This review is for the MCC COVID-19 drive up testing site. I've been tested twice now at this location and am so impressed by how seamless the process is at MCC. With safety top of mind, you won't roll down your windows until it is time for the swab of doom to enter your nose, and you'll answer all questions through the window as well. Bring your photo ID, have your appt number zoomed in on your phone and hop in line. Both times, the process from entering the line to leaving has been about 10 minutes TOPS. Making an appointment is super easy now with the option to call or schedule via a form online and get confirmation via text. My test was scheduled for the following day, but I've heard many people getting in same day as testing in Monroe County has slowed down. It looks a little apocalyptic with the National Guard, troopers, and heavy PPE, and I am grateful all workers have the ability to shield themselves and stay safe. I am so impressed with how seamless and easy this process is and am SO beyond grateful for the people working so hard day in and day out for the last 7 months. If you have yet to be tested and are thinking about it because you've been in close contact with other humans, I would HIGHLY recommend this test site. While I know pharmacies are currently offering tests as well, I think the safety precautions and more certainty that results will be correct is worth the drive to Henrietta. It is very uncomfortable for about 10 seconds (especially if you have a deviated septum or breathing issues like me) and worth the peace of mind. As an adult learner and former business owner, I found the administrative oversight at MCC to be a significant liability. Federal ADA/Section 504 compliance is handled at the classroom level with high variability, leading to documented refusals of accommodations. If you are an adult student with complex medical needs or a disability, be aware that the 'interactive process' here is non-functional. I spent 1 semester at MCC and am transferring out. I intended to graduate with a 2 year MCIS degree. The degree of instability at MCC was apparent the moment the semester started, and unfortunately, it was too late for me to leave and begin at a new college. read more

mcc? let's just say they're a disgrace to the 585. their disability services? absolutele garbage. they don't care if you have a disability, they only care about getting your money and that's it. dining hall was awful. severely understaffed and the staff themselves were pretty rude. they got my orders wrong not once but TWICE. i ended up just dropping out all together because of their crappy service. but even that was a nightmare because records and registration did a horrible job at even bothering to go through with it. i will never go back to mcc again read more

If you want to teach there... I don't recommend. I was hired by the surgical technology program and was given no orientation proper training to start. I was left on my own and when things weren't done properly I was spoken too. But I had NO guidance on how to complete tasks, etc. I reported a director for being unprofessional towards students and the school let me go and kept him. Very toxic and unprofessional environment. I have taught at other schools and never have I experienced such chaos and unorganized system. read more

I am absolutely livid with MCC admissions! My son has fallout depression & anxiety from COVID clinically diagnosed. He has gone through treatment & is ready to enroll at MCC. He has submitted everything necessary to enroll 3 weeks ahead, but last semester they couldn't match it up in time for him to enroll as a matriculated student. This semester he tried again & they couldn't find his paperwork & get the new application matched up before Christmas. He checked with admissions & made an appointment for a week & 1/2 before the start of classes. The morning of the appointment, the appointment was canceled because she is also a nurse & something came up. My son's anxiety is back along with the depression. He is ready to give up on life all over again! Why would a school do this for someone who has done everything asked of him & just wants to learn! They have set him back emotionally at least a year if not more!!! I am livid & hold all the blame on MCC admissions!!!!! read more

The campus is beautiful, there are great labs, Facilities, dining options and clubs and honestly, it can be a fun place to be, but fun doesn't always equate a valuable investment. MCC has earned the unfortunate moniker of "The Super High School" for a reason, and quite unfortunately - It fits. It's extremely "cliquey" and everything about it from the attitude of roughly 70% of the students to the "hang outs" peppering school grounds that some things haven't evolved past very juvenile standard's of behavior and expectations. I've heard it referred to as "An American Pie movie gone wrong" and had to admit it's not far off. Moreover, only a few professors seam to care about student success enough to invest time or any serious amount of effort in any of the folks in their class - Some even going so far as to get uppity and snarky when a student asks questions or needs help struggling through a subject successfully. On the other hand a few professors can be quite exemplary and work hand in hand with their class to insure their pupils success. Unfortunately that list is far too low in my own experience to amount to very many stars review wise. read more

