For years I've stopped to photo this yellow tiled building and its red doors. I was concerned when I notice that the doors had been painted and the windows in the doors were no long covered with faded Chinese newspapers. I always thought that the building was a long abandoned restaurant. I was wrong. The gallery is housed in a building that has been has been described alternately as a joss house, a Chinese Free Masonry Hall, and a benevolent tong association building. The building looks small but it is roomy inside. There is a large kitchen and the bottom floor opens on Main Street and the there is a balcony that also looks out of the street. The gallery had a different artist featured on each floor. If you are not in the market for a painting or iron work, there was also cards and jewelry. Or maybe just enjoy the building. A trip to Walnut Grove makes a nice day trip. There are other galleries in the small towns that line the River Road and a few iconic restaurants to enjoy a meal.

It was a wonderful experience to step inside. The Studio is owned by Ms. Kuo, who is an amazing painter, who paints on multiple media. Her walls and tables were filled with her work, and the work of other local artists. Ms. Kuo is a petite woman, full of life stories, who loves what she does, and shares the beauty to others. You have to experience it yourself.

His gallery is on Main Street in the tiny town of Locke (near Walnut Grove) and it was a treat to see in person. Not only is it a gallery, but on Saturday mornings it is also a Fine Art School where you can take painting classes from him as well! The themes of most of his work are based on the nature and the river Delta countryside surrounding Locke, an agricultural region and community built by Chinese immigrants in the early 20th century. His subjects range from landscapes to orchards, farmlands, still life, animals, Locke, Colorado, California, Florida, and people. It's a charming scene, and the place is full of history too. Appreciate seeing and supporting local Northern California artists, and Asian-American at that.

She uses mainly Acrylic Paint and a knife to paint and has a gift for perspective, color, and balance. I was especially impressed by her subtle use of blue in a small painting of birches, which really pops out at you almost like 3D. I know too how difficult painting water can be and she tackled that nicely in a recent boat painting. Again I was both surprised and pleased by her use of color here. I am getting ready to publish a new book of poetry and hoping that I will be able to talk Lisa into doing some painting that will capture the mood of my work! Keep your eye on this young lady! As a Chinese…read moreAmerican, I was incredibly moved seeing the museums, buildings, and walking around town in general. They have done a great job saving a lot of the city but there's so much more work to do still, to ensure that the future generations get to visit Dai Loy Museum too. I believe this museum and town was on a series of Ghost Hunters or Ghost Adventurers? Some show like that. This museum was in that episode and I found the stories to be so interesting. I watched the episode after visiting, and out of all of the museums we walked through, this was the spookiest! The inside is very well preserved, you really feel like you walked back in history. The floors are warped, so maybe that made me dizzy to an effect? You cannot go upstairs and it's quite dark. When we visited, there was an owl upstairs who added to the creepy factor. The only room that made me uncomfortable was the money room personally. Please consider visiting and supporting the open businesses here. The gift shop and Al the Wops were open. The two thrift stores were cool to walk through but held nothing of interest. There's many cute cats who run around and mature fruit trees. I think about the people who built this town and hope they eventually found happiness. Thank you so much to all of the people who built this country. The Chinese immigrants did so much and their stories deserve to be remembered. So many stories have already been lost or erased purposely. It's unfair to not also mention the Natives who lived here even before the Chinese and Japanese did. This land is rich in love and sacrifice from people who never got the true credit they deserved.
