    Beach is pebble mostly

We stayed in Monterosso for 2 nights and really loved the town. We had some rain while visiting, but one day it was actually nice enough to go to the beach. We headed down in the afternoon to figure out where the free beach was. Most of the beach covered by multi-colored umbrellas are all private bagnos you can pay to enjoy for the day. The free beach is closest to the parking lot and train station and you can enjoy the beach for free, but if you want a chair you'll still need to pay for it. The ocean and water are warm and pleasant. The beach itself is very rocky and I wish I'd had watery shoes with me. The sun was beautiful, though, and we definitely enjoyed swimming and laying out for a bit. There are plenty of places to eat just up on the boardwalk, and as mentioned, it's conveniently close to the parking lot and train station if you're just coming here for the day

Coming from Florida, beach is not necessarily on our bucket list, but we did take a stroll on a way to Vernazza hiking trail. Since it was still early in a season (May of 2024), there was no visitors, but chairs and umbrellas were all there ready for the season. The beach itself is very small (considering we are coming from hundreds of miles of unblocked view of white sand and turquoise water), but we were told it is the best one there is within this UNESCO protected area of 5 villages. We loved the view now when it's quiet and calm and it's non overcrowded with tourists, honestly wouldn't be my choose in the season.

This woman works for the umbrella companies and will do everything to block your access to the ocean even though it is illegal to do so.

Visitors be aware that it is illegal for the umbrella companies to block access to the ocean water. They will try to block you and say that the beach is private. Do not believe them and call the police if they do.

Monterosso Beach isn't your typical beach. This small patch of sand in Monterosso al Mare is the only sandy beach along Cinque Terre's coastline. If you are facing the turquoise blue sea you will find gorgeous rock formations to your left and Il Gigante (the statue of Neptune) to your right. Monterosso's old and new town are just footsteps away from the beach. I couldn't see myself sunbathing on this beach since the sand is so rocky and the beach isn't very private, but we did enjoy walking along this rustic beach. We had the beach mostly to ourselves in April since the weather was cooler, but this beach gets packed with tourists in the summer.

Monterosso is the only one of the five towns that arguably has a proper beach and it is a huge one (at least in the old part of Town). Actually, there's a "pay" side where you can hire one of the many sun lounges and parasols, as well as a small changing hut and a shower. Then there's the free beach on the other side of the white fence divider. That's nice too, but without the extras or anything to come between you and the deep blue sea. There also appears to be a nice beach right in front of the Train Station on the new side of Town.

Nice beach right in front of You when You leave the trainstation. Views are great. Why just 4 stars? Because in the main season it is completely overrun. Trainloads every 20-30 minutes make the place look like a bunch of ants. Come here before 10 o'clock.

There's so much to do in Cinque Terre. There are several beaches there but the best one Is Monterosso. It's right off the train station and a short walk down. There's plenty of places to grab a snack, cappuccino, buy souvenirs too. If you wanted to pay to use the beach chairs, showers, or changing rooms, there is a little bit of a fee. It's good if you want to stay in the shade when it gets really hot. Otherwise there's plenty of areas where you can relax. There's the open beach area to the side, not too big though but plenty of room. Also there's the large rock area. We hung out there, put a towel down and got some sun. It's one of the nicer beaches but a little rocky. There's also great views of the mountainside town. We would definitely go back.

Take your shoes off. Feel the sand and ocean beneath your toes. Breathe deeply, cherish every moment. There are dozens of little shops and restaurants along the beach. One of the more quiet beaches in the area. Very clean and free from debris. Save room on your camera to take as many pictures as possible, I guarantee this view is hard to find elsewhere.

After the disappointing pebble beaches in the south of France, Monterosso provided a nice change in scenery with its beautiful long sandy shoreline! The largest walkable coastline of the Cinque Terre, Monterosso is divided into two parts - the western part where the train station is, and the eastern part called "Alto Monterosso," where the ferry dock is. You can rent kayaks and paddleboards all along both parts of Monterosso, but the slide pedal boats are only in Alto Monterosso. I highly recommend seeing the Cinque Terre by boat if you are comfortable on the water. We kayaked from here to Vernazza one afternoon and then rented a pedal/slide boat the next day to play around and have a picnic on. They don't offer up life jackets for any water activities (though I think they have them if you desire them) and they don't have lifeguards like we do in the states, so you are mostly at your own risk. Fortunately the Mediterranean is pretty calm so there's nothing to be afraid of. Well, except that there are jellyfish! Very cool!

Before writing a negative review I usually offer the establishment a second chance. Well, I gave Bagno Fegina a second, third and fourth chance and they consistently disappointed me. Let me be clear, Monterosso al Mare is remarkable. Offering one of the most spectacular beaches in Cinque Terre, the location alone should award this bar and beach club 5 stars. However, terrible customer service, inconsistent pricing and inaccurate hours of closure make for a frustrating day at the beach. Why would I return? It's SUCH AN AMAZING LOCATION! Here's what you need to do to enjoy a perfect day at the beach. Make sure you arrive with a friend. On several occasions I was charged for two chaise lounges and umbrellas, even though I only needed one. How unfair is that? Arrive as early as you can because the beach fills up quickly on summer days. The seats closest to the beach are highly sought after, but they aren't any more expensive. So you'll pay the same even if you're seated next to the restrooms in the back. Finally, be sure you ask what time they will be closing. If you are visiting the beach in the fringe season (Early and late days of summer) they might just start packing things up if there are too few people! Renting beach chairs is really expensive in Italy, and cutting your time short by 1-2 hours is inexcusable. Once you're seated, enjoy the sunshine and beautiful view of the Ligurian Sea. And don't forget your sunscreen.
