Some fisherman use it. When they start a sale they post it in the app. They even provide their number, so we can book before going. I was waiting for a King Salmon sale. King salmon is $15/lb in all boats. One thing to notice is that, they will only sell the whole fish. And they wont clean it in a boat. He said that is the law. So the salmon I picked cost $180. It was the smallest one. Bigger ones could have gone about $200. I had to watch youtube video and figure out how to cut it. It was a messy affair, but I got it done. I saw people buying a lot of halibut from a shed in the harbor. Not sure if they will cut and clean.

Captain Winter answered his phone promptly and promised to give me a callback first as I was the first person who had contacted him about reserving the charter. He made good on his promise and we discussed some details -- ultimately, I went with a different option for my needs, but I felt great about the whole experience and could tell that he really knew what he was talking about. I have him on the top of my list for captains to contact for chartering in the future and highly recommend him without reservation to any others that are interested in getting out there for some fish! Plus, he is quite close by in Half Moon Bay meaning that you won't have to drive all the way up to SF for the charters there and deal with the traffic/attempting to find parking. I rented 1-hour paddle board sessions twice last week and had wonderful experiences both times…read more My first time here was a solo rental at 9 am on a Monday morning and I arrived right when they opened. The girl working there, Ava was friendly and helpful. She gave me tips on where to paddle and what to look out for. She also helped me with my PFD and launch into the water. There were tons of ocean birds flying around and large fishing boats were out too. There were only a couple of other people out kayaking, but they were polite and greeted me as they paddled by. I ended up staying closer to the docks and had a peaceful time just observing everything. The 2nd time I came here with a group on a Saturday at 10. Ava was here again and remembered me. She along with the 2 other staff members were patient with us because we took a while to arrive and get started. We finally launched into the water and we made it further out closer to Pillar Point. The birds didn't seem as active this time, but there were more harbor seals which swam right underneath our boards. There were also sea lions which swam close to us and seemed to say "hello." Afterwards, you can hose off and clean your own paddle boards near their picnic tables. They also have changing rooms and shelves to store your clothes. I would definitely recommend Half Moon Bay Kayak for paddling. It's such a good vibe in this area. There's plenty of parking and a clean public restroom close by. Sam's Chowder House is within walking distance. The staff is attentive and accommodating and the whole rental process is easy and affordable. I can't wait to come back!

After leaving our boat untouched for six months, I ran into battery issues the day we needed it for a gathering with friends. I hit a wall troubleshooting online and took a chance calling Michael on a Sunday. Not only did he invite me to come by, but he already had the cables I needed waiting when I arrived. Rather than simply ringing up the sale, he walked me through the fix, explained the risks, and made sure I knew what to watch out for. When I discovered the damage was worse than expected -- acid corrosion on additional cables -- Michael had already left for the day, but still called into the shop so his colleagues could get me what I needed. He also answered my text messages asking him more questions. Thanks to him, we had a wonderful cruise with our friends that afternoon. Such a delightful day on the Bay! My Mister and I went…read moresailing with Captain Kirk's last Saturday, and we had such an incredible experience! We sailed out of Sausalito floating across the Bay. We went under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz and Angel Island. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the views were absolutely beautiful!! One of my favorite parts was seeing SF from the water. The city, the Golden Gate, and the Bay Bridge all looked so tiny and beautiful in the distance. It was so fun waving to people on the shore and having people on the other boats wave back to us. It was just such a happy, fun, and delightful experience!! The crew was incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating, which made the whole trip even better! We were lucky enough to join Wendy from Somatic Ecotherapy, and I'm so glad we got the opportunity to experience SF this way. By the end of the trip, my cheeks literally hurt from smiling so much!! This used to be my favorite boat before the pandemic hit and salmon fishing was closed the last 3…read moreyears this was my first opportunity to go fishing for salmon since 2019. While there are no guarantees and that's just fishing it wasn't a good day. I heard no announcements from the captain as to the conditions. Someone on the boat asked and he said he was marking nothing and that everyone was Looking ( I assume for the school) so not exactly sure why we trolled there but it was 2 hours of nothing after driving out 2 hours. Then we made another move for 30 or more minutes and trolled again. The person next to me kept tangling my like and the deckhands were having issues detangling the mess. I switched from the standard leader to a rotary killer , and then they ran out of bait with no hooks. So I got frustrated and stopped fishing the last 30 minutes. I was a single passenger on this boat and had to ask the deckhands for my rod holder to be installed, because the boat was full and mine had to be added. They tied everyone else's poles, setup their stuff, but I had to ask. Not sure that this the same captain or crew on this boat now. Not sure that this will continue to be my go to salmon boat. Sad to say.

Bottom line, we should not have gone out because of the huge waves and choppy sea. The conditions…read moremassively affected everyone's comfort on the boat and many of the people got completely soaked because of waves breaking over the bow. So, unless you were able to duck inside the cabin, you were freezing cold and soaking wet. The fishing was meh. Half the people on our boat caught nothing and when you ran out of fishing weights (they're special 1lb weights designed to fall off when a fish hits your bait) you needed to buy more weights from the captain. Given how expensive this charter was, we should have had all the weights we wanted. The deck hand was nice enough and the Captain, not so much and basically yelled at people who weren't holding the rods correctly. Honestly, I was happy to get back to shore and will never charter this boat again. If they won't make the right call regarding conditions, then who can?
