I needed a business (not personal) check cashed issued by Driveo in El Cajon for selling my car. I was short in my savings for a purchase I had been saving for. I finally found something I liked and didn't want to lose it. My financial institution would deposit, but not cash the check because the check needed to be cleared by the issuing financial institution. Chase (the issuing financial institution) wouldn't cash the check for a non account holder because their limit is $2,500 (according to them). And even if you open an account with them, they claim they can only deposit not cash the check even though they are the financial institution who was holding the money, issued the check and Driveo held a business account with them. That really didn't make sense to me but it is what it is. I wasn't going to argue with them. I try to pick and choose my battles wisely. Work smarter not harder. So I tried Money Tree. The fee was approximately $300 for a $6,000 check. And they verified and cashed the check. And I was able to go purchase what I had been saving for instead of losing it. read more

Wow, I couldn't even get thru that first review, but they must have really ticked him off to write such a long review on MoneyTree in Lemon Grove. I never thought I'd find myself writing a review on Moneytree, let alone my first review on Yelp, but my boyfriend said to me tonight: 'why aren't you on Yelp, you seem like you like that sort of thing. He was right, but I've never admitted it to myself. lol I thought about it and immediately opened an account. It just so happens that we had just got home from MoneyTree in Lemon Grove. The only reason we were there to begin with is because WalMart wouldn't cash a perfectly good check from North Island Credit Union. I opened the door and the lady immediately greeted me, was friendly, cashed my check and I was out the door in less than 5 minutes. What more could you ask for? I went into this place at 1:58, granted, they closed at 2 but I got there in time. I drove all the way from Jamul. After the customer in front of me was done, I stepped up to the clerks window and I asked her if they cashed personal checks, (I didn't know, this was my first time not using my bank because they were closed for the holiday weekend.) she rudely say "ya, but were closed now, sorry" and I asked her very nicely if she could cash the check as I needed the money right away. And she again, said "no, we're closed now, you have to leave" and held an extremely nasty tone with me. She had long blonde hair, probably about 50, and had nasty yellow teeth. I will never be returning to this place if I ever need to again. I went across the street to the other check-cashing place and was treated amazing! Never go here. Rude employees who every clearly don't want to do their job, and just want to get off of work. If the employer is reading this, you need to do more customer service training. And also let your employees know that it is in fact ILLEGAL to turn a customer away if they were present before closing time. read more

Money tree helped me when I was in desperate need for money without question. The staff are friendly and non-judgemental.

I have been a customer at this location for a long time and they always helped me out in the past. I never had a problem. I called the day before my loan was due to ask for an extension. The lady I spoke to said she would extend it for three days. Okay no problem. I called back two days later to speak to someone about my extension, and they tell me they had already sent my check to the bank yesterday. That means they never gave me the extension, but instead went and cashed the check anyway. Now I have an overdraft fee, on top of what I still owe Moneytree. Really just poor customer service. Not sure if the lady I spoke to was new and did not know how to do her job, but making mistakes like this isn't good for business. This is exactly how you lose customers. Moneytree needs to retrain their staff, or fire the individual for doing something so stupid as this. read more

This was definitely the worse customer service I've ever had! Not only at Money Tree...anywhere. First of all most of my life I've spent in customer service and I think all businesses should be based on "Customer Service". My complaints are about not only about 1 employee but 3, including the supposed manager. all within the same two visits within 1 hour. I am a Holistic Health Practitioner and I have my own practice, so I receive my compensation via cash, and personal checks direct or as an independent contractor. I have two bank accounts both with credit unions but I have recently rediscovered money tree since I do ocassionally get paid after hours or on weekends when I can't get to the bank. So far I've used it about 4 times and it hasn't been such a big deal, but today was an absolute nightmare of the worst customer service kind. I'll try to make this as short as possible: Today was Saturday and I received a 3 digit paycheck from work (as independent contractor) from my work. Since it was about 2:30pm I decided to go to Money Tree in Lemon Grove by my house being 4th of July weekend the bank won't be open until Tuesday. JANE was the first person to help me. She took my checks and asked me a few questions. Have I cashed that check there before, I said yes, she asked for my bosses phone number and I gave it to her. She then realized the check wasnt signed (mistake on my side-I get it-no finger pointing) so of course this is not their problem so I said ok thanks, drove all the way across town (20 mins) unfortunately had to bother my boss, got it signed, and drove alllll the way back within an hour. When I get back I had a very rude, smug teller named KARLA who decided to be very condescending to me as soon as I gave her my information. The first question she asked me was when was the last time I tried to cash the check I told her within the hour, I told what had happened earlier and told her I went all the way across town to get it signed and came back here specifically so I wouldn't have any problems. WRONG!! She treated me with nothing but suspicion and smug remarks. Quite honestly she should have just asked me if I went outside and signed it myself, it's the way she acted. It gets worse. She asked me for my bosses phone number and I told her it was on file I had given it to JANE an ahour earlier, I asked if JANE was there because she helped me earlier maybe she could help. I didn't see JANE when I first came back at the window and still didn't. KARLA said she was going to have to go to the back and get it approved by a manager. She came back and said she was going to have to call my boss AFTER ALL THIS SHE SAYS THIS: after talking to my boss, 45 min of driving to get his signature, and now back here she said she had to call him. ON TOP OF THAT SHE TELLS ME THAT JANE SAID I NEVER GAVE HER THE PHONE NUMBER A FLAT OUT LIE, NOT TO MENTION THAT MEANS SHE'S IN THE BACK ROOM AND NOT COMING TO HELP. SHE ALSO SAYS THAT THE TWO MANAGERS ARE TOO BUSY TO COME ADDRESS THE SITUATION. When I had seen and spoken to my boss earlier he was on his way out, I don't know where but he was leaving work and had a few minutes to meet me and sign my check. KARLA again asks for the number and as I'm speaking gives me more attitude and and gets rude by saying "...gimme the number" cutting me off in in a very unprofessionalway as if I'm either lying or getting on her nerves. She then says then next twenty minutes, were torture. She called and didn't leave a message like my boss is psychic or like I don't need this money TODAY or THIS WEEKEND for that matter, an just gives an oh well attitude. I felt like I was dealing with a child or like I was dealing with an immature and catty teenager. I had to tell her to call and leave a message 3 times!!!! and she even called a second time and still didn't leave a message!!! She continues (after ten minutes) to tell me that the managers are too busy to see me. Really?? at Money tree in Lemon Grove??? Not to mention that liar JANE is still hiding out in the back. KARLA then tells me I can have a seat and wait or they could hold my check... HELL NO, it's bad enough she's held it hostage "until my boss calls" on the other side of the glass window. After at least 15-20 mins. she tells me that the guy standing next to her helping someone is the supposed manager!!!!! JOHNNY. JOHNNY leans over towards her never asking a question, never saying a word this whole after helping the same client since before I came up and said "We're going to have to wait for a call". He was absolutely no help... not only that he didn't even try to help or ask whats going on or anything he just supported her poor customer service which he would have caught it he was really doing multiple transactions wiwth one client and listening at the same time. I REFUSED TO BE PUSHED ASIDE AND MADE TO SIT DOWN WHEN NO ONE WAS LISTENING TO ME OR TAKING RESPONSIBILTY FOR NOT GIVING ME THE RIGHT INFO!!! read more
