For dessert, we had the hot chocolate (just like the one my mom used to make!), and Sandra brought out some sweet bread to go with it (fantastic). We also tried the guava gelatin, which was superb. The Portobello Roquefort seemed unique and a good enough option for a lunch sandwich. The restaurant is set-up very elegantly, and the service was right on par with the ambiance. Not a detail was overlooked and our dining needs were attended to with great attention. I am almost considering coming back again before I head out. Highly recommended restaurant for breakfast or lunch!

We arrived around 10:30 a.m. and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away even though the restaurant looked packed. There's actually an upstairs area that you can't see at first, so don't be discouraged if it looks full when you walk in. Our group ordered a mix of items -- fresh green juice, two plates of chilaquiles, and two hamburgers -- and everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Service was quick and friendly. Our server was kind, made great recommendations, and navigated the language barrier with patience and smiles. What makes this spot even more special is its location inside a small marketplace filled with local vendors selling everything from clothes and jewelry to organic oils and scrubs. After breakfast, we wandered through the shops and ended up buying a few cute items -- the perfect way to start our trip! Overall, Petit Roquefort was such a delightful surprise -- great food, warm service, and a charming atmosphere. Highly recommend for your first (or any!) morning in CDMX.

Putting my ego and the fact that I literally am a tourist aside, it was a fair criticism. I responded to these and asked for a recs, and 8/10 of them said I HAD to go to Fonda Margarita. I arrived early the next day, and boy were they right. I walked in and took a seat among strangers at one of the metal tables with live music being played directly behind us. In the best way possible, I felt like I was on a movie set. Fonda Margarita is one of the only places I've been that feels like it has been untouched by the all-encompassing river of time. They are cooking the guisados in huge clay pots, the staff takes your order with pen and paper, there are no QR code menus, no AI marketing, etc. I was the only one who didn't speak Spanish at the table (obviously), and the whole group cheered me on as I ordered in my broken Spanish. From there, we communicated by passing the phone back and forth with google translate as they asked where I'm from, how long I'm in town, and how I heard about the restaurant. I asked them the same questions back while also asking for recommendations of other local spots to hit. One lady across from me, who was at least in her 80s, told me she had been coming here since she was 17 years old and it hasn't changed at all. You gotta respect the OGs. In similar fashion to the people, the food was SENSATIONAL. I ordered their famous frijoles con huevo, chilaquiles with chicken, and a chicharon guisado. I'll be the first to admit the frijoles con huevo fails the eye test on every level. It looks like a turd. I was nervous for that first bite, but my tastebuds EXPLODED in exaltation. It's literally just refried beans and eggs cooked in lard, so I don't know how it could be that delicious. The lady next to me leaned in and said "This only here. Nowhere else in Mexico. Only here." The chilaquilas were draped in salsa verde with a HUGE piece of chicken on top. Head and shoulders the best chilaquiles I've ever had. They changed me. I'll be honest, the chicharron guisado wasn't my favorite but I was so full by the time I got to it. I don't think it got a fair shake. It makes me so happy to know that places like this still exist. I placed an order for their birria tacos, and it was served with consome. (3 tacos + consome - $65 MXN - $3.70) - The taco meat felt more like ground beef and had an extremely high fat content. It was probably 70% beef /30% fat. This is not how birria is supposed to be. I was so disappointed. While the service was friendly, this had to be the worst "birria" I have tried. Yes, it was tender, but it seemed like they just stir fried a bit of ground beef and seasoned it.

When we came in, there was no one there. It remained this way for the entire duration of our time there. I don't know if we just ate at a later time when most customers had already ate dinner or if the absence of customers is due to the food. Personally, I felt like their food is not bad, but it's also not good to the point where it blew my mind for me to come back for seconds. I ordered a prime rib with 2 quesadillas and avocado. The prime rib tasted a little bland and a little extra seasoning would have definitely helped out with the flavoring. The quesadillas were not that good because they were very dry. Overall, I would sum up the food as boring. The service was extremely friendly! Unfortunately due to my limited Spanish, I couldn't appreciate the warmth and enthusiasm of the conversation that the server was having with my other friends. Therefore, my review is mainly based on the quality of the food as opposed to the service. Oh and if you happen to be a foreigner like me and ends up using the English-version menu, the prices on it are wrong. The real prices are on the Spanish-version menu and they are slightly pricier.

They were good. I started with the cilantro soup. It was creamy with a hint of heat. The cilantro was an aftertaste and not overbearing. I would get this again. I decided to get the Chiles en Nogada, again. Since it is only in season such a short time. It was delicious! The temperature was warm. The group beef inside of the panlano was the perfect combination of meat, fruit, and nuts. The sauce was not too thick and not too sweet. Could have used more pomegranate but that's more my taste. Weird Banos situation: the Men's Bathroom is upstairs- be warned if you are drinking :) Women's is downstairs. One person said this was the best meal they had in Mexico. Everything was really good. I will come back here and try other dishes- like the chicken mole that was raved by one of our locals. The service was good. We drank a Mexican Cabernet wine and would get that again. The wine glasses we were served in varied in size. I got the baby glass! The decor is warm and inviting with interesting Mexico themes. The walls are rustic yet the art looks high end; this combination works here. Strange children's playroom upstairs.
