I was in Wilmington for a few hours on Friday, and I wanted to grab a nice bottle of wine to enjoy when I arrived at my airbnb later that evening. Moore Brothers Wine was just near when I had just enjoyed an early dinner, so I drove over. They have a large parking lot, so I parked and wandered in. I didn't realize what a special wine shop I was walking into! Moore Brothers is a family-owned wine shop specializing in small-production wines and they've been open since 1996. They have three locations - this one in Wilmington and two others in Pennsauken, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York. The shop is organized by wine region, which was helpful. The customer service could not have been better. I was welcomed to the shop and offered help by no fewer than two staff members. When I brought the wine I'd selected to the checkout area, they asked if I wanted them to print the tasting note for the wine I'd selected, which was wonderful. I took it with me and read it when I opened the bottle that evening at my airbnb. Moore Brothers Wine is incredible and special. It's not the largest bottle shop but the wines on their shelves are specially selected and are wines they care about, made by winemakers they know and respect. It's just a different way of shopping for wine. So it's a great shop. I'd love to return when I'm next in Wilmington! read more

Moore Brothers Wine - They printed the tasting note for the bottle I bought - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Wilmington, Delaware

Don't know much about wines, but staff here is knowledgeable and willing to educate its customers. Good selection with varied price points.

Great event learning about biodiversity and how that impacts wine growth and sales. The educator was fun, interactive, knowledge and pours a mean glass of wine. Grabbed two bottles of wine with a discount and special on the wines to enjoy for upcoming family events. The location is quaint and friendly with the staff willing to show me where certain wines are and their tasting notes. read more

Moore Brothers is an exceptional wine shop. Their wines are sustainably farmed and come from smaller producers in the United States, Europe, and South America. Over the years, I have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. If you have a food pairing question, be sure to ask Catherine for help. Having studied at Cordon Bleu, she is a gold mine of information. read more

I love purchasing wine from this store. It's a very unique selection. Even at the low end of the price range, where I shop, I find interesting wines, and the story behind the wines is always interesting. It's my go to for bringing a bottle of wine to a dinner--usually two bottles. Check out the website, order the wine and pick it up. read more

Great selection! Great staff! If the whole city/state/country/world was as friendly, pleasant, and as good at what they did as the entire staff of Moore Brothers, we'd all be better off! Love ! love! love! the experience shopping there, in addition to their great selection! read more

Took the free Italian wine intro course(1.5 hrs). This is an amazing introduction course with free trial of four different styles wine. Interesting short story about Italian wine geographic information, which types of grape plant in specific regions, how the wine made , brand, delivered etc. Also we tried different style of wines provided in the seminar session. From the Verdicchio(white grape wine) to Dolcetto, Chianti, and Amarone. Prices goes low to high. These taste are so good. Hands down, the awesome one and half hour learning experience. I am getting to know how to read the label on the bottle, what the specific letters mean. What is the highest quality of wine labeled which are DOC or DOCG(Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) A tons of information with extraordinary taste experience. Next time, I would tell my friends how to pick up the right wine. Choose the right wine at a right time usually make a meal gourmet. Last but not least, Bring a jacket with you. read more

Used to go here when I lived a little closer. The staff is very knowledgeable, collection of wine is from small boutique producers who in many cases has met the staff personally. Many good selection in the low to mid price range (less than $50). One of the few stores that carried a Monbazillac. The ability to upload the wine you purchased along with tasting notes to your private area on their website is a plus in case you ever wanted to refer to it or make a repeat purchase. I would give them 4.5/5 stars. Only reason I hold back on the 0.5 star is the narrow selection range. read more

This is the best place to buy a bottle of wine in the area. The staff is consistently warm, interested and helpful. Without exception, recommendations are perfect for the meal or the occasion. Selection is always broad at all price points and we always have a great wine at the cost we wanted to pay. Always a pleasure! read more

I love this store. I will admit I can be a bit of a cheapskate, and therefore their prices can go a little high for me, but considering their efforts to get to know their suppliers intimately, and their commitment to natural and organic winemakers, the prices are justifiable. That said, they have PLENTY of reasonably-priced and delicious wines. What puts Moore Brothers over the top, though, is their knowledge and service. I know just enough about wine to know how much I don't know. When you walk in, someone wants to help you, and if you want, you could have a 20-minute conversation about wine. They will print off notes on the wines you've purchased. Their tastings are informative, personable, and enjoyable. Also, during the COVID-19 pandemic, they have donated proceeds of certain specials to different groups hit hard by the shutdown. Buy your wines, especially wines for special occasions, at this store. They're good people. read more