After my wife Cynthia left me 6 years ago, I did a lot of soul searching. She never gave an exact reason for the separation, but I think it was due to my fledgling career prospects. I had been scratching out a living at JC Penny until the recession hit, The '08 one. After that it was jumping from job to job. Taking what I could get. Cynthia did remarry, and I think she is happy.  She posts a lot on Facebook about the vacations she goes on with her new husband. His name is Ken, he's a research management associate at some big tech company in New Jersey. So anyways after a long shift at bed bath and beyond I came home to watch some T.V and eat dinner. I got in my comfy chair and put on CSI: Miami. David Caruso is so cool in that show. He's everything I want to be. Assertive resourceful and confident. Later that night I told myself "you sitting on the couch you watching tv and your life is passing you by. You keep procrastinating, over and over well maybe ill go to school next year, next semester. No do it right now!. They'll work with you after work, or you can go before work. You can do whatever you need to graduate. Go talk to someone right now. you spend all day on the phone anyhow. What don't you make a phone call that's going to help you in your future." So that's when I decided that I want to get in into Crime scene investigations. So I signed up for my class and was all excited until I realized halfway through the semester I signed up for Computer information systems. I was so embarrassed that I was in the wrong class that I just decided to leave in the middle of the lecture and never go back. I'm not looking forward to my shift at Bed bath and beyond tomorrow. read more

First time I enrolled in MCC, I was charged double for classes. No one ever told me I had to fill out an application for proof of residency if you live outside of the Rochester area, so I had to drop out. Now, I am in the process of getting the form notarized and I receive A BILL FOR CLASSES I HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED YET, but I already filed the application for financial aid MONTHS AGO. I have never had these issues with any other school. My student advisor is very nice, but when you e mail some of the staff, like I needed special accomodations for the placement test, the testing department never got back to me, so I was forced to take the placement test without the assistance that I needed. I will be applying for another school and withdrawing my application from MCC. read more

MCC is a great school, with wonderful teachers. I know a lot of people have negative thoughts and views on it and I'm not sure why, it is what you make it. If you are there to get an education then you should enjoy this school. I'm going for my second bachelors and I went to a SUNY school the first time around. I believe that it is right up there when it comes to academics and faculty. I'll be going to my third college in the fall and I believe that the classes I have taken at Monroe Community College have prepared me well for that. Also, the tuition is very reasonable especially when comparing to the SUNY school I went to. I guess you can't really put a price on education, if you use it, but it sure is nice not to be bombarded with loans. I would recommend the school to anyone looking to expand on their education or even if they are starting out. They have been very welcoming to us "older" students :-) and they have numerous amounts of classes during the night and weekend so that I can still work my full time job during the week. read more

Had to resolve simple paperwork issue and college pointed me in 1,000 different directions to resolve this issue. Ive had a better experience with the Locals/trade unions than the college. This review is not related to academics or the food. It is related to the financial aspect of going there. This is my story. When I applied for FASFA I received a Pell Grant. I was told that my Pell Grant was going to be accepted and that my classes would be paid for. This was the beginning of Fall 2017. Later in the semester, like a month in, I received a bill for my classes and went there to ask why. They said it was because my classes weren't in my major so they couldn't apply my Pell Grant. I found this kind of odd because a 4 year school would have used the money regardless of if the classes were in my major or not. Maybe it was because they are a 2 year school. Whatever the case, I asked what I could do to get them to use my grant. They advised me to change my major and that should solve the problem, so I did. I switched from Bio Technologies to Liberal Arts. ... During winter break, late December, I get another bill, and I try to go there but the school is closed. I had to wait until Mid-January to go there and ask what was going on. Three hours later, nothing was solved. I was told I had to email FACE or something like that and plead my case. Ask them to accept my classes as part of my new major. I email them from my personal email and got a response that said I had to email them from my school email address. -.- So I did. I email them and kept looking for a response. Never got one. By now they are threatening to send my bill to collections. I go there again with my mother and the woman who I talked to basically said I was screwed in a very polite way. By the way, this whole time, after the December bill, I tried to sign up for a payment plan through their student website. .... Wasn't informed by ANYONE that you can only sign up online during the semester you received the initial bill in. If I had signed up in October I'd have been fine, but since it was a new semester, Spring 2018, I'd have to go there in person to sign up. ... I signed up and paid them down to $100 ... But I can't make my last payment because they erased my account. ... Probably sent me to collections even though they received $2122.25 from me so far. Foe one damn semester that they could have just applied my f-ing Pell Grant and been paid in full Fall 2017. .... How can I pay my bill if I can't get into my account? ... Prior to this disaster I would have encourage anyone to go there. Now ... Not so sure. ... Let this be a lesson to you. ONLY TAKE CLASSES IN YOUR MAJOR. Don't think about learning anything else and becoming a well rounded student/person. Stick to your side of the tracks. read more

