I wanted to look for a new walking trail and I found this really cool park in San Jose! It has a gorgeous view from the top of the hills with benches for rest spots too. It took me a while to walk up the steep hills but the view was so worth it. If you're looking for something a tad difficult, this is the spot to go to! I do recommend wearing old tennis shoes though, because your shoes are going to get so dirty and dusty after the hike!

Love this little hill! Best time to visit is sunset. It's not mission peak but you get a good workout and then get to see some amazing sky colors.

Pretty sure any past x country participant would roll their eyes when hearing the name of this park, as it was used for x country for schools in the area. It has steep inclines, declines and scenic, curvy roots that test endurance. I mostly visit Montgomery because of the hill, a steep incline that gets the heart going then it's a mostly flat trail where you can take a view of Evergreen and it's rolling hills. It's pretty quiet and primarily with dead grass and trees. It's not very crowded either. There is no bathroom available along the trails, but parking is free at the lot at the base of the hill or if you park in the residential area. And you probably should only hike around here in the day time as lighting here isn't the best towards the end of the day. Great park to get your body moving,to get some fresh air and to soak in the great views of Evergreen.

At the top of the hill!

I used to ALWAYS come chill at Montgomery Hill during my high school days (very long ago, haha). Went to re-visit this hill with a friend last night. It is still the same as I remembered. We watched the sunset and I must say, you can get a good view of the stars! Montgomery Hill gets pretty dark at night because there are no lights along the trail. So please, be careful and bring a flashlight! VERY peaceful. Great place for a walk/run. It is a very short trail to get to the top of Montgomery Hill. There are a couple benches and podiums with historic stories about Montgomery Hill. NOTE: I am only familiar with one entrance, which is found from Evergreen Valley College. Because the entrance is led from the EVC parking lot, I am not sure if you have to pay for a day-pass parking.

I've come here before and after Covid. I came to college here fresh out of high school so I've always known about the bill but didn't appreciate it enough when I attended college. Now, it's a favorite place of mine to run! A super killer Hill and great running path! This offered great views and isn't crowded during the week. Best to come when it's cooler since there isn't much shade. I bring my dog here although she can only handle a lap before the squirrels and gophers start to distract here so be aware of that! Kids smaller than 6 might get tired easily but it is a great trail for kids to explore and see

Beautiful park. Nice location. Plenty of shade. Lots of people because of the convenient location. Many dogs, runners, kids, people flying drones, etc. Hikes are perfect for beginners or if you want a laid back, quick hike.

Rolling hills and a dirt trail. Great place for a hike!

What an awesome place to hike (at least on a weekend that is). Not a lot of people, but enough, so that it wasn't superrrrr scary being there by yourself, there was plenty of parking, and the hills vary at a good rhythm. The park is located in the back of Evergreen College and it's very spacious. The trails are pretty clearly marked too, which is helpful! Take heed though, there's no shade, so make sure you bring a hat. When I was there, there were people walking dogs, running, and walking, so it's all fair game. Enjoy! This is a great hike that won't take up your entire morning and/or afternoon.

***************** 1589 **************** It's only been 2 weeks since I started hiking at Mission Peak and I couldn't stop it. Montgomery Hills is my 4 trails that I hike these past 2 weeks. It's definitely easier than Mission Peak, Uvas Canyon and Sierra Vista Open Space Reserve, but it's a perfect spot for beginners and even those that want to train for endurance. The hills are good, dirt and all but fairly maintain. The hardest party was the uphill at the start from the Evergreen College parking lot for the first 10-15 minutes, after that it's quite easy run. I did 4 rounds this morning and my fat was crying. It's a Saturday morning on the Labor's Day weekend and a lot of workout and crossfit group were out here training. That's definitely motivated me. It's safe to see other people jog or hike here. I jogged 3/4 of my way it was that easy of a trail. You will see the view of Evergreen, nothing spectacular but it's still a good sight atop. It's a great spot to train for your 5K, 10K run. It's definitely a regular routine spot for my training. It has a few shades so hat is definitely a must. No water nor restroom in this trails. Bring enough water and stay hydrate. Happy hiking and running. StayFit is a lifestyle. StayFit is a personal choice. Sweat is my fat crying! P.S. Free parking till Sept 12, 2016!

Berry Creek Falls is absolutely stunning! If you're coming to Big Basin Redwoods State Park and…read moreyou've never hiked to the falls, you MUST do it. Don't come all the way out here and miss out on this gorgeous waterfall. We did an 8 mile out and back hike to the falls via the Skyline to Sea Trail. The hike is moderate and begins on a downhill slope into the forest. Going down is always the easiest part for me, especially when a trail starts off descending. The real challenge is going back up once you reach the falls. It's nothing too strenuous but I'd definitely bring plenty of water and bug spray because there are lots of bugs on the trail. The trail itself is mostly shaded and features an abundance of beautiful redwoods, vibrantly green foliage, and scenic viewpoints. The waterfall is definitely the highlight of the hike! The falls were still flourishing in mid-July which worked out for us because we were able to take full advantage of the scene. When you make it up to the falls, there's a small deck area with two benches where you can sit and enjoy the picturesque views of the falls. Surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday afternoon in mid July. You may have to wait your turn to take a picture next to the falls. People were really courteous and didn't spend too much time which allowed for others to capture the moment. Bring your lunch and take a break here before continuing on your hike back. The scenery is so amazing here. Definitely recommend a hike to Berry Creek Falls is you're visiting Big Basin Redwood State Park.

