The 1 star and 3 star reviews I've seen for this Yelp review don't give the Boys and Girls club the…read morecredit it deserves. In my opinion those type of reviews come from parents that spoil their kids rotten and their kids don't need to be there anyway. Like sour grapes who wants them? Im an independent contractor that is going through a health crisis at the moment and I could no longer afford my sons regular care provider. With no where to care for my son I came across the Boys and Girls club. The maximum payout for the summer program is $975. My sons mom and I qualified for low income and our son was offered the benefit of the summer program for$500. My son goes to six flags, the Oakland zoo, water world, etc. This is much more than what we received through the private day care establishment prior to Boys and Girls, and exceeded costs of $3000, which is 6 times more and offered my son that much less. Most importantly it's a great ice breaker and social experience for my son. He's developing to communicate and network with other kids that aren't from his school or district. It's a wonderful way to blend diversity. My son at the moment is on a 1 week probation, for not listening, and throwing trash into the sea otter pit at the Oakland Zoo. I don't spoil my kid, he's been reprimanded, and he cried when I told him if he does it again he won't be going back to Boys and Girls club. He said he won't do it again and he doesn't want to leave Boys and Girls Club. When or if I get better I plan to donate money to this organization so other kids like my son can experience the abundance of joy this place offers.

I found the bay area crisis nursery through a different charity. I called the Bay Area crisis, nursery, and, Gina took my call and asked her manager for what could be donated. they were able to accept less than 100 activity bucks, which is fine because at least they're going to a good charity. I get to the bay area, crisis, nursery and park my car in one of the two parking spots. I rang the doorbell and wait you must be patient when you're coming here because the staff could be taking care of children. When the door opened, I was pleasantly greeted by Quinntasha who was very helpful! by the way, if you have new or gently used clothing and toys for children, this is a great charity to bring things that people need and can use.

I wish this happened everywhere I went, but I digress. You can come here to get a free meal, apparently no questions asked, which is really cool. I had some mixed experiences here, but it won't stop me from using some of the day laborers here…read more I called and left a message regarding hiring some people to help me with a backyard project. No one returned my call. Then I went to the website and saw that they were open 6 to 10 am for walk-ins. I decided to do that on a Saturday morning, but by the time I arrived just after 8 am, they were closed. Someone outside told me they closed at 8 am that morning (instead of 10 am), but asked what I needed. I told them I need a couple of guys to help me with my backyard mulching project. He shouted to some guys in the parking lot, and voila, I got two guys to help me. These guys were real pros and came prepared to work. These guys were very hard working, and we worked through the mulch pile in my backyard in about 5 hours (mulching a hillside). I was very impressed with how fast it got done (especially going up and down the hill). I had a second delivery of mulch the following week, and I got one of the workers' cell phone. We arranged 3 guys the following week since we had to move the mulch from the driveway to the backyard, and the job got done just as efficiently and effectively. I'm overall pleased with the day workers that I found hanging outside the center, and I'm glad I went there physically to find someone. So 5 stars for the day workers I picked up. Very hard working and very nice guys. I will have no hesitation to come back here to find help with more projects. As for the center, the jury is still out. No one has returned my call, but it's moot at this point, as I got the helpers I needed. Next time I will just show up and see who I can find in the parking lot.
