Great food We stumbled across this cafe after visiting the Duomo. It was a wonderful place for lunch! The food was outstanding. There were some great options in the display cabinet for lunch at a very reasonable price - you can choose three items from the display for a set price of €10.80 (or €12.80 for meat/fish). We liked it so much that we ate lunch there nearly every day of our stay and bought takeaway for dinner one night. The staff are very friendly and helpful (big thumbs up to Steven). I was impressed with Montanucci! This small town has a modern, spacious, delightful bar/café. The interior has many nooks and lots of wood paneling. You can get a light lunch, snack, beverages, cocktails and dessert. The frittata I ordered was tasty with crumbly pie type dough at the base and a lattice pattern on top. The hot tea was extremely necessary since it was gale force winds today. The dessert of a slice of chocolate cake was rich and not sweet (which is good)! Overall, if only I knew the way to order there would have been lot less confusion. To do so (order): Go to the bar, ask for what you want, take the number given to the cashier to pay, then take the paid receipt to the bar and a server will bring your stuff to a table. It was a bit confusing since I wanted to sit at a table and not drink my tea at the bar. The café seemed to host a social/group celebration (birthday for a matriarch?) in a private room at a lower level. Tourists were huddled over cups of tea or coffee. My family and I were in Italy in September. We stayed in a villa in Orvieto for a week and let me just tell you we had stopped here MULTIPLE times in just ONE day! But that whole week we went AT LEAST once a day because the staff was great and the gelato was DELICIOUS!!! If I ever come back to Orvieto in the future(which is likely) I will definetly be coming back here! The stracciatella gelato was my absolute FAVORITE! I was only in Orvieto for a one night stay but managed to eat twice at Montenucci: once for some gelato after a Michelin-starred dinner at nearby Trattoria La Palomba and again the next morning for a cappuccino and some breakfast pastries. The cafe is very centrally located just off one of the main piazzas in Orvieto. There is a large glass display case with gelato, pastries, sandwiches, pizza, etc. You order at that counter and they give you a receipt. You pay the cashier by the door on your way out. If you choose to dine in there are three separate dining areas you can choose from. All of the treats I ordered here were really tasty, especially the cream-filled pastry with peaches and dark chocolate on top! read more

Great little shop. Very busy, for obvious reasons. The pastries look incredible, the espresso is delicious, service is quick and friendly. They have tons to choose from, and the chocolate selection looks to die for. They were setting out lunch options when we arrived, and we already plan on going back. Great place for every meal of the day. Clearly a popular place in town, and for good reason. The restaurant staff identified us as Americans, so they helped us with the process of ordering and paying. The staff is all bilingual, some more than others, and very friendly. The food itself is excellent and reasonably priced, relative to the rest of town. Their breakfast selection is great, as they have pastries but also sandwiches (rare to find in the morning, typically). I'm personally a big fan of their lasagna lunch. They also serve pizza for lunch, and they have a standard Italian menu for dinner. If you're ever in Orvieto, this is a fail-safe option for any meal. read more
