if you know YOU KNOW. i still have nightmares about this park. dusty, hot, hilly to the max! you'll get some days where it's above 90° and this course does a great job making it feel above 100°. drastic uphills followed my STEEP downhills, not the long and gradual hills hype of xc course. one flat back section that's 0.7 miles but otherwise ur in for a treat! bees on occasions and lack of shade. besides that, i miss this course sm now that im graduated. its tough! not for the faint of heart, but no doubt truly rewarding by the end of it all! for reference, my 5k is a 20:18 but my time for the 2.74 mile course is a 19:18. my second mile is ALWAYS 45-60secs slower than my 1st/3rd mile. that should tell u something read more

Great local place for leisurely hiking. It's sort of like a figure 8 trail on the backside of Evergreen Community College. But don't be fooled... there's a monster hill to climb if you want something a little tougher. It's about 0.125 miles up from the tree at the bottom to the first lookout point at the top. In other words, 1 miles after 4 up and downs. Probably 0.75 miles if you walk the loops. It can be busy on Saturdays but Sunday mornings are chill. read more

This is such a great spot for hiking and taking in beautiful views (trust me, it's SO worth it). Honestly, it could just be an evening walk. It's not hard. There's plenty of parking, and you'll find places to sit and enjoy the scenery or take a break. It can get pretty windy, so dress accordingly. Best part--they're dog-friendly! I wanted to look for a new walking trail and I found this really cool park in San Jose! It has a gorgeous view from the top of the hills with benches for rest spots too. It took me a while to walk up the steep hills but the view was so worth it. If you're looking for something a tad difficult, this is the spot to go to! I do recommend wearing old tennis shoes though, because your shoes are going to get so dirty and dusty after the hike! read more

I've come here before and after Covid. I came to college here fresh out of high school so I've always known about the bill but didn't appreciate it enough when I attended college. Now, it's a favorite place of mine to run! A super killer Hill and great running path! This offered great views and isn't crowded during the week. Best to come when it's cooler since there isn't much shade. I bring my dog here although she can only handle a lap before the squirrels and gophers start to distract here so be aware of that! Kids smaller than 6 might get tired easily but it is a great trail for kids to explore and see read more

Pretty sure any past x country participant would roll their eyes when hearing the name of this park, as it was used for x country for schools in the area. It has steep inclines, declines and scenic, curvy roots that test endurance. I mostly visit Montgomery because of the hill, a steep incline that gets the heart going then it's a mostly flat trail where you can take a view of Evergreen and it's rolling hills. It's pretty quiet and primarily with dead grass and trees. It's not very crowded either. There is no bathroom available along the trails, but parking is free at the lot at the base of the hill or if you park in the residential area. And you probably should only hike around here in the day time as lighting here isn't the best towards the end of the day. Great park to get your body moving,to get some fresh air and to soak in the great views of Evergreen. read more

I used to ALWAYS come chill at Montgomery Hill during my high school days (very long ago, haha). Went to re-visit this hill with a friend last night. It is still the same as I remembered. We watched the sunset and I must say, you can get a good view of the stars! Montgomery Hill gets pretty dark at night because there are no lights along the trail. So please, be careful and bring a flashlight! VERY peaceful. Great place for a walk/run. It is a very short trail to get to the top of Montgomery Hill. There are a couple benches and podiums with historic stories about Montgomery Hill. NOTE: I am only familiar with one entrance, which is found from Evergreen Valley College. Because the entrance is led from the EVC parking lot, I am not sure if you have to pay for a day-pass parking. read more

This has been my go-to place to hike, walk and jog for a few months now. I start at the trail at the small park on Silver Creek and Yerba Buena behind the fire station and go all the way up to Montgomery Hill, climb up the giant hill and back down again. This is 5 miles of hills and a great heart pumping workout. It's never busy and very safe. You could also park at Evergreen Valley College in their 60 minute parking spots at the bus circle and just do rounds of the hill. No public bathrooms or water fountains. Dogs are allowed. Great views of downtown on a clear day! read more

