WHAT.
Monte Echia is a public park built atop a rocky cliff outcrop, known for its commanding views over the Porto (port) and Centro Storico (historic center) neighborhoods of Naples, with direct line of sight to Mount Vesuvius and parts of the Amalfi Coast including the island of Capri.
HOW.
Reachable by foot (though in a more roundabout fashion from the north), moped/motorcycle or car, if you arrive at the foot of the park to the south, the quick option is to take an elevator up. It's a steep cliffside and the ticket office and elevator shaft are built directly into the rock.
HOW AGAIN.
Tickets are €1.50 each way as of April 2026, purchased at a single manned window by cash or card for one-way or round trip. Around sunset there was a short line, it took about 10 minutes to buy the ticket then scan it at the security entry, and line up in the elevator queue, which luckily happened only to take a few minutes.
THE VIEW.
Sunset was at 7:38pm that night and ngl I was a lil bummed I got there kinda right at sunset so the western part of the sky around Vesuvius was already getting dark. BUT it was still MAGICAL :) and I'm glad I made the trek! It was a fairly clear day and watching the colors of the city change as the dusk waned into night was the first time in a long time I'd properly savored a sunset. Not overrated in the least!
OOPS.
I got a one-way ticket up and realized after ascending that there are no direct stairs down the same way that the elevator went up. Clever way for them to sell round trip tickets! Ended up walking a completely separate way back down.
BT-DUBs.
- There's a small cafe stand on the top of the park, with about a few more than a dozen tables, packed with customers on a Saturday evening! They serve coffee, wine, simple cocktails, and light bites.
- A location of the state archives sits kitty-corner from the park within a palace building (Palazzo Carafa di Santa Severina) though doesn't look to be open to the public. read more
