Came here with friends who recommended this place. There weren't any dining tables left so we were seated at a table by the bar which we didn't mind. Service was a tad slow here but picked up as more people started sitting at the bar. We ordered the following: -combo platter (summer rolls, peppered squid, krishna pakhora, three cheese naan, and SFC) - all items were pretty good and my favorite was the krishna pakhora vegetables and SFC chicken which is surprising since these are usually not my favorite meats/veggies -firecracker slider - friends said it was very spicy and I had to try it. This was the right amount of spicy for me and I wish I had ordered it as my main -nasi goreng - good amount of meat but not really extraordinary -lamb curry - good, doesn't come with rice but my partner just ate it as is since he's allergic -krakatoa fire bowl - love the fire element to the drink and it was tasty and didn't taste very alcoholic (even though it's made of a lot of liquors) but it's pricey -bartender's choice - THIS is what I would 100% come back for and surprisingly very affordable. I told them that I like whiskey/bourbon and love yuzu citrus (the more citrusy the better) and they made me a drink that tasted amazing! According to my friends, the food has less spice now compared to when they've had it previously. Overall, I would come back here at least for the drinks and the firecracker chicken. read more

This place was a surprise since I was expecting much less in terms of flavour profile but the food turned out to be amazing! The service was quick and efficient and we arrived for an early dinner. The ambience is good enough but a felt a little dingy to me. We tried multiple dishes and they were all very flavourful, especially the beef main dish on the menu. Asian fusion par excellence. We were searching for a wonderful dining experience different than fish and chips, burgers and chips, pizza and chips, you understand. Monsoon Poon was the answer. Seven minutes walk from Cuba street, three minutes from Te Papa Tongarewa. Great selection of Asian dishes (primarily Indian, Thai and Vietnamese), fun decor and lively happening vibe. Almost returned the next day, it was that good. Don't forget coconut rice or one of their reasonably priced specialty cocktails. read more

A remarkable place - Asian fusion and everything is done well! Wonderful fresh spring rolls with a killer cilantro/lime/chili sauce- cool and then the tangy tantalizing bite! Indian Lamb curry- just right - the meat just melts- And finally Bangkok street noodles- a nice mish-mash and the telltale smokiness Finally- the sambal is absolutely the bomb- literally! I haven't had the best track record with Asian cuisine in New Zealand so I thought I'd opt for something safe. With FIRECRACKER CLUB boxed out on their menu, I'd figured the firecracker chicken would be impossible to screw up. Where can you go wrong with fried, crispy breaded chicken tossed in some sort of sauce like every Western-Asian dish in the world? A lot, apparently. First, let's start with the mostly positive: a tomato-based chili sauce that doesn't get spicy until a quarter of the way in. The heat slowly builds up and gets seriously spicy about mid-way through. Though I liked the sauce, I felt the tangy tomato sauce needed something else to balance it out like sweetness. But the sauce can only do so much when the chicken is the weakest link. Was this chicken fried the day before? The breading wasn't crispy, it was just kinda there. It wouldn't be so bad if the chicken was juicy, but instead it was dried out. Anyone that's eaten chicken from a Chinese take-out shop that's been sitting too long under a heat lamp would understand. But this wasn't a take-out shop, with the rice on a separate line item, the total meal was 29 NZD. At least the water was free. read more

Got a drink.... but we were greeted by our waitress, had our appetizers served quickly then must have waited 45-60 minutes for our main dish-ugh! The summer rolls were nice and fresh- would order again. The chicken satay were not the best I've ever had.... for some reason, the sauce came across a little bland. Would have liked a bite of ginger, garlic, lime or all three in the sauce. We ordered the shaking beef and added saffron rice (on our own recommendation). I got really excited to eat here on the drive in. My husband was craving Asian Fusion and I found this place was too rated. We arrive and are seated then ignored for 20 min. No water no menus nothing. This waitress who had walked back and forth a few times finally stops by our table to take our orders as if suddenly remembering she was supposed to be doing a job. We order drinks, an app and our dinner. After a little while we have our drinks and app in front of us and then we are ignored for literally 40 min. No water refills nothing as the waitress repeatedly walks back and forth glancing at our table. Finally after an eternity she comes over an asks oh are you done? Did you want your main course because we hadn't finished one bite of our naan app. Meanwhile water is empty drinks are done it's been sitting there for a while. Music was so loud I could barely hear my husband next to me. When's e finally got our dinner it was bland at best. 1 star off for the music 2 for the terrible wait staffs read more

I was extremely happy by my entire meal experience. As an American, I am used to having decent sized portions for food. I split two main dishes and 3 sides with my 2 friends. Everything we ordered was delicious, and we were the right level of full. Our mains included Singapore Noodles, Black chilli tofu, and our sides included plain and coconut rice, and naan. Typically, I don't even walk into restaurants like these (thai/indian fusion) because I have a severe peanut, treenut, and fish allergy. However, Monsoon Poon had a separate menu that categorized each of their menu items into the top 7-8 allergens, and made it extremely easy to tell what ingredients were in each dish/safe to eat. Even after ordering the Singapore noodles, they double checked with me in the kitchen and were excellent about altering the dish to remove the shrimp and oyster sauce so it was safe. read more

Went here with a school group before WOW for a cheap dinner, it was pretty average. Rice or naan don't come with curries or butter chicken so you have to pay extra, which isn't great. It all adds up - and is overpriced. The staff were all right but not over friendly and it was very dark so hard to read menus. read more

Nice ambiance with friendly servers. Quite a big place but it gets crowded fast so try going earlier. Tried the caramelized onion & garlic naan, duck & pineapple curry + rice, and honey soy salmon. The duck curry was quite a big portion and very good, for spice lovers. I was in Wellington to see our daughter at Uni and spent some time wandering around trying to find somewhere that would serve great food to suit all our tastes - varies from hot to mild Went into a couple places but the chef had gone home...kitchen closed etc Then we found this place and WOW. The inside is brilliantly decorated with the kitchen open for all in the restaurant to see the food being prepared. There is a mirror conveniently located above the food preparation bench and you can watch the cooks in action The menu is a great mix of Asian food. With Indian Malay Singaporean Thai And Chinese dishes. We went for a mix of 6 or so and the taste was superb. Probably the best meal out in a long time. And the beer comes in a large pitcher if you choose We tried the Vietnamese Spring rolls vegetable pakora tacos. Pork belly. Singapore noodles. Indian chickpea salad tofu with Bok Choi and the taste was just great Service was provided by a team of friendly staff who really tried their best and provided excellent service If I am back in Wellington I'll definitely eat here again Highly recommended read more

The range of food is 'south east asain' so there is a huge range of malaysian, indian, asain etc. The food is fresh, delicious and fast cooked in an open kitchen with a big mirror above so you can see all the happenings.
