The business owner is Dave Adkins. His business seemed legitimate when getting quotes. He had a…read morewhite Chevy Colorado truck with the business name on the door. He asked to put a black, yellow, and white sign in my yard to advertise. We had a painting job for the eaves of our home. The job had a tight deadline because we were selling our home. This was required by the buyers financing company before we could close on the house. He quoted us $700.00 and I agreed to pay half up front ($350.00). He didn't pay paint out of his own pocket which most painters do not. His start date came and he didn't show. In fact he didn't show for several days because it was too hot and humid. When he finally came after numerous calls he worked for about an hour and quit because it was too hot and his helper was sick. I understood and told him that was fine. We discussed starting earlier in the morning when it is not as hot. He called me at 8:45 pm that night and said he found a new helper because this guy needed to be paid daily so he would need $180.00 more from me and would mark the contract as paid in full. The next morning I gave him the $180.00 and he immediately left and cashed my check. He came back but his new helper never showed up. He once again said it was too hot and tomorrow would be better. I gave him the benefit of doubt and he returned the next morning with his helper. I wasn't present to monitor him because I had to return to work but my wife was. He called me at work and requested I give him $250.00 for primer. He said he didn't expect to need it and couldn't afford it. I refused to pay him anymore before washing and scraping was completed. He became angry and said he would handle it. He comes back to my house with a new gravity fed spray painter and unboxes it in my drive way. After 4 hours of work, he had painted about 20 feet of the eaves and started painting my garage door which wasn't part of the project. My wife and I complained telling him that the garage door was not needed and that the eaves were the first priority because of the deadline. He said he was painting them for free and just wanted everything to look nice. After a priority discussion, he said he was leaving for lunch and would return. After a few hours I receive a call that he is not returning to the job because my wife and I insulted him and he isn't dealing with us. I didn't think we said anything harsh to him. He said he would reimburse us but he didn't have the money right now. He said he will meet with me in the morning because he had plenty of jobs that will prepay him so that he can pay me back. I looked up his WV license number on the contract but found no record of him or his business. I can't find anything about him on the internet. I have a bad feeling I am out $530.00 and 4 days of wasted time.
