The first preschool we tried was more like a daycare. The teachers did not have advanced education degrees and seemed burned out. My daughter was bored and often said she didn't want to go to school. With Vancouver Montessori you will immediately notice how the environment is so vibrant. The administrators are sharp and lovely. The teachers are extremely engaged with the children and extremely professional to work with. My daughter is smiling and happy now that I made a switch. She talks about her teacher and friends which she never did before. I especially like lunch hour which is set up with table cloths. They are being taught not only school subjects, but life skills such as structure and manners. A private education that is worth every bit of the tuition!

All three of my children have attended, and each one has excelled in all subjects: life skills, mathematics, reading, and fine motor skills. In addition, the teachers keep you very well informed about up coming concerts (three a year) and other events, how your child is performing and progressing, and resources for Love and Logic based parenting.

The team is always responsive to our requests and needs and always, always puts well well being of kids first. Teachers are valued, respected, and a collaborative part of the leadership team. And, it shows. They're comfortable bring up ideas or concerns, and are greeted with responsiveness. This is the cleanest childcare facility I've ever seen in my life. This is also the only place that I trust my child to go during the pandemic. they already cleaned and sanitized more than any place I've ever seen. Now that's even amplified. Not only does the whole staff love my little boy, and he loves them... Not only have they helped him grow socially and emotionally... Not only does he love going to school everyday... Not only is it's a collaborative team where teachers are actually valued, respected, and listened to... But. I will never forget the night my mother-in-law passed suddenly. Because of the team's responsiveness, I never worried about if I would be able to get ahold of him during a constantly changing situation. It's not only that. I actually felt comfort knowing that I could reach out to them at any point, get a response, and that response would be to fully support my child and my family in any way possible. With very little knowledge about the Montessori method, we took a chance and were fortunate to secure a spot for our little one. We couldn't be more pleased and grateful to have not one, but three children under Ms. Julie and Ms. Liz's care. For the past almost six years as APPM parents, it never ceases to amaze me when I ponder how all three of our very different children have blossomed from their time with Ms. Julie and Ms. Liz. I appreciate that the classroom setup, both inside and outdoors, provides many opportunities for the children to develop independence and confidence. They learn to dress themselves, develop vocabulary, tend to the garden and care for a class pet--just to name some examples. Not only have our children learned so much, but so have we. Ms. Julie and Ms. Liz have been models of compassion and nurturing for us. Their parent education sessions have been so helpful and informative. They have led us in learning about the development of our children and how to feed their need for learning and connection by showing us ways to include our children in daily tasks. We really felt they knew our daughter very well. It's a very gentle and enriching environment and is quite remarkable that a room full of toddlers could feel so calm and peaceful. The focus on developing practical life skills through choice fostered a lot of independence in our child. There is a lovely outdoors area for exploring nature and they learned a lot about gardening. Ms. Julie is extremely knowledgeable and communicates well with parents, I learned a lot from her myself. My daughter is aging out otherwise we would be back next year for sure. I can't say enough good things about this school and recommend it to all parents of toddlers.

Everyday it was like I was walking him to prison (and he had been in daycares his whole little life, so it was not just separation anxiety). I observed, spied, discussed with his teacher and administrator with no results. Finally I took a chance and moved him to CMS. His first day showed a change in our lives immediately - he was happy and eager to see his new friends (and he did not want to go back)! This year is his "leadership year" as a kindergartener, and I could not be more thankful with how self-confident and joyful he has grown. Here's the info I wish I had when choosing a preschool…read more While I was dazzled at our tour with some lesson plans that incorporate learning about different cultures, the plans were overshadowed by antiquated teaching and classroom management methods--at best--and shocking lack of developmentally approapropriate strategies, at worst. As an educator, I can tell you with certainty that to call this preschool "montessori" is beyond misleading. The teachers are not montessori teachers. There is some opportunity for choice upon arrival, but that's about it. Not a dealbreaker for me, personally, but something to note. My 3, almost 4 year old, spent a lot of time doing worksheets on his own. We moved to a different preschool after a month and the differences were stark. Little Stars offered no intentional support for student social development. The kids didn't even introduce themselves by name in the first weeks, let alone receive guidane on how to initiate play with others. After 3 weeks at Little Stars, our son knew the name of only ONE student--and it's because that student got in trouble a lot (more on that in a minute). After his very first day at a new school, he was excited to talk about the FIVE students he played with, by name, and relay the ways the teachers taught the kids about community and friendship. At Little Stars, our son continued to come home without much to say. He knew we were excited about starting school. He didn't want to disappoint us. His teachers always commented that she wished the other kids were more like our kid...but whatever messages he was getting, were not positive ones... After a few weeks, he started to talk about the "bad kids"--despite the fact that we've distinguished bad kids from bad choices since the day he was born. I asked why he thought they were bad and he said it is because the teachers write their name on the board and then put lots of frowny faces next to them. (Is this 1975?!?!) I called Little Stars to ask for more context so I could navigate the nightly conversations. I certainly didn't feel better when they assured me they were only publicly shaming 3 of the preschoolers in the class. Apparently, this was a communication plan with families to manage behaviors...Any professional who works with this age group should understand that these methods are proven to be ineffective and even do more harm than good. His teacher was generally sour most days and there is a handful of other disappointments that will only make this longer. In summary, Little Stars is absolutely NOT a place we could keep our child since the goal was a warm environment to develop curiosity, community and love of learning. We've been delighted by two other preschools for my son and daughter where every day is full of learning, but also joy, community, curiosity, physicaly play, nurturing educators, social-emotional development, and nature. You've got to wonder how a place with a decade in business has so few reviews. Wish I had given more weight to that.
