfied with what Barbara told me. I feel confident Barbara knew what she was talking about and adjusted my tax liability accurately. read more
