Russell Dobrzynski is the best guide in the Craig, MT area....hands down!! I can say that because I…read morehad three other guides prior to connecting with him. Not only is he an avid outdoors' man, but he is also extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching fly fishing skills. You will hook fish and land fish with dry flies as well as nymphs. Russell helped me land an 18 inch brown and numerous fat rainbows on the Missouri River. If you want to learn to fly fish, Russ is your teacher. If you want to put your fly fishing skills to use; he will take you where the fish live. But, more important, he will help you keep the fish where they live ;-). Live the Montana Dream, ask for Russell on your next fly fishing excursion. Request him ahead of time, the word is out!!

Unprofessional guiding experience…read more We booked a three-day guided trip with Russ through Montana Dream Fishing Outfitters- two days drifting the Missouri River and one day wading the Blackfoot. To his credit, Russ knows both stretches of water well and put us on active fish throughout the trip. That said, the overall experience felt unprofessional. Over the course of the three days, Russ's comments and attention toward me felt flirtatious and inappropriate, uncomfortable given I was there with my boyfriend. There was also a clear, consistent imbalance in guiding: whether we were drifting the Missouri or wading the Blackfoot, Russ focused heavily on getting me onto fish while giving my boyfriend noticeably less help. On the river days, he also seemed to position the boat at times in ways that worked against my boyfriend landing a fish. The low point came at the end of the trip. When we tipped Russ, he complained about the amount and lectured us on tipping etiquette. Criticizing clients over a voluntary gratuity is not okay. We caught fish across both rivers, but that doesn't offset three days with an outfitter who made one of us uncomfortable, treated us unequally, and then lectured us about money. I wouldn't book again.

Great float trip on the Missouri river…read more We had two boats and two guides from Cross Currents. Max Kelley guided my two teenaged boys, 16 and 15-years-old, in one boat. My boys had a great time and caught some beautiful bows. Max was great with them. I could hear my son laughing and having a good time across the Mo. Michael Burk guided my wife and I. My wife has very little fly fishing experience. Mike was patient and a great teacher. My wife felt comfortable and had a great time. She caught more fish than I did! The river was so beautiful. We also stayed overnight in one of Cross Currents' cottages. The accommodations were dated but clean and did the trick for a one-night stay. We want to come back fish the Mo again. We will ask for Mike and Max again.

Pros: Staff are awesome, friendly, and knowledgeable. Parking is easy. There is a store with food,…read moredrinks, and clothing. The area is beautiful. Cons: The boat that is covered gets hot inside, unless there is a cool breeze. If you are in the covered boat and not seated at a window, you will miss the majority of sites that are called out during the narration. Views are very limited. If the boat is full, you can't really walk and hang out on the back of the boat which is open air. The boat moves very slow. Did I mention it gets warm? My advice: if an option, take the open air boat (Sacajawea) where there is no cover (bring sunscreen). Check to see if they rent pontoons or other boats. Just an ok experience and wouldn't do it again.

We were surprised at the detail and time he took to explain and show us how to back the boat in. We didn't have to do anything for safety equipment etc. It was all on the boat. He even filled the ice chest with Ice. The little touches sure make a difference. We spent an amazing day on a Brand New Boat and the kids had a blast! We will do this every year we come to Helena. We have no reservations about referring this company. Thanks Jeremy and Steve ! See you next summer!
