Best milk products. The only milk my family will drink. Go directly to monument farms dairy for better prices than the grocery stores.

Everything has to be first somewhere and this first is in Barre (pronounced like "berry") next to the former railroad depot. It is only about 8 feet tall including the base. The monument has the Boy Scouts fleur-de-lis on one side. The north side reads, "In 1909, Barre stonecutter and Scottish Immigrant William Foster Milne founded America's first boy scout troop with materials shipped directly from Europe's fledgling Boy Scout movement." "In the basement of the Baptist Church, he taught us the meaning of citizenship, patriotism, moral conduct and the proper attitude toward others" (Governor Deane C. Davis)" On the south side, "In the mid-1800's the booming granite industry brought waves of immigrants to Barre from neighboring Canada and across Europe, making it one of the state's most diversely populated cities. The beauty of "Barre Grey" granite and the craftsmanship of the city's stoneworkers earned the city the title of "Granite Center of the World"" And on the east side, "Carlo Abate was born in Italy and immigrated to America in 1896. A talented stone artist, he founded the Barre Evening Drawing School in 1911 and taught everything from freehand drawing to monument drafting. A world-renowned sculptor, his contributions to Barre include the figures at the entrance to Hope Cemetery and the concept for this monument." The monument was erected in 2018. There is metered parking. Check the signs for enforcement times. [Review 1666 of 2024 - 154 in Vermont - 22689 overall]

It was a welcome stop over for travelers from Wilmington to Lake Placid at the turn of the century. The house is long gone but the pull out remains and commemorative plaques have been placed here which honor the New York state Conservation Corps. Since you're already parked to check out the markers, wander a little. The West Branch of the Ausable River is here and Monument Falls is nearby. Well worth checking out. "This tablet commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of conservation in New York State. On May 15, 1885 Governor David B. Hill signed the law establishing the Forest Preserve. The surrounding mountains, streams and woodlands have been acquired for the free use of all the people of the State and are maintained as wild forest land for the enjoyment of future generations." And "This tablet commemorates the one hundredth anniversary of New York State's Forest Preserve. The surrounding mountains, streams and woodlands remain a legacy from the past protected by the Constitution of New York State. They represent a heritage for future generations." The Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located in Randolph Center, is a State run and operated…read morecemetery. This cemetery is an eternal resting place for veterans, their spouses, and some dependents. When you first drive into the cemetery, you are greeted with a beautiful monument area with the US Flag. The cemetery is broken up in sections and each section has a beautiful view of the scenery of Vermont. At the top of the hill is a beautiful view of the cemetery, picture included. Here you will find a chapel with a dedication sign (also included here), that can be used for services. Veterans interred at the cemetery receive perpetual care for their lot, including a marker and funeral honors free of charge. This is typical for most veteran cemeteries. However, at the VT Veterans Memorial Cemetery, spouses and dependents interred receive the same perpetual care and a marker for a small fee. Not common at other veteran cemeteries is the option to have your own stone. This cemetery allows for that option and also has a section for commercial purchased monuments and these purchases are made by the veteran or their family. Space is available for either casketed and cremated remains. Also located on the grounds is a beautiful memorial garden that provides a memorial stone for those veterans who are buried at sea or scattered. The cemetery provides simply a beautiful resting place with the beautiful scenery of Vermont in all directions. Certainly a recommendation of mine for any veteran.
