Hard to miss this beautiful building near downtown Bentonville with a historical marker out front…read more The marker reads, "Built in 1890 by Captain NH Henry. Captain Henry served in the Civil War as a member of General Stonewall Jackson's artillery. After the war Henry moved to Bentonville where he helped build Bentonville's first steam railway and served as a Treasurer for Benton County. The Henry House is built in the Italianate style and the main façade has been unaltered since construction. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988." It is a two-story brick structure with Italianate architectural details like trusses in the front-facing gable, a scrollwork balustrade on the main porch, and scrolled brackets on the hood over a side entrance. This 1890 construction is a good example of the late Italianate style brick homes that were constructed in Bentonville in large quantities between 1870 and 1895. Located in downtown Bentonville, the museum takes you through Walmart's history and the story of founder Sam Walton. One of the coolest parts is seeing a recreation/preservation of Sam Walton's office, filled with the everyday items and paperwork that make it feel like you've stepped back in time. There are plenty of nostalgic displays throughout the museum, including old Walmart merchandise, advertising, household products from decades past, VHS tapes and electronics. I especially enjoyed seeing the old Walmart pickup truck and all the little pieces of retail history that show how much shopping has changed over the years. The museum does a nice job of combining Walmart history, American retail nostalgia, and interactive exhibits. There's also a gift-shop area with Walmart-themed souvenirs and retro-style merchandise. If you're visiting Bentonville, this is definitely an interesting stop to add to your itinerary, especially if you enjoy American history, business history, or nostalgic memorabilia.

They have a good selection of movies and audio books which I enjoy. I also like the free community events like the recent Mother's Day craft and the Lunch and Learn talks. They have teen movie nights and art club and plant exchanges for adults that we have attended. I do wish they had a bigger selection of new releases and audiobooks though. And a lot of the computers, especially in the kids area, are broken. Tip: if you have a Fayetteville library card you can check out books here!

This fancy marker just off the Bentonville Square harkens back to the days of the Civil War, which…read moresurprisingly came this far west. No I-40 back in those days. Not even a paved road. Can you imagine? Now the Massey Hotel (though not actually a hotel today), the building is listed on the Register of Historic Places. The marker denotes this little tidbit of Arkansas history: Prior to the construction of the Massey Hotel, the ca. 1840 wood-frame Eagle Hotel was located on this site. Union General Franz Sigel and some of his men were staying at the Eagle Hotel and had just ordered breakfast on March 6, 1862, when staff reported that the Confederate Army was approaching town. Sigel had to leave his meal unfinished. The armies met the following day at the Battle of Pea Ridge. General Sigel returned to Bentonville about 25 years later and remarked that he had come back to finish his breakfast.

What a fantastic little gem of a museum in historic downtown Roger's, AR. I learned Daisy Airguns…read moreonce manufactured precision windmills under another business name in Michigan. However, an enterprising employee invented a little pneumatic BB gun that used a cocking lever as its rear sight. When a fellow employee tried it out, he said "WOW! That's a Daisy!" The rest is history. I really enjoyed the self-paced audio museum tour. The businessmen of Daisy were very patriotic individuals and many of them participated in service to our great nation. The Daisy representative was a nice gentlemen who really knew his Daisy history and provided a wealth of knowledge. The admission is $2.50 and the gift shop has a little something for everybody.

The Daisy Airgun Museum in historic downtown Rogers turned out to be a really interesting stop on…read moreour Northwest Arkansas road trip. The museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Daisy Manufacturing and its famous BB guns, with the company's story stretching back more than 140 years. Inside, there is a surprising amount to see for a smaller museum. The displays take you through different eras of Daisy history with vintage BB guns, early models, old advertisements, photographs, catalogs, Red Ryder memorabilia, and some really unique pieces. I especially enjoyed seeing how the designs changed over the decades, along with the colorful 1920s and 1930s advertising and the impressive Daisy .50 caliber rifle exhibit. One of the coolest parts is outside the museum--the World's Largest Daisy BB Gun. The massive 25-foot-tall sculpture was installed in 2021 and makes for a great photo stop before or after visiting the museum. Overall, this was a fun and unexpected stop in Rogers. Even if you aren't a BB gun collector, there is plenty of American history, nostalgia, advertising, and craftsmanship to appreciate. The exhibits are well organized, there is a lot packed into the space, and it was interesting learning how Daisy became such an iconic American brand. Definitely worth checking out while exploring downtown Rogers.

Five hours here working and also enjoying the park. A playground, a large open area and plenty of space for walking are the highlights here.
