And some observations as follows, - I'm not sure why this place has three €s. I think our group paid 5€ for a evening's worth of swimming. That's, pretty cheap for two slides, indoor/outdoor, dives and a hot pool. - Also they had a whole little bar. That's adorable, and I love places where you can swim and drink. That's a winning combination. - Pretty clean. I only saw one band-aid, and it wasn't floating in the pool. - Why don't they make water-slides for hot tubs? - The staff were friendly and helpful with our questions and general lack of German language skills. - Clean bathrooms. Clean changing rooms, and large blow-dryers in case you didn't bring a towel. - Pretty simple. Pay, swim, leave. - A place to camp and lay out in a well-kept grassy knoll. People had brought coolers, and there was a place for Frisbee and outdoor sports. Overall great. I'm certain I will be coming back.

The place is beautiful and well maintained. We went twice during our two weeks in Germany. We will go back. Lowest floor is different pools and bathing suits are required. The next two floors consist of several saunas and steam rooms, one pool and foot baths. Clothing is not allowed in the saunas and steam rooms. The eucalyptus sauna was my favorite, were were there during a special session, a staff member added eucalyptus water to the sauna, fanned hot steam towards us and beat our backs with eucalyptus leaves. Then everyone leaves the sauna and cold ice water is poured over you. Loved the experience.

Access to the hotel is easy and reception staff are friendly and quick. Rooms are reasonably spacious, clean and in good condition. The hotel, being on the edge of town, is quiet. A lift provides access to the various floors. A table in the restaurant is allocated to you, so for both breakfast and dinner (for those on half-board) you can go straight to your table without waiting to be seated. The quality of food served to those on half board is very good, with a soup, salad (from the extensive buffet), choice of mains and dessert. A once-weekly treat for meat lovers is the "grill evening" where the main course is replaced by a grill-buffet (of a very high standard). Service in the restaurant is quick (even on busy nights) and very friendly. Breakfast consists of an extensive buffet offering various cheeses and an array of cold meats (including fine Schwarzwälder Schinken, naturally), yoghurts, preserves, fruits juices and a wide selection of bread and rolls. The cafe (with terrace) offers coffee and cake from lunchtime onwards. Spa and sauna facilities are extensive and modern with a humorous Black Forest twist in the form of the "tree-house sauna". Further renovations of the reception and bar area are planned. Location-wise, the hotel sits at the top end of Tonbach, just up the valley from the Traube Tonbach. The area has extensive walking, hiking and cycling routes with extremely well marked paths and routes. The hotel also makes an excellent base for gourmets visiting the world famous restaurants of the town of Baiersbronn, in particular the "Schwarzwaldstube" which is only 100m away. In summary, this is an excellent family run hotel - ideal for a relaxing spa stay or for those seeking the exercise of walking / hiking / cycling or for gourmets.

Came here as part of our walking tour with Viking…read more Debated whether to spend a few hours at Friedrichsbad spa or Caracala spa as Baden-Baden is famous for their thermal spas. Twice a week, textiles are required. The other five days are only textile free and those days are co-ed textile free. We visited on a textile free day, so we went next door to Caracala to enjoy a spa day in our bathing suits. We also went under the building to view the archeological ruins of an ancient Roman thermal bath. The healing properties of the natural hot springs have been known for thousands of years. Interesting to get a glimpse into that history.

We chose the Friedrichsbad Roman-Irish baths over the Caracalla Spa as we prefer a peaceful and…read morecooler temp adult only environment (Caracalla allows children on the first floor where the cooler temperature baths are, mainly hot 90 degree Celsius saunas on the adult only 2nd floor). Friedrichsbad is 39 euro and had no time limit (recommended 3 hours, we skipped a few of the hotter saunas and the colder pools/plunge so were done in about 2.5 hours). Swimsuits are required on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On Sunday when we went, no swimsuits are allowed. The staff checking us in was informative, explaining the gradual warm up and cool down style of Roman-Irish baths. It was a calming and relaxing experience, our favorites were the hottest pool (room 9), the next cooler small whirlpool bath (room 10), and the coolest large whirlpool bath (room 11). By the time we left at 8:30pm, staffing was slimmer so we didn't get wrapped in hot towels to end our experience, but I still went into the relaxation room and got a warm towel on my own and it was a pleasant way to end the day.
