She taught such an empowering curriculum that made me feel so confident in the choices I had made for my birth plan. I truly feel the education she gave us allowed me to advocate for the birth I wanted. She went above and beyond to provide information as different issues came up in my pregnancy, allowing me to make truly informed decisions that I was totally comfortable with. At a week past my due date, the hospital forced me to schedule an induction and Lynette was the first person I contacted (after a good cry). She helped me to consider all my options and at the end of the day, helped me transfer care to a birth center that would honor my choice to wait as long as was medically safe for baby to come. She attended my birth as a student midwife, and was a strong steady presence through the transition and pushing phases of my labor. She is calm and encouraging during birth and I felt safe and powerful as I brought my son into the world. I tell people giving birth is the most empowering thing I've ever done, and Lynette was a big part of making that my reality. I'm so thankful for her.

We would highly recommend the Bridge Birth Center!

I highly recommended to any mama and partner to take these classes, they are well worth it! Also, her tea blend for the raspberry leaf tea is so yummy! Especially if you aren't an avid tea drinker. The classes are built in a great order- As someone who plans to birth at a birth center my anxieties were lowered ALOT after these classes. I had a hard time asking/accepting help with my first kid. I kept telling myself that we could do it, we could do it all because every parent goes through what we're going through. It was kind of like a right of passage to suffer. But, I suffered greatly without the help. I developed postpartum depression that I didn't realize I had until after the fact, and I was overwhelmed with going from no kids to having an infant with colic. On top of that, I was healing and learning to breastfeed/pump and dealing with the expectations of becoming the parent I want to be and the guilt of not giving it my best every day or using formula. Fast forward to 2024 with our 2nd kid and we knew we had to make big changes to survive. My cousin told me she did a night nanny and that blew our minds. We researched and felt that the Baby Nest team resonated with us the most. Their site was easy to navigate. I quickly contacted Sherilee who put me in touch with Sarah D. We then scheduled a meet up and knew we wanted Sarah to be our postpartum doula. She's very professional and has lots of experience with many families including raising her own family of 5. She was very transparent about her schedule with other clients during the time frame we needed her. We booked eight weeks of 4 nights with Sarah. Since she couldn't do all four nights, we had other doulas in their network: Kimmi, Lakiah, and Mel. ALL of them have been wonderful, knowledgeable, empathetic, and professional. We've never felt judged for our decisions in caring for our newborn. They are so good and trustworthy with our baby; we never had to worry. They take detailed notes of their shifts and shared it with Google doc. I recommend all of these people if you're looking for a solid team of doulas. Specifically Sarah:She has excellent communication and very trustworthy. It is so easy to connect with her. I am very thankful she could not only watch our son but also take care of our dishes and make us breakfast that would last about a week! If you're a first time parent or continuing to grow your family and on the fence about a night nanny/postpartum doula, contact Sherilee and check Baby Nest out. When it comes to health and wellness, this service was absolutely worth every penny. THANK YOU, BABY NEST.

And I've sat on this for a couple years but am now compelled to share because my friend has now been also forced into a hospital birth even though her labor was advancing ideally, and now I'm just mad. They seem to have the same "easy button" policy as most hospitals do, and in general that's not why we go seeking out midwives. Alma is corporate midwifery, shoving people through the very gauntlet we have left mainstream medical childbirth to avoid. At the end of it, the individual midwives are lovely--I'm still friends with my midwife to this day--but the company itself treats birthing mothers as the exact same commodity that traditional western hospitals do. If I had it to do again, I would have followed that midwife-assistant to a more personal experience.

The…read moremoment I found out I was pregnant with our first child my number one stress was "where am I going to have this baby?!" I've had bad experiences with hospitals and almost always feel like I'm not being heard as a patient. This is such a HUGE life chapter to go through I really didn't want to be surrounded by strangers making me feel like my voice didn't matter and that birth was some sort of major medical procedure rather than a natural life event. In steps... Alma! Someone had mentioned them to me so my husband and I went and met with Laura who walked us through what a pregnancy and birth with Alma would entail. Wow! It was so refreshing to feel so comfortable and at home in a clinical setting. From day one they made me feel welcome and heard. Another huge blessing about Alma was that from our first appointment they were upfront about what the total cost of having our baby at the birth center would be (permitting there were no complications). I cannot tell you how incredibly refreshing it was to know an amount ahead of time so that we could budget and be prepared. Our baby was born healthy with no issues and I can tell you the price we paid is exactly what they quoted us nine months earlier. What I also loved and appreciated, was for all our check up appointments before our baby arrived we saw one of two midwives and an assistant midwife. And so we knew when our baby came it would be one of those two who would be helping us deliver. It meant so much to me to have grown a relationship of trust and kindness with these women before hand. It made going into labor so much more peaceful and not stressful knowing that I knew and liked the team that was helping me. The birthing suites are just the perfect balance of a medical and home setting. So many people had no idea what I meant when I said we were having our baby had a birth center. So I just told them it's not as cold as a hospital, but it's more medical than a home. It was so inviting and will always hold a special place in my heart. There's so much more I could say, but these are the biggest things of why I am so grateful for Alma and why I can say with confidence...this is where will have all our future children.