If I could give this place 9,000 stars I would do it. This is the best wine store I've ever been to in my life. These people really, really, REALLY, know their stuff. You know how sometimes, you go into a store to buy wine, and some guy is like, "can I help you find something?", and you tell him roughly what you're looking for, and they recommend something, and you go home all excited to drink it, and then you open it up and take a sip, and you're like, "what the hell is this", and then you have to go back to the store and kick the guy in the nads? Yeah. That doesn't happen at Moore Brothers, because they don't bullshit you. If they don't know something about a particular wine, they will tell you so, and then find someone who does. On top of that, they really aren't snobbish about wine. They try to talk to you on a level you can understand. If you know a lot about wine, that's great. If you don't, they won't talk over your head, but they won't talk down to you either. I've always felt very comfortable speaking with the staff here. All of their wines are cared for properly, and known to be good quality wines. Many of which you can't find elsewhere. Read: If you go here looking to pick up a few bottles of Yellow Tail Merlot and Woodbridge White Zinfandel, you're an idiot. There are also stores in South Jersey and NYC, and while I haven't been to either of them, I know I can confidently recommend them to anyone who might happen to be in the area. Oh, the other thing? You needen't sever arm nor leg in order to buy these great wines. They are very reasonably priced. If you can appreciate wine even a little bit, you will find stuff for $12-15 that will absolutely rock. Please, do yourself a favor, if you want really quality wines that you can trust, go to this store, or, if you live too far away, have them deliver! I really can't say enough great things about this place. read more

While this place has a plethora of wine at various price points - that can be said about many other stores in the area as well. This place, however, does manage to have the most condescending, arrogant staff around. Their inability to work within a budget is utterly ridiculous. I asked for a $15-20 wine and the employee offered me 3 separate $25-30 wines before finally finding me a single $20 wine that he proclaimed "okay". I'm 25, on a budget, and if a wine is $20, it's going to have to be better than "okay". I've had excellent wines for sub-$10 at stores not far from here, and enjoyed the experience of buying them on top of it! As for tastings at this store, prepare to be in a mob. It's absolutely overcrowded, and it's as if they actively try to pour as slowly as possible - not that there's even ever enough to go around. I've gone to two separate tastings and walked away without ever being acknowledged aside from the person pouring the wine asking me if I was ready for the next (I had been for more than 10 minutes). At both wine tastings, they've "run out" of wine. Please enlighten me as to how this happens in a WINE STORE - because I don't get it. Needless to say, I've since stopped shopping here. They only get 2 stars because they do have a large amount of wine in stock (except for those they're tasting, apparently) and a good location. read more

I love Moore Brothers - I'm so happy I found it, during my quest for something other than the state run stores in PA. I travel to Europe for work and regularly bring home bottles of wine - where you can find a nice bottle of red for less than 10 euros at any grocery store. But try to find a value bottle here and it's a crap shoot - Moore Brothers has a nice selection of wines from inexpensive (around $10) all the way up to pricier Montrachets for $100+. Most of their wines, though, are priced in the moderate range and are always a good value for the money. Moore Brothers has mostly French and Italian wines. There are some German, a few (very few) California wines. French and Italian seem to be their wheel house. They send their people over, where they get to know the winemakers, can tell you about the vineyard, exactly where it's located, the climactic conditions, and how many bottles they produce. Usually their wines are small production stuff you wouldn't find anywhere else. The store is kept at cellar conditions (so wear your fleece.) I am not a connoisseur of these wines so I rely heavily on their suggestions. Usually when hubby and I go, we tell them we want to stay in the $15-$25 range, and have them walk us around the store and make up a couple of cases. The staff is very knowledgeable, never snooty and all seem to have a passion for every bottle. I have never, not once been disappointed with a wine from there. My current love is a bottle of Dolcetto D'Alba ($21) they recommended - I'm also loving a Fronsac and a $10 Bordeaux. I'm running low on my reds so will be making another trip soon - and will be stocking up on cases of white when I head to Newport for the summer. read more

FOODIES: look no further. Moore Brothers is like having your own personal Sommelier. We once e-mailed an event menu for a large group and they made spot-on recommendations. Wear a sweater because the store is cave cool, and be prepared to take advantage of a tour of their Vin-ventory (or would it be inVINtory) with a knowledgeable guide. This link will get you to their blog page that gives good basic information about their philosophy & "bio": http://moorebrothersblogs.com/?page_id=22 case buys get us a discount. You won't find pedestrian, loss-leading, underrated bottles in the selection here, but the prices are certainly fair and not out of line especially when you consider the superior level of service. They offer some incredible sparkling wines/champagnes, ports, and congnacs as well, though this is a small, highly refined niche, thank the powers that be. Their blog is informative and interesting : http://moorebrothersblogs.com/ Foodies will enjoy some of the links at the bottom of the blog. We have only visited the Wilmington store, but heard about Moore Brothers from a reliable source that shops in Pennsauken, and there is a newer store in Manhattan. We've shopped other wine/bottle stores and consider this the ultimate for our area. Why even be exposed to tempting, less expensive bottles that you'll regret once decanted? Moore Brothers weeds through the world-o-wine for us, saving us time and money. I hope this helps. if i live in another state and review a liquor/wine store in tax-free Delaware, does that incriminate me as being in violation of some ATF rumrunning law? hmmmmm. well, if anybody asks, we drink it before we drive out of the state. read more