Some of the professors here REALLY make this college worth it. But they're far and few between. Parking fees per semester are outrageous, with a pot-hole ridden campus, and barely any parking as it is. I resorted to online classes to finish my degree and for 3 classes it's almost $200 extra because they're online. I've had a problem with at least one teacher EVERY semester. When I went to the campus for classes, 99% of the bathrooms were disgusting (thanks to our lovely classmates), people were loud and obnoxious right near classrooms that they could see were in session, and I never felt safe walking to my car alone after night classes. Books are extremely expensive, and because it takes 5 weeks to get financial aid, it forces you to buy the more expensive books at the school. I got the max federal & state aid each semester for classes and between books, commuting, and having to retake classes and skip out on financial aid because of a few horrible professors, I was forced to take out loans every semester. I've been there 4 years to finish a 2 year degree because liberal arts students walk in without being assigned an advisor. I had to seek one out myself. I'm on my 4th year here, 17k in student loan debt and maxed on my financial aid, no direction in my career path, and absolutely appalled at this being a "community college." My 2 year degree isn't even useable without obtaining at least a bachelors. Thanks for nothing. By the way, don't even get me STARTED on calling the Brighton financial aid office. Their knowledge is sub-par (as I got a lot of "I don't know's", their attitude is disgusting, and they belittle you for asking questions about YOUR money. I guess they've given into being a money scheme. read more

After my experience with student accounts today, I will never suggest this school to another person. I am a full time teacher k-3, and I was lied to over 10 times without one apology. The person who hires the people who work in student accounts need to do a serious check into who works there because they are making mistakes that have affected my livelihood which were all due to one person not doing their job right and giving me the wrong information. Again, not a single apology. At this point I simply do not trust this school with my money as the people who work there simply don't know what's going on. Literally one second I was told I would get a large sum of money in 2-3 days. 2-3 days later, I go into the building and oops, someone didn't do something right, but is it their mistake? NOPE! It's my problem. I asked why the correct way wasn't done the first time, and they said I don't know. Unacceptable #1. I was then told that my money would be in my account that day, to which an employee started yelling across the office saying "NO! No! that's not true." I then asked to speak with the manager who offered absolutely no help, was rude, did not apologize for their mistake, and did not offer any further help. I need to take credits to heighten my degree to get a higher salary and you better believe I will never, ever recommend this school to a single soul ever again. And this is coming from an Alumni. Be careful with your money. Keep every paper to prove them wrong when they start blaming you for things, and thanks MCC student accounts for messing with my livelihood, my vacation, and my childrens meals, without a single apology. You literally disgust me. LEARN HOW TO DO YOUR JOBS. If I ran that school I would clean house immediately. Completely and utterly acceptable. read more

To be 100% honest MCC is not as bad as some might say... No it is not the greatest college in the world nor is it even the greatest college in NYS but as a starting point for higher education it is definitely worth it! I highly recommend MCC for anyone who wants an entry level college experience! read more

Despite the negativity MCC usually gets from my fellow peers; "It's the 13th grade" "It's soo ghetto", I think MCC is actually a really good school. Now, lets not forget it is a community college so you are going to have people who take the bus in to hang out with their friends all day and aren't enrolled in a single class, but if you actually take classes here you will understand that most of the professors are great and you can really get a good education here. Having gone from MCC to a SUNY school, I have realized that the quality of most of the classes at MCC are on nearly the same level as SUNY Brockport's classes. Going to MCC will save you a lot of money if you are willing to take it seriously and not spend 10+ years screwing off there. I think given it is a community college it is a great school and I would definitely recommend doing any pre-requisites that will be accepted at your prospective schools to save money. Also, there RN nursing program is awesome, one of the best in the area as far as NCLEX scores show, which can be explained by it's outrageous waiting list! read more
