Plants AND books?? My two weaknesses! Monstera's Books is a super cute addition to the downtown OP area. You can tell the vibes are going to be great the second you walk inside. The staff was so kind, welcoming, and helpful! They have tons of books crammed into this small space - from fiction to travel to kids to classics! And the plants are lowkey cheap (way less expensive than other plant stores in the KC area). Love supporting a woman owned business and indie bookstore!! They have some parking available in a lot in front of the store, but on a busy weekend, you might have to find street parking.

The view of the store when you first walk in!

A delightful addition to Downtown Overland Park, a great and vibrant bookstore with a well curated selection of books from a good range of genres. While it's a limited selection they have a lot of variety and great options and are more than willing to order for you if you can't find what you want. They also have a ton of really gorgeous plants that I believe are for sale, but more than anything they add a brilliant pop of green that gives the inside of the store a great ambiance and welcoming nature. It was an easy walk from my apartment down to their store front, the prices seemed fair, and the people I spoke with were friendly and talkative. I picked up a copy of Hard Boiled Wonderland by Haruki Murakami (an absolute favorite author of mine) and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon, a book I that's been on my radar for quite awhile that I finally today decided to get to support the store. I'm excited to have this spot right here, along with all the wonderful coffee shops by Monstera, you could get a book and then walk over to sit down at homers or Parisi with a coffee and pastry of your choice and enjoy falling in love with a brand new book, or in warmer weather go over to Thompson Park just up the road! Can't wait to shop here again.

My husband and I stopped into this book/plant store while in the area. We were pleasantly surprised (literally) because from the appearance of the front of the store it seems like it would not be as nice on the inside. The inside is very homey, eclectically cool and enjoyable to browse. We liked all the plants displayed for sale among the book displays and the seating as well. We were greeted upon entering and browsed the various book titles. I was a bit confused on some pricing because some books had stickers with their price and others seem not to have any and I am assuming they were just charging the cover price?? The ones with the stickers were reasonable but the books that didn't have stickers were more expensive and could be purchased cheaper online. I think if the outside view of the store matched the inside it might draw more people who see it from the street.

this woman-owned, neighborhood shop recently opened in downtown op and stocks all of your favorite book and plant needs. with plans for book groups and classes later this year, it's definitely a spot you'll want to frequent books are our second love, just behind brunch, and we're so excited to see independent, local bookshops make a resurgence.

They are doing everything right here. The whole time I just kept thinking, it keeps getting better!! They have every romance novel under the sun- including the ones I've been trying together get my hands on that are always out of stock at bigger stores, they have all the fantasy books, amazing and newest biographies and non fiction, such cute gifting items, plants, plant things, sweetest workers and the vibes are on point you're going to wish you could just stay there all day!!

Rainy Day Books is kind of the best of both worlds - a book lover's paradise staffed by book…read moreworms. It's a cozy space, but it's jampacked with books from all subjects. If you can't find what you're looking for - which for some reason happens me a lot - the staff is happy to order a copy for you. They're book club friendly. They also host a ton of fun book-related and author events. If you're interested, please follow their social media accounts. They'll keep you up to date.

Every time I go into the shop, even if I think I know exactly what I want, every staff member is so knowledgeable and helpful that I always leave with more ideas on my TBR! The little shop is located in the tiny shopping center off Brush Creek Parkway, which means it can be hard to find parking if the center is petty busy--but it's worth it! They have great sections for adult reads, but they also have great sections for kids and teens--you'll find what you're looking for even if you're not sure what that is. Over the holidays, I even asked for kids and teens recommendations from the staff which they were happy to give! As noted earlier, their shop isn't huge, but full of possibilities. And if at the end of your visit, you really still want that book they don't have in stock, they'll order it for you for pick up or shipping--it's a simple process and they're more than happy to help people find their perfect next read. They may not be a book superstore, but they create value in their suggestions, recommendations, and their tiny book reviews and recs on the shelves (even in the teens and kids sections, written by kids and teens!). So glad to have found this place early on in my time in KC, and so happy that they're still doing their thing in their amazing bookshop!

Books were SO much a part of our parenting I was transported to such deep memories. The attention to detail! The places to sit and read incorporated throughout! We went to an Adults only event just to check It out and we have already bought tickets to take our adult kids next month!!!

This museum is exceptional! I felt like a kid again seeing my favorite storybooks come to life!…read moreEvery single nook and cranny of this space was well thought out and artistically crafted. It was nice to have places for the kids to climb and explore. And there were also spaces to rest and be quiet. I like that each book was unique on display so it wasn't the same old thing over and over again. What I really loved was that they have multiple copies of each book represented in said section. So the ones we hadn't read and were interested in, we were able to discover like The Funny Thing and The Fire Cat. And ones we were aware if were fun to read while exploring like Goodnight Moon (my absolute favorite part), Babar, Frog and Toad, and No, David! The bus ride is a must; so creative and heart warming. We didn't purchase tickets for The Three Robbers experience, but peeking inside I wish we had, it looks great. The docents and volunteers were all knowledgeable of the books. And they were very kind when needing to remind kids of the museum rules. If I lived here I would by an annual membership for sure. And would have gladly paid more than the current $16 admission as I think this experience is worth much more.
