Beautiful tile and old world Turkish lamps illuminate these beautiful spaces. There is an exhilarating outdoor pool with beautiful mature olive trees to view. The indoor salt pool is still, dark and intriguing. In fact, if you float on your back and place your head in the warm water you can be swayed by the mystic music coming from underneath while you look at the stars above. Each pool has its own stirring characteristics and evokes a sense of calm. If you are looking for a relaxing spa day, highly recommend going during the weekdays so that you may fully enjoy the Therme.

Located just across the border from Sarreguemines, we enjoyed a lovely drive through Alsace and part of Lorraine in order to get there. Once arriving, we were happy to find that parking was ample and free in the adjacent lot! We paid for a four hour pass and towel rental before proceeding to check the place out. In addition to indoor and outdoor tubs of various temperatures and pH levels, there's also a very relaxing salty bath for floating in (featuring salt from the Dead Sea), saunas, steam rooms, and a restaurant. We spent our time hopping from one to the next and enjoying the various benefits of each thermal bath that morning. Compared to other places, this one is smaller, but it's also less crowded. It was a little more pricey, but that may be offset by the benefit of free parking. The only thing that neither of us could figure out was why the smoking area was right next to the outdoor pool, meaning that those enjoying the outdoor part of the facility had to smell cigarettes while in the water. We overall enjoyed ourselves and while were glad to check out a new place, we will probably stick to our old standby in the future since it's closer and we like it a bit better.

Friedrichsbad is 39 euro and had no time limit (recommended 3 hours, we skipped a few of the hotter saunas and the colder pools/plunge so were done in about 2.5 hours). Swimsuits are required on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On Sunday when we went, no swimsuits are allowed. The staff checking us in was informative, explaining the gradual warm up and cool down style of Roman-Irish baths. It was a calming and relaxing experience, our favorites were the hottest pool (room 9), the next cooler small whirlpool bath (room 10), and the coolest large whirlpool bath (room 11). By the time we left at 8:30pm, staffing was slimmer so we didn't get wrapped in hot towels to end our experience, but I still went into the relaxation room and got a warm towel on my own and it was a pleasant way to end the day.

What an experience. I've never done anything quite like this, and I'm eager to try it again…read more The baths do a nice job of combining luxury and the historical character of the original building and experience. You start off in a changing room, then move progressively though saunas, steam rooms, and thermal baths that get progressively warmer to raise your body temperature, then progressively cooler (culminating in a dunk in very cold water) to bring it back down. Along the way, you are scrubbed with a stiff brush to exfoliate your whole body. Some words to the wise. First, like many German baths, this is a coed nude bath, so be prepared for that. Second, it is not the same as the gentle pampering people may expect elsewhere. You're largely on your own in the baths, spas, and saunas, but the staff can be very businesslike as you move through the processes. Don't take it personally - they do a lot of turnover each day, and generally leave it to you to navigate the process - and you will leave feeling refreshed, relaxed, and invigorated!

This was an amazingly relaxing experience. I found them on line and emailed them for an…read moreappointment. They responded that night, in English, and confirmed an appointment for the following night. During my appointment time, I was literally the only client, which was wonderful. They are a small boutique spa place where they can only accept a very limited number of clients at a time. This means you really get to enjoy and relax during your experience instead of feeling rushed or being disturbed by others. I got the the package deal where I got a 30 minute soak in the jet pool with essential oil, then 60 minute full body massage with herbs and oil, and a 30 minute head and neck massage. I felt so relaxed and zen by the end of my treatment that I'm trying to plot out how long should I wait to do it again. They are located on the 3rd floor of an unassuming office building. There is an underground parking garage you can use or a few limited street side parking. If your appointment is after hours, you will need to be buzzed in. I comminuted via email with Claudia who speaks both English and German. I ended up calling them and Claudia verbally walked me through the process of how to get into the building. Matthias, the masseuse, welcomed me and both he and Claudia gave me a tour of the facility, which can accommodate a couple's retreat. As for the treatment, I first selected the herbs I wanted to use for my massage, then the oil for my bath, finally I selected the hot tea I would be sipping during my soak. You can go full nude or wear a swimsuit. I was somewhat unprepared and didn't bring a suit, which worked out better in the end. Matthias was super professional as he worked on all the little muscles. He first diagnosed my back at the beginning of the treatment and then worked on issues during the massage. It felt wonderful. I really LOVED my experience there and can't wait to make an appointment with them for the next time.
