The train tickets were quite expensive (about 100 euro for one person), so decided to rent a car and drive there. After a while, we started looking for someplace to get coffee and I found in yelp this beautiful place was ahead of us in just a couple of miles. It's a very quiet and small Italian city where you will not find any tourists. Narrow streets, with a stunning view to Toscana. We liked this place so much, so I even offered my girlfriend to stay here. Caffe Venezia is a small cafeteria where you will find anything you want. Here you can have your breakfast, brunch, or lunch and the prices are three times cheaper then in Roma or any other big cities. The owner was a very polite and nice guy.

We all ordered the 7 course tasting menu with wine paring (see snarky comments above). 1) foie gras, almond and cherry - happiness and complexity. I don't agree with the paring, a sparkling white was lost to the bravado of the appetizer 2) amberjac ceviche with guacamole and puffed rice - unique juxtaposition of temperatures and flavor profiles 3) rabbit saccotinni, radish, parmesan and rosemary 4) sweet peppers spaghetti, lavender ricotta cheese, dry gia 5) turbot fillet in crust, chick peas, muscles and herbs 6) cinta Senese pork, fennel purée, bbq lettuce and licorice sauce 7) milk - like ice creamy stuff with fancy stuff Coffee - well, they gave us a menu and came back for our order 35 minutes later, after we flagged the waiter down....I was done...done Decor - incredible. On the veranda with amazing, historic views of the local castle. Staff - efficient and well versed on the material but with an overtone of displeasure at our prescience. The property itself is absolutely breathtaking, situated on a hill, in a luxury complex of the castle. The restaurant features an outdoor patio and an indoor, formal space. I'd have preferred sitting outside, but it was a very chilly night in April, in the off-season. The restaurant used to be a private club, but recently became open to public. The service was attentive and top notch. You have the option of ordering a 7-course tasting menu or go rogue, and order á la carte. I opted for a 4-course menu, because I was specifically looking to try the snails, fish courses and sweetbreads. The welcome dish was beautifully presented and consisted of various proteins in different animal forms nestled on moss in minimalist dishes. The breads followed with an array of salts collected from different corners of the world, along with butter and a delicious olive oil. The amuse bouche was my least favorite, constructed of duck and sesame crisp. As I visited in spring, I noticed a seasonal use of green ingredients - peas, mint, asparagus, nettle, parsley that was repeated throughout the night. I loved the snail appetizer and the char with asparagus and quinoa. The risotto with sweetbreads and the sea bass dish were a beautiful and rich ending to the dinner. I loved the presentation of every dish. I was too full to order a dessert but the staff surprised me with a fun mignardise course. What an imaginative and delicious experience!
