A stray dalmatian showed up on our property. Very friendly but with some health issues I had addressed at our vet. As much as I liked Melo (the name I gave him due to his calm demeanor) we just didn't need a 3rd dog. So I found the no-kill MHS who assessed him, thought he was a great dog they could get adopted, and they took him in. I checked back with Jessica every couple of weeks to see how Melo was doing. She always responded promptly with an update, but unfortunately, as a bigger dog (50#), Melo wasn't getting much interest. Jessica invited me to come visit him but I declined, fearing it would be traumatic for Melo -- and knowing it would be traumatic for me. Finally, after eight weeks, I had to see him again. Melo looked terrific -- clean, vibrant, and well cared for. I immediately fell back in love with him and applied for adoption. At this point it was a little frustrating that MHS made me go through the formal adoption procedure -- since I had been the one who brought him in. But I realized this is a good thing. They did a very thorough vetting of me, my living situation, and my means to take care of Melo properly. This showed me they don't allow their dogs to be taken by just anyone with $100 -- they make the effort to assure the dog will have a caring and stable home. I've had Melo back for three days now and couldn't be happier. He is a well-mannered joy, and within an hour we had re-bonded as we were before I took him to MHS. Thanks to Jessica and MHS, Melo was given great care while in their possession. I just love this dog! I wish I could give this place a 0. 1. I recently had the pleasure of visiting this facility, and I must say, I was truly taken aback by the exceptional 'customer service' provided by the front staff. They certainly have a unique approach to making you feel unwelcome. It's not every day you encounter such an enthusiastic attitude about being inconvenienced by a visitor. 2. I was also impressed by the shelter's 'clear' communication. After I reached out via email for some important questions, I received a response that really set the tone: apparently, emails are only responded to at the staff's convenience. 3. The shelter itself could certainly use a little TLC, but I'm sure they prioritize other things. After all, it's not every day you visit a place where the staff makes you feel like a true bother just for showing up. If you're looking for a warm and inviting place to adopt a pet, perhaps consider other options before visiting here. I would like to add that this facility did have 2 younger women who were AMAZING and KIND employees to us that made us feel so welcomed on 3/25-3/26. read more

We fell in love with a sweet cat! So I guess this is a love story over a review. We found our match on Petfinder.com, Emailed Moore Humane Society, then it was on. We hopped in the car and took a little drive, To see if this boy and our family jive. He looked at us with big green eyes, Slinking around our legs, to our surprise. We knew he would be a perfect match, I mean look at the tail with a white patch! So needless to say, we had a wonderful experience with the shelter. worst experience. My husband went in and picked out an animal for me for Christmas about 1-2 weeks ahead. after the application and the wait they called on the night before Christmas Eve that it wasn't going to work to get the animal. I assume they found someone else they wanted to give it to. My hubby said "well there goes your Christmas present". It took them 2 weeks to decide and couldn't call. They have animals there that ave been there literally for years. Don't think they want to adopt them out. Worse place to go. read more

We found two abandoned and neglected dogs wandering on the highway nearly hit by speeding cars several times. Thankfully we were able to get them to safety. The folks at Moore Humane Society were absolute angels. They met me after hours and took these two cuties in. I hope they weren't abandoned by their owners but by the looks of them, sadly that is likely the case. I know the fate of most dogs who are dealt with by animal control and traditional shelters and I didn't want blood on my hands. After what we went through getting them off the highway I really wanted to make sure these guys stood a chance. Moore Humane is a No Kill shelter, meaning they will do what it takes to bring friendly dogs to health and find them their forever homes. Found a kitten at the park and brought it in. Was told I had to wait. Employees were making phone calls about dogs up for adoption, looking at photos of animals, chatting about their schedule, taking their time. 45 minutes later they turned me away due to lack of room. I feel like that is something that they should have been able to tell me as soon as I arrived. read more

Some of the cats exhibited obvious signs of ringworm, such as missing parts of the fur, dandruff and scabs, over-grooming, and red lesions. When the concern was brought up to one of the front staff, it was not taken seriously and I was told that ringworm is an airborne illness and there's no way to prevent it. I was also told that as long as there're no other cats in the house/apartment, they don't need to be quarantined. None of which is true, so it seems as though either her boss (Corinne Kern is the president, found on their website) is telling her misinformation to expedite the adoption process or she just has no idea what she's talking about. If the cats do in fact have ringworm and they're not doing anything to treat it, all of the animals are going to continuously receive this problem. The kittens are quarantined off for a mysterious "airborne illness" as well, so it makes me wonder if they also have this fungi. When asking about the kittens, all I was told was that whatever it is is highly contagious and is spread through the air. I just wanted to bring this concern to the public because spreading misinformation about something that is common and treatable and then acting as if there's nothing that can be done about it is wrong and lazy. Under the, "Our Mission" statements, they list, "Pet health and pet training information", and under the, "Shelter Policies", they say, "We will not knowingly place an animal that is unhealthy or aggressive into someone's home.", which is ironic. If what I'm saying is true and the care there is as lackadaisical as her attitude, then I will most definitely accuse her of animal abuse. Think about being covered in scratchy, itchy, red scabs and not getting treatment; then, spreading it around to your peers who are both adults and children. Just keep this information in the back of your mind when visiting Moore Humane Society. read more

We were visiting the area last week and on Saturday the 17th of February our 5 month old puppy Ryder got loose and ran from us. After notifying local officials,neighbors and Moore Humane Society, the staff at MHS went over and above our expectations in getting the information out to the public making flyers, bringing them to us and doing everything they could to help us find him. The quick response they gave is what led the way to being able to pinpoint a search area. The flyers were the first link in the chain of events that got us to the correct area. The staff is very considerate and truly compassionate to there job. I can honestly believe them when they say that they will keep helping until he was found. We want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for the effort they put out allowing us to be able to have moments like this. Thank you again Shelly! read more

My husband and I were looking for a cat or kitten to add to our family. We drive over an hour to look at their shelter. We fell in love with Calamity the calico and put in an application for her. We were told we would hear from them soon. After a couple of weeks of hearing nothing from them and my phone calls never being returned I drove the hour back out there again to talk to someone in person and visit with Calamity. Only then were we were told that she had to be fixed before we would be either approved or denied our application. Understandable. However, that would have been nice to know at the time of application. Flash forward A MONTH AND A HALF to yesterday when I reached out again and called them and they said my application had been reviewed and they weren't sure why it was held up and they would call me back. Obviously they didn't, because they never do, so I took the initiative and called again only to hear "oh! I was about to call you. Yeah....we don't think you and your family are a good fit for Calamity." Don't bother asking why, they won't tell you. This is the least professional shelter I have ever been to. I'm not mad that I wasn't approved the the kitten. I'm kind of upset because we fell in love with her. But I AM mad because they gave me the run around for two months when they clearly had no intention of letting us have this animal. I hope that she finds a good home and I hope that this shelter hires more professional people to handle the adoptions. read more

I love playing with the kitties here; they are really adorable and you can take them out as long as someone is with you or one at a time. But if you're interested in actually adopting a pet, go to the Animal Center shelter that's right down the street instead. I went here almost every day after filling out the application and asked for updates often, always resulting in a "we'll call you when we have any information for you." Apparently, there never WAS any information. When they said "we'll call you tonight," I never got a call. When the MANAGER said "we'll call you on Monday," I never got a call. It's like they don't want to find homes for these animals, which is the opposite of what a shelter should be trying to do, especially a no-kill shelter. read more