What an awesome place to hike (at least on a weekend that is). Not a lot of people, but enough, so that it wasn't superrrrr scary being there by yourself, there was plenty of parking, and the hills vary at a good rhythm. The park is located in the back of Evergreen College and it's very spacious. The trails are pretty clearly marked too, which is helpful! Take heed though, there's no shade, so make sure you bring a hat. When I was there, there were people walking dogs, running, and walking, so it's all fair game. Enjoy! This is a great hike that won't take up your entire morning and/or afternoon. read more

I was meeting up the roommate's family while they were taking pix of the kids in Montgomery Hill Park on Friday, August 5th around 5:30pm. Thinking it would be easy to find them, I followed Google maps and drove to where it told me to go. Unfortunately, I was directed to some residential area. After reading some reviews, I pieced together the parking lot was by Evergreen Valley College. Decided to head there, and voila! I found their cars on the side of Yerba Buena Road after I made a right from Falls Creek Drive. Lesson here? Drop a pin or tell people where you wanna meet up cuz Montgomery Hill Park is huge! There's an entrance right there on Yerba Buena, so I decided to follow the path hoping I would just find them. This path ended up being steep, so don't wear flats like I did. It also gets really dusty as it's a dirt path. But once you get up to the top, there's a bench with a tree and gorgeous views! I didn't really have time to take them in as we were all trying to rally one kid, two toddlers, and two babies together for pictures, but it's worth the trek up the hill. I adore views! It wasn't until later, I realized I hadn't taken any pix and was a little bummed. Maybe next time I'm in SJ, I'll explore the park again. If other parts of the park are as pretty, I wouldn't mind hiking up a hill again. read more

***************** 1589 **************** It's only been 2 weeks since I started hiking at Mission Peak and I couldn't stop it. Montgomery Hills is my 4 trails that I hike these past 2 weeks. It's definitely easier than Mission Peak, Uvas Canyon and Sierra Vista Open Space Reserve, but it's a perfect spot for beginners and even those that want to train for endurance. The hills are good, dirt and all but fairly maintain. The hardest party was the uphill at the start from the Evergreen College parking lot for the first 10-15 minutes, after that it's quite easy run. I did 4 rounds this morning and my fat was crying. It's a Saturday morning on the Labor's Day weekend and a lot of workout and crossfit group were out here training. That's definitely motivated me. It's safe to see other people jog or hike here. I jogged 3/4 of my way it was that easy of a trail. You will see the view of Evergreen, nothing spectacular but it's still a good sight atop. It's a great spot to train for your 5K, 10K run. It's definitely a regular routine spot for my training. It has a few shades so hat is definitely a must. No water nor restroom in this trails. Gorgeous park with lots of random trails. No cover at all so bring a hat on sun y days. If you're looking to do your hill intervals, this is the place. There's plenty of smaller hills that give you a nice workout, but the main one is a giant steep one with a ridiculous incline. Fitbit tracked it as 15 flights of stairs for me just running/walking/crawling up it! Trails in the summer look dusty, but in the fall, after some rain, the green landscape is beautiful! read more

This park is located in the Evergreen hills east of Evergreen Valley College. There are over 50 acres of small hills and valleys with unpaved trails. It may look undeveloped, but it's a great place to walk/hike...many locals do their rounds at this hidden, serene getaway on a daily basis. This is the location in the Evergreen hills where aviation pioneer John Montgomery performed test flights of his monoplane glider in the early 1900s. When Alum Rock Park is closed due to fire danger, I would go here to mountain bike. It's like a mini-training course with a few steep uphills that don't last that long. Parking is free at the end parking lot in back of EVC. read more

I didn't realize this place even existed until recently and was excited to visit. Now note, it's no Mission Peak but it is a workout. There are dirt trails that wind around the hill and intersect each other. It's a great hike for novices. Also it's not all uphill, as one must go down to get up. Difficulty level: 3/5 Great hills to hike, run, walk, jog, and walk your dogs. The trail is short,but there is one steep incline of about 0.15 miles. There are multiple trails, but they are not long. I think the longest one from Evergreen Valley College EVC to residential area is about 2 miles max. If you start at EVC and loop back to EVC, the trail tops 3.5 miles. I love the tranquility and view from above. Not the GREATEST view, but worth checking out if you live nearby or go to EVC. read more

