Old Fort Park is a cute park tucked away in a residential neighborhood, very close to downtown…read moreTally. My uncle and I were taking an afternoon walk, really loved absorbing the beautiful weather, always love visiting this place! I like the history behind it and how during the Civil War, the fort had been setup as a place to block the Union troops from coming into the city and this location was a high point at the time with nothing around it. Now it's surrounded by older/modernish houses built around the fort. There are also a couple benches underneath a majestic oak tree covered in Spanish moss...I appreciate the beauty and gracefulness of the older trees; they've been around for awhile, bet it's witnessed a lot of changes and has my utmost respect! I bet if the trees could talk, they'd have most fascinating stories from their POV! Also, this is a nice location to sit down if you need a break from all the walking and there's a water station for your furbaby! After all this time, still like Tallahassee to a certain extent when visiting short term at mom and dad's and rediscovering this historical site, a little unknown treasure and nice addition!

There is metered street parking on the streets surrounding the park and within a reasonable walking distance. This park is one of the first formal parks in the chain and date back to the 1880s when it was developed for public use. It is named after the Spanish explorer who discovered Florida and for whom Tallahassee's Leon County is named. The only sign designating the park is a small bronze maker in the ground that can be easily missed. It gets its name from the prominent Captain William C. Lewis family that played a key role in the financial, social and civic activities of Tallahassee for generations. This park is in very good shape and is maintained by the City of Tallahassee Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs. This is a wide open park with a lot of green space that is suitable for soccer/football games, playing catch, or flying a kite. There are a few, and I mean few benches to sit on in the park. The shady live oaks trees that you will find at the park are amazing and very picturesque. They provide a decent amount of shade. This park's main value is it being a chill spot. This park provides visitors a nice place to just sit back and relax. Being that this park is part of a chain of parks, you can bounce back and forward between parks, which is nice. You visit whatever park depending on your needs are at the time.

Lafayette Park is a small piece of what once was a 6 mile by 6 mile land grant given to the Marquis…read morede Lafayette in appreciation of his service during the American Revolution. What was probably a ravine with water flowing through it is now a small park with some up and down to it if you walk or run the exercise trail that winds through. Any running water has long ago been buried below with pipes. The Boy Scout meeting house in the park has been around since 1935. The Recreation Center building was opened in 1957. There is one ball field currently used for softball and some tennis courts. There is a small concrete track on the perimeter. Seems like I remember seeing a small picnic pavilion. I have lots of memories from my youth at this park. I practiced for peewee football here. I slid down the hill beyond the outfield fence on cardboard. The Boy Scouts had our carved racers events here (Pine Wood Derby?). I took a pottery class and an air rifle safety class at the Recreation Center. The Recreation Center was the site for high school teen dances on Saturdays. Many of the same activities I participated in here are still happening. The Recreation Center has a full calendar of art classes. Lots of people walk or run the exercise trail through the park. Sports are still played. Picnics are still done. Maybe the Boy Scouts still meet in their building. The earliest of Tallahasseeans walked through here and I suspect that will continue to happen for a long time to come.

Business is over. Let the fun begin. If you have a friend…read morenamed Jasper, in Tallahassee, you're going fishing! The only spot he'll let me give away is in this park. I can tell you it's almost 900 acres large and they've groomed over 20 miles for trails. You'll have to find the sweet spot where the fishes are biting on your own. This is evidently a big equestrian hang. It just gets better and better. We don't ride but we sure love to visit! We took a couple of hikes here. With the existing canopy comes shade and comfortable strolls. We normally struggle to breathe in Fla. but with that shade and plenty of water (plus it's fall), we had no trouble at all. Cyclists and joggers have designated paths. They're dog friendly. They have restrooms at the trailheads and best off all....it's free! I would count on seeing us again. 11/24

It is not a very big park, spanning about 1 acre. Originally the park was named DuVal Park, but as part of the 1938 renaming, the DuVal name was dropped and it was renamed Cherokee Park. The only sign designating the park is a small bronze maker in the ground that can be easily missed. This park has a paved walkway that runs right down the middle of it and walkway has a round area in the middle of it that encircles a tree and some flowers. There is not many, if any seating options here. The landscaping, trees, flowers and plant here are amazing. It is very picturesque and because of its wide open space, it is very suitable for special events. This park's main value is it being a chill spot. It does not have much to offer outside of its nature views and paved walkway. This park does provide visitors a nice place to just sit back and relax. Being that this park is part of a chain of parks, you can bounce back and forward between parks, which is nice. You visit whatever park depending on your needs are at the time.

This is a thin pocket park that is located along a series of pocket parks that run along Park…read moreAvenue. There is metered street parking along the sides of the park and also within a reasonable walking distance. This park is home to one of Tallahassee's largest dog parks. The p[arks namesake was the person charged with doing the landscaping on the chain of parks that this park is located. It has a long history, being around for over 85 years. The park is not very well maintained and seemed to be a hangout for for local urban campers. The park has a brick paved walkway that goes down the center of it. You will also find a few metal square picnic tables and a pavilion with nothing under it. Just off of the dog park, is a paved circular area with benches along its outside perimeter. This is a nice hang out spot, if you are in the area and have no other place to go. I do not see much value outside of that and it is definitely not a destination spot.