My husband and I opted to join their Centering Pregnancy group instead of doing individual appts and I highly recommend it. We were with a group of 5 other couples due around the same time as us that met to discuss pregnancy education and have our regular prenatal visits. This gave us a mini community to celebrate our births and discuss our challenges with. During the prenatal visits, it was clear that every midwife I saw took the time to review my chart ahead of time. They weren't flipping through it while I was in the room. Whenever I brought up an ongoing concern, the midwife doing the exam would pick up where I left off at my last visit. Someone mentioned that the care is not personal -- it might be more personal in the Centering Pregnancy group where you have one midwife who teaches the whole course and a couple others who will step in occasionally. But honestly, the midwives here are all incredible. Every one I interacted with had a different vibe and approach, and ultimately, they are all incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and respectful of your decisions. There was one midwife who I didn't click with and she ended up being our delivery midwife during an intense and fast labor that led to an unplanned c section. She held my hands through some of the most difficult moments and gave me strength to keep going. My husband and doula were huge supports but she helped me through my most vulnerable moments. That's just to say -- if you have a prenatal visit with a midwife you're not thrilled with, trust that they know what they are doing and are there to support you through labor and delivery. After having my baby, I wish that I could still have monthly regular visits with the midwives -- they were a huge comfort throughout the entire pregnancy and delivery. I can't recommend them enough.

I first chose The Vancouver Clinic because it was close to my home. I specifically wanted a…read moremidwife, and I researched which ones were recommended. At my first appointment, I was pressured into trying Centering Pregnancy--a group meeting 1-2x/mo for prenatal treatment. I figured it may be a good way to meet people, so I agreed. The meetings are 2 hours long. You spend the first 30-40 min weighing yourself, taking your blood pressure, and sitting around while everyone gets their individual time (2-3 min) with the midwife for heart rate check and any questions. Once everyone is checked, you have to do some lame ice breaker (this continued for EVERY session). It's not until the last 30 min or so you actually get to the topic at hand. Even then, the group often gets side tracked and nothing gets covered. Not that the topics are all that useful--for example what to eat and not eat during pregnancy--doesn't everyone already know that? I don't feel like I learned anything useful the entire time. After the first 2 visits, I knew it wasn't for me, but I kept telling myself it would get better. For some reason, I stayed til the end. Since there are so many midwives at TVC, you will most likely never get the midwife you signed up for, let alone one you've met. What is the point of choosing a provider if they aren't with me throughout my whole pregnancy? During the course of my hospital stay I saw 4 different midwives, none of which were the one from Centering. Overall, I felt the TVC midwives were a lot more doctor-like than other midwives I've seen. They seemed to be really into medical intervention when it wasn't really needed, and not so into alternative, natural methods. During my labor I really wanted a water birth (including actual delivery), but they kept saying, "the point is not to give birth in the water, it's just a tool!" Well I wanted to deliver my first child using that "tool," if I did, I may not have tore in 2 places requiring stitches. When I had to get out of the tub to check my dilation, I was TIRED. My midwife should have encouraged me to get back in for the last hour, instead of acting like it'd be such a burden to heat the water back up. I suppose in the end, all that matters is a healthy baby, but I will never be able to have a first birth experience again, and I wish I had a provider that was more encouraging (or heck, one that KNEW me). Even though I met some people that I still enjoy keeping in touch with, I really don't recommend Centering for most people. TVC midwives are just ok, so if you do go there, pick one and stay with her for individual appointments. For the next child, I will definitely be going elsewhere, where I know I will get one-to-one care with someone who will be with me the entire pregnancy.

My husband went to all but two of the appointments and he really enjoyed the program as well. I highly recommend Centering and will definitely be doing the program again when I decide to have another child.
