I love the look of MoModerne. I love that it's at the Foundry. Great place to look while you're waiting for your food to cook or walking around after a movie. The store looks great: the building and the merchandise both. It's well-curated. It's also pricey, and that's OK. You're paying not only for much-desired MCM style here, but a showroom @ the Foundry and also the MoModerne name. Prices are much more reasonable at the estate sales the company manages, though they may sell the greatest of the merchandise here. (I have no knowledge of how it works.) You can find better prices at a few stores around STL and from individuals selling online, but I'll still check out MoModerne when I have the opportunity. read more

I want to share an experience so others can make informed decisions. An item that was mine and original to our home was sold to this business without my knowledge. As soon as I realized what had happened, I contacted the owner, explained the situation, and asked if I could buy the piece back. They did not respond and proceeded to sell the piece for 600% more approximately five hours after my message. The monetary value was never the issue -- I would not have sold the piece under any circumstances. What mattered to me was its history and keeping original elements of our home intact. I understand that businesses are entitled to make their own decisions, and this situation initially stemmed from a mistake on our end. That said, given the circumstances, the lack of response, and the choice to prioritize profit over correcting an honest error, I was disappointed in how this was handled. I'm sharing this solely so others can be aware when deciding who to support and to consider the ethics behind a business owner's actions. read more

They changed the pickup date from the time posted on the sale. They refused to Change pickup time and threatened that I would lose my merchandise if I didn't come when they said. Never again will I buy from them. read more

My daughter and I visited the store today after planning to for some time. The store had lovely & rare MCM items but the rude, uninterested, unfriendly man working there spoiled our visit. We were there for approximately 20-30 minutes--not a greeting, not an offer to assist us, not one word--including good bye because we left with no plans to ever return. It is unfortunate and from the other comments that I see this is pretty standard at this store. read more

Through a friend of mine, Luby and his company were recommended as someone who did estate sales. I needed it done in order to sell my parents house within a window of time, and he and his crew did not disappoint. The entire experience was very positive. I received the check within a couple weeks, as expected. Everything regarding their premium and the costs of extras (e.g. house cleaning post-sale) was explained in detail. We went over how to price certain things, and I took his suggestions for how to market certain items, and he was absolutely right (was about vintage tokens, btw). I've noticed people on here talking a lot about them saying it's too expensive and/or the staff is snobby. I didn't get that impression at all. Highly recommended. read more

I did not like the fact I had to pay a $5.00 service charge to use a debit card to pay st one of their estate sales. I don't carry cash. Never have had to pay. Service fee. I have seen a minimum but I spent $40.... What really irks me is their website states they take credit cards.. does not say anything about having to pay a fee to use it. If they accept cards in the store they already have an account with a bank. This was just wrong. The not that I think about it, the more Zi wish Zi would have walked away with nothing. read more

Just left this sale a short while ago after being thoroughly deceived. I inquired about pricing a small table and the man attending the checkout table sent a worker to price it for me. She established $25 would be good and I accepted her pricing. She marked it with the price and a sold tag. However upon checkout the man at the front table said she was simply wrong and made a mistake. Now he said the new price will be $100. Nice bait and switch tactic. We were on a very tight timeframe and he was prompt in meeting me, and then flexible and accommodating when we realized we'd need to do a private sale instead of a public one due to timing. Not a huge store but has a lot of eye candy. There are no bargains here. This store focuses on high-end MCM furniture. Prices aren't unreasonable, they are just full retail. Compare them to what you'll pay for reproductions of the same items from Design Within Reach. You can certainly find these items for less eventually but if you are willing to spend $$$ in exchange for not having to spend years scouring estate sales for something, this is your place. read more

What a cool place! If you are looking to decorate your home with funky, retro, and quality items, Momodern is the place to go. Great location, unique aesthetic, and some wonderful finds. I give it 4 stars because it was a bit pricey, but I am young and poor so that does not apply to everyone. If you are into retro/contemporary style, this is the place for you and the price won't be as big of a deal. I would still recommend checking the place out, regardless, because it's just plain cool. read more

so i was in st. louis from out of town and came across this shop. i went in and saw a table i liked.i knew something about this table and all i really needed was the price because there was no tag on it. i noticed a man who seemed to work there so i went up to him and i told him i was interested in the table. he asks me which one and i pointed to it and said that it was not priced and that perhaps it was not for sale or had already been sold. he assured me it was for sale to which i then asked the price and he says,''what do you think the price is?''. i could not believe he said this to me but i answered him nonetheless with what i thought was a reasonable price. well, let's just say he wasn't too keen on my answer. after eye-rolling and a little rude laugh he told me that i must be joking and then quoted me a price $200 more than what i had stated. so at this point, after feeling like i'm on this weird ''the price is right'' game show audition, i asked this guy(who i had just assumed was a salesperson) if i could speak to a manager and he tells me that he can do me one better and that i am speaking to lubby, an owner. i could not believe that i had been speaking to an owner all along who never even introduced himself as one. i politely told lubby thank you but that i would pass on buying the table to which he actually says out loud ''well, that was a waste of time for both of us'' and proceeds to walk away. oh...my...god! are you kidding me. i thought i was being punked like on one of those hidden camera shows...but the reality was that this here was a genuine nasty,rude and dismissive fella. later that night at a local bar & restaurant i meant some locals and when i told them about my experience in this store lets just say they were not shocked. so there you go. that was my experience. a very negative one indeed! but one i am now glad i got off of my chest. read more