I recently stopped in and was initially nervous as I am new to wine and as a 23 year old sometimes not given much attention in a specialty store but was pleasantly surprised as the staff was extremely friendly, and helpful. They asked what my experience was with wine and what my price range was and from there was able to help me pick out a bottle. I also purchased a cider which I loved. I will definitely be coming back. As a side note, wear a sweater or jacket as they keep it nice and chilly inside. read more

This place is a treasure. You'll find a great selection of wine at a variety of price points. The selection is carefully curated and they do a great job of making suggestions if you tell them what you generally enjoy or what you are eating. Each bottle comes with a printout of information about the wine and food pairing suggestions. Bring a sweater, as the store is kept pretty cold year round to preserve the quality of the wine. read more

Great wine shop with select Bourbons and beers too. I got a case of great hand picked red and white wines with tasting notes and pairings for a very reasonable price. Just seconds off of 95. I stopped just to check it out on reccomendation from my friend Sarah. She has good taste! Thanks! read more

No wine stores open in Philly during the pandemic so decided to go down to Delaware. I heard from a friend that Total Wine was mobbed so I decided I would go a few extra miles to Moore Brothers. I'm so glad I did, not only did I get expert advice on what wines to buy (over the phone) but they also had my order ready and brought it out to my car. It was a nice surprise to find information about the wines when I opened the case! Never going back to TW! read more

Stopped in here last week for the first time and really enjoyed my experience. They have a nice selection of imported wines. Daily wine tastings and tasting events throughout the year. Their price point is a little high but their wine selection is not your typical wine selection... so it's to be expected. They sent an email following up on my visit which was also nice. I plan to return to see what's new. read more

Small growers scouted by experts and delivered chilled to our door. I stopped studying wine when I found this store. The Wine Spectator crowd can have the mass produced crap. I love the artisan wines here, the Dogfish Head of wine stores - I swear by Moore Brothers. read more

These guys know their stuff! The staff is friendly and non-intimidating (always helpful in a wine store) and they will give recommendations of what goes with that goes with dinner tonight. Even if you don't know a Pinot from a from a Merlot, they will be happy to walk you through it- they take wine seriously. If you are looking to spend $12 or $112 they will not steer you wrong. John, the manager is especially helpful as well as Eric. I would give these guys more stars if i could! read more

Absolutely amazing in every way--divinely delicious, genius staff, and completely affordable!!!

Initially, I was a little intimidated waking in the store for the first time. Maybe I thought it would be some overpriced establishment that catered to only wealthy elites. Boy was I wrong! The staff is friendly and very welcoming. They recommended a wine that was tailored to my tastes and it was just as they described. I highly recommend this place. read more

Whether picking up wine to enjoy at home, a party or a BYOB restaurant, be sure to stop into Moore Brothers! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We spoke to them about our cuisine and they gave great recommendations. We even lucked out because they happened to have an open bottle of wine to taste which made our choice that much easier. Our friends also agreed that it was a great choice. It is neat how they track your purchases and you can go online and input tasting notes. Reasonable prices are a plus! I am glad Moore Brothers is just a hop, skip and a jump from my bf's place. read more

Dont head into this wonderful jewel off Trolley Sqaure looking for that $6 or $7 bottle. Rather spend up to $20 to $25 for that little extra. These folks import some of the best labels out there. Get on their email list and they let you know what they are bringing in. I have gotten introduced to some wonderful new grapes (Sancerre, Viongnier) and become more fluent in some ones I thought I knew (Sangiovese and Reisling) due to the time their staff has spent with me. Dont get me wrong you can get great value for dollars or spend a small fortune but either way this one needs to be on your list of "go-to" for your vino selection. Thanks guys! I am sure you will see me soon... read more

The best wine store I have ever been to. The wine is perfectly cared for and extremely well curated. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Wilmington is really lucky to have this store. read more

Good - The staff has a good to great knowledge of the wines in the store, all of which are usually solid values at their respective price points. A great source for some harder to find wines, such as Keller Rieslings. Okay - The wine selection can be spotty in certain areas, as the shop works with a single importer. The selections in Germany, Champagne, and Italy are great, but the selections in other areas, such as the Northern Rhone are sparse and have always been so. Bad - The staff, while being very knowledgeable about the wines in their store, typically have not had a particularly deep knowledge of wines outside of the distributor they work with. It can be a bit frustrating when trying to ascertain the style of wine from a particular producer in their store, as they cannot really give contextual information about the wines and where they fit in the greater wine world. read more

For several years, Moore Brothers had been our favorite place for special occasion wines. With the staff members' initimate knowledge of the vineyards and their ability to store customers' purchase history, recommendations have been great. However, we've recently learned that our go-to staff member, Alex, is no longer with the company. Alex knew us well, remembered our tastes, and always welcomed us. I'm afraid that without Alex, we won't be back. read more

Excellent wine for very good prices. However, staff is arrogant and not that interested in selling wine that is less than $24-$30. I am new to buying wine and the salesman did not seem to want to answer my questions even though there were no other customers in the store. I bought a case of various wines and the salesman barely gave me eye-contact. I would definitely go back for the quality of the wines and the price, but would do research first on my own and know more about what I wanted when I walked in the store. read more
