I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is drowning in their debt as I was! I have been a client for just over 2 years now. They worked with me to consolidate all of my debt (over $25k) and put it into the orderly payment of debts program. I wish I had known of this program earlier in life but at least I found out about it. Period. The payments are super easy to make online through my bank and my account manager was able to work with me in times of need when I just couldn't make that monthly payment. You pay a monthly disbursement fee with them, but as long as you are on time with your payments and attend (I think a minimum of 3) financial classes by the end of your program, you get ALL of the fee returned to you. So it's kind of like they are saving you a little "gift" for paying off all of your debt. I think that I am about 1/2 way through my program and getting things paid off. Not there yet, but no longer feel like I am drowning and I find it very refreshing to login into my profile from time to time and see EXACTLY how much money I have paid off on my debts and just how far I have come. Money Mentors helped me with debt consolidation advice when I thought I was going to have to declare bankruptcy. Instead of bankruptcy I was able to do the Orderly Payment of Debts program which let me consolidate my debts, negotiate some of the terms of my loans and make it so I paid all the people I owed with only one monthly payment which was great because then I didn't have to pick and choose who I was actually going to pay that month (I couldn't afford all of them!). They also helped me set a budget so I don't get deeper in debt and they also said that once I'm back on my feet I'll be able to do some investing which is pretty cool too. Warning! They had a program to consolidate my debt, and help me avoid bankruptcy. When I asked what the fees were, they said that the creditors pay it. More specifically, they charge me 25% more than what I owe, and keep most of it. When I asked some other companies what they do, they had other options, like negotiation, lowered payments, zero interest. I think the OPD program, their only program, was regarded as the worst program by the competitors, and that the creditors lobbied Alberta to create it. The creditors also get an automatic judgement when I sign up. I can see why my bank sent me here, they will get all their money back. I chose not to sign up when I found out they have a debt collectors license. read more
