I have been charged for 4 months after trying twice to end my subscription to the paper. After two different phone calls today, with 4 different representatives, I think that maybe I was finally able to end my subscription. Montana Standard makes it virtually impossible to cancel a subscription. This is predatory and should be regulated. Also, their customer service is not local and they are very obviously using inexpensive labor in Asia, which is pretty crappy. read more

After my subscription went up more than 10 dollars per month, I'd had enough. I was forced to call to talk to someone and then they tried 4 different times to convince me to keep paying for highly overpriced garbage. I just realized that I have been being overcharged by more than double. That is on me for not realizing it, but when I tried to cancel by asking NO LESS than four times, the person would not cancel, saying they did not want me to miss out on all the benefits. When I asked to talk to a supervisor I was put on hold and then disconnected. And my e-subscription is STILL NOT CANCELLED. So have to call back tomorrow and try yet again to cancel my subscription. Mobile app users with a monthly subscription to The Montana Standard can expect to be trapped into thinking they can cancel their subscription from the app. Not so. Users will be redirected to contact a local Butte, MT phone number which is then rerouted to a "customer service" call center located somewhere in the Middle East or Asia, where there is an enormous language barrier from the Montana Standard customer service representative. After several phone calls and requests for call backs, I was finally able to cancel my subscription, but it took 3 months to get someone on the phone, who then tried to talk me out of my cancellation and kept telling me he didn't understand what I was saying or why I was cancelling. Totally dishonest newspaper. Got a bill which stated that my subscription would run until February 10, 2019. Got a notice in January that my subscription would run out on January 15. Called and got someone in Indiana (not even employing people in Montana) and was told the January ending date was correct and said to read the back of the bill. I did not quite understand and contacted the Standard's head office in Montana and was told by Diann Brinig, the Home Delivery Manager that the paper added special features which I pay extra for and can't drop out of. So when they told me my subscription lasted until February 10, 2019 they weren't being fully honest because there was nothing written on the back of that bill.