AMAZING PLACE…read more Beautiful views and scenery. We did the Redwood Trail to the Skyline to the Sea to the Berry Creek Falls to the Sunset back to the parking lot. There are so many beautiful waterfalls along the trail. Some parts of the trail near the falls are muddy so wear good hiking shoes Note: This is a long trail (11 miles). Pack water and lunch and stay on the trail. You pay for parking with the rangers (10$ cash or card). Bathrooms at the park entrance are nice!

Rock the Block Alum…read moreRock Park is what many, myself included, consider to be *the* crown jewel of CSJ parks, and it's easy to see why. From the vast 730-acres of green space includes thirteen miles of trails that run the gamet of flat sojourns, to steep hikes to Eagle Rock. It's also California's oldest Muni park (1872) but has always served as land since 1777 when the Pueblo was established. The Good: *Variety of trails, as mentioned above, and they're mostly shaded. *Lots of history here as there's remnants of an old train trestle that used to run visitors up to a health spa of sorts. There's still remnants of the spa as you can see--and smell thanks to the sulfur springs. *Trails also connect to adjoining Sierra Vista OSP, and is part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. *Sand volleyball courts *Playground *Reservable and non-reservable picnic tables *Restrooms *Six miles of Horse trails *Three miles of Bikes trails *Home to the YSi (Youth Science Institute), which I highly recommend to parents. They have a bunch of summer camps that are great ways to get kids to love nature. The Meh: *No dogs allowed *Lots of poison oak *Parking costs $6 *Cell service is spotty, at best. The Ugly: *Budget cuts, budget cuts, budget cuts... Thanks to the lack of caring by our leaders for our parks, this place is not as great as it once was. As there's several entrances that have been closed off for nearly thirty years! *I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. As the (unofficial) Mr San José I find it very shameful and shall self-flagellate immediately. Conclusion: Not as great as it used to be, but still pretty damn amazing.

Went on early foggy morning hike. Hiked to Inspiration Point and then to Eagle Rock…read more It was a cold morning but much more enjoyable than the Summer heat. The trail to Inspiration Point had gradual climb that's not too long. Lush greens all around. Encountered a group of deer. Ground was not too soft so it was not too slippery or difficult that I felt comfortable with just trail runners on. Restroom at the start of the trail but none for at least another 5 miles. There were buildings that looked like restroom but were closed. Multiple parking lots at the main entrance to a few more inside the park. The trail to Eagle Rock had longer climb but not too bad. Nice view all around.

A very very intense hike up with a lot of stairs lol…read more My legs were sore for a week after. After you get to the first temple with all the white buddha statues, there is a bit of an uphill hike that can get pretty slipper if you don't have the right footwear. I was seeing seniors ascend with ease and feeling pretty weak ngl lol It is an extremely well maintained and beautiful trek up, super serene full of views and lots of positive energy. They have bathrooms once you get to the statue part. We saw deer and they have a lot of pretty blossoming trees and bamboo, definitely a workout so just be prepared to ascend a lot!

I haven't been here for over 6 yrs. Prior to the pandemic i visited this place with my family. I…read moreremembered it to be very beautiful and it was nice that they shuttle us in. However, I revisited on a recent weekday which is less crowded which is great but I feel like I wasn't able to go inside the building. I feel like all the buildings are all closed but it defeats the purpose of visiting a sacred place and you can do indoor meditations. I overhead the worker saying only if they are part of the group, which I feel like it's giving some sort of bias vibes that I don't feel it reflects the many religions that circles the place. I feel like to be able to hike this really steeped steps require a level of endurance and it's tough the first time. I don't think that older people or people with injuries can hike without difficulties. I feel like it has a lot going on the more I go around the area. It has Buddhists statues that are really big and it stands nicely. But, if you go down towards the left you see Christian figures sparse and it's randomly placed. It has saints but no Jesus but 3 crosses across from a small shrine. Even for someone like me who has ADHD I feel like it was just disorganized and I'm not sure what to think. Also, when you look closer to the top of the steps you go towards the left and it speaks about Vietnamese people. It was too much for me to really understand what the builder was doing, maybe way too much and not a deeper understanding about the human race, his race and different religions. It didn't have anything about Muslims which if you want to be honest it excludes that religion. So, I don't know the intent about the builder and the reason behind any of the randomness and placement of spiritual elements and non spiritual elements with one ethnic group. Besides that, the place sits on a humongous acres about 360 acres of land. Which is vastly large but it sits on a hillside. The view is nice and it overlooks the golf course. But, other than that I don't really feel you can do much except hike and watch others hike and go down quickly.