Located behind Evergreen Valley College, this park offers wonderful views of the Santa Clara Valley. It consists of unpaved intersecting trails which extend from Evergreen Creek/Falls Creek Road to Yerba Buena Road. The trails are well maintained and great for hiking/walking or mountain biking. There is very little shade, so on a hot day it would be better to go in the evening or early morning. Parking in the college lot could be a challenge as it gets very full, plus you have to pay except on Sunday. I usually park on one of the side streets in the adjacent neighborhood. read more

Way better than expected park, bigger and nicer. I like to visit every single park in San Jose and i can't believe there are so many! This was amazingly beautiful, all yellowish, ups and downs, perfect for a hike, to train for something big. Did not see any mountain bike but I think is a perfect place for that activity. As a matter of fact, I was surprised it was a Sunday and there was no one there! (only a few families with dogs far away and the occasional runner). I had this feeling of conquering the world there, with awesome vistas of San Jose downtown and various neighborhoods. It is very pleasant to the eyes, the houses you see surrounding the park look gorgeous (seems an affluent area), plus the view from above of the water fountains of the Evergreen College plus the astronomy observatory are awesome too. Great workout in a fantastic location with privileged views. I would not go in a very hot day as there are just a few trees, no shade at all. I parked (for free) at the college, but i guess the rest of the week you either pay there or park in streets nearby. read more

Most native South Bay-ers have never been here (it's okay - more fresh air for me). Tucked away in the Evergreen foothills, Montgomery "Hill" Park is an understatement; that hill is more like a mountain when you're jogging up it in 90 degree heat. I love it here though. Have some pent-up energy? Climb the hill. Sad? Climb the hill. Need a [better] workout? Climb the hill. Want one of the best views of the Yay Area? Climb the hill. The negatives: No lights (so no early or late hikes), there's no public restroom (unless the college is in session), no free parking, and there's a slim chance you'll run into a mountain lion (yikes!). Even with the minuses, I always leave feeling more fit, happy, and calm than when I arrived. How many places can you say that about? Just climb the hill. read more

I like this place. Nice views to walk or jog. I can't bring my dog here, the one time I did, she brought back a tick. Luckily she has fine fur so that it's easy to spot. The few times I have been here I've seen a lot of morning walkers, mostly older adults, at a slower pace walk, so please be kind and go around or stop, don't hurdle into them! It does get muddy in some areas and there are some little dirt holes... I don't even think it's gopher holes, so watch your steps, especially if you'r clumsy like me! I haven't used my running app here yet to gauge my distance, but I'd like to come here if there's errands to be done near here. Mainly when my sister is getting her nails done with a friend so I'll have at least an hour here to myself. read more

This park is walking distance from my parents house and I used to run up and down the hills when I do hill training. This isn't my favorite place to run at because it's fairly small park. I would come here only if it's last minute and don't want to drive. It's nice to walk to and enjoy the view of San Jose. They used to have a swing hooked up in a tree. Running? Hate it. Running up hills? LOATHE it. But if I were to do it, I guess this place isn't too shabby. Clean location, nice clear trails. Different levels of rolling hills to work with. A gigantic, imposing hill if you're brave. Personally, I like running the opposite direction then down the huge hill. This way, I gradually go uphill then can cool off on the monster hill. One of my favorite running places. It's right next to Evergreen valley college. So you will have to pay for parking. The beginning of the hill is very steep and a great workout. In cross country during high school, we would call it the "beast". The view from the top is excellent. I can see my house and all the way to downtown SJ from there. This park is located right behind evergreen valley college. Most of the trails lead you up hills, this park is a good place for a mini hike. Dogs are allowed on leash. my dog loves to try and get the ground squirrels, and there are a lot of them. The only time this park is green is in the winter. There is very little shade, offered by a few trees at the top of the hills. Some nice views can be seen from the top as well. read more

Great park and it is near me so plus! You have to be careful about the wild life animals so I do not recommend that you go alone, unless it is in the morning when you see other walks and joggers. It has great views and I do hate saying this because then you will steal my idea, but this is a great spot to come and watch the fireworks on the 4th of July.
