This is one way to get past the Civil War memorial controversy - make your memorial about "all wars" as they have done with this one in Troy. The statue atop the memorial depicts a WWI soldier with his right arm raised and carrying a rifle in his left.
One the base, the four sides read "In memory of Montgomery County sons who served in the World War" and "In memory of Montgomery County women who did their part in all wars" and "In memory of Montgomery County sons who served in the Confederate States Army" and "In memory of Montgomery County sons who served in the Spanish American War."
The monument stands on the grounds of the Montgomery County courthouse. There is free street parking all around.
