They museum is full of lots of old cars and vehicles. They have a very nice memorial wall. There are tons of awesome old artifacts. They had a very interesting Bonnie and Clyde display and the role Missouri played. There are also modern interactive exhibits. They have a eye open short video on texting and driving they will show to anyone who asks. I recommend it. Entrance is free. The door is around the front and on the left side kind of under the building. The way is marked with signs. I'd call this about a good 1-2hour stop you can stay as short or as long as you like and good for pretty much all ages.

Rams, Cardinals, 2 very different BBQs styles, a cut of steak, a national landmark, small towns fill you with the big city perfectly spaced out. I'm proud to be from the Show Me State. I couldn't imagine a better place to raide a child. People say hi, people care how you are doing, people are nice. In the big cities, they don't care. I've held the door open for people who are carrying more than they weigh, just to have them pretend I wasn't there. I found myself losing the Missouri kindness my mother put in me a couple years after moving out to the City of Angels. I found myself not acknowledging the person going out of their way to do something nice for me, a complete stranger-- and it made me sick. I hate the people who look down on the mid-westerns for whatever reason. Sorry when mid-westerns are in your big city they want to go to Hard Rock Cafe. Guess what, it's their fucking choice. Let 'em. They ain't going to ask you for change. They ain't going to mug you. It's your big city failures who do that. Let them enjoy something they don't see. You live in the city, get the fuck over it. Get your head out of your ass. Do you even know your neighbor's name? Not the one you snort coke off the hooker's ass with?

The interior is beautiful, and it felt like there were miles and miles of hallways to wander, which made exploring half the fun. I could only look into the galleries through the windows, but even from a distance they looked spectacular and full of detail. The rotunda was a standout for me, especially standing underneath it and looking up at the dome, which is genuinely stunning. It is one of those places that quietly sneaks up on you and makes you glad you took the time to stop and explore.

I've visited three state capitols, and they're all special in their own way. The Missouri one has…read moresome history of its own, as being the fifth overall capitol building in the state of Missouri, and just the 3rd one in Jeff City. You can park in a nearby garage or simply in front or back of the building. Be sure to check out the art and statues on the grounds, including the Statue of Liberty replica and the Thomas Jefferson statue. On the first floor is mostly the Missouri State Museum (not to be confused with the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis) where you can learn a lot about the Show-Me State. I highly recommend checking out the large timeline of Missouri events they have there. I also highly recommend checking out the gift shop, which doesn't seem like they have very much to offer (that's probably a good thing!). If you have a State Capitols Passport Stamp book, they will gladly stamp it. The other floors consist, of course, statewide offices as well as several offices for legislative leaders. As you enter the 2nd floor from the staircase you'll see the Governor's office door right away. (No, he wasn't there at the time of my visit). Down the hall is the Lt. Gov's office as well. The Senate and State House chambers are on the 3rd floor. Be sure to check out the detailed mural of artist Thomas Hart Benton, located on the 3rd floor. And the Hall of Famous Missourians, which consist of a very eclectic group of people: Walt Disney, Scott Joplin, Rush Limbaugh, Walter Cronkite, Stan Musial and many others. If you're a fan of visiting state capitols, this is for you. Got extra time? Check out the Bicentennial Bridge (MO celebrated its 200th birthday in 2021) that leads to a small island across the railroad tracks. Unfortunately, there's not much else to do in Jeff City, but you know.

This particular library is outstanding, spotlessly clean and a heavenly place to visit on a hot, sticky day. The librarians had some very classical music playing in the background and the a/c was perfect. There are plenty of comfy chairs and tables, lots of good light and super clean restrooms. I found a plug by one of the comfy chairs to charge my phone and check my email. Beware though, there is a strict NO CELLPHONE policy in place. I'm thinking texting and checking email is okay, chatting is not. Check the used book section as you come in, I bought two hard back books in perfect condition for .50 each!! There is a large children's section and the requisite public computers. What an oasis in the middle of nowhere, this lovely library is. Unfortunately, they will lose a star because as I was leaving at 5pm (they close at 5:30) I heard the librarian say "Hey folks, I'm going to shut the wi-fi down." Are you kidding me?
