My child came home very hungry every day, which made me concerned about how much she was eating. I asked for pictures of the meals being served and of her eating, but those requests were not fulfilled. The menu listed dinner, but my experience left me questioning whether she was receiving the meals described.
Sseeing children running around without apparent structured or educational activities, even though pickup was at 6 p.m. She described children climbing, running through the hallway, and bumping into one another despite several staff members being present. She also reported seeing some children offered snacks while others were not, and cleaning products being sprayed around 5:30 p.m. while children were still nearby. These reports raised concerns for me about supervision and safety.
On one occasion, I personally saw a baby sitting on the floor crying while another child, who appeared to be an older sibling, tried to comfort the baby. Staff were walking nearby, but I did not see them respond during the time I was watching. That concerned me.
In my experience, staff communication, television programs, and songs were predominantly in Spanish, with very little English. I welcome my child learning another language and have no objection to a bilingual environment. However, I would have appreciated a balance of English and Spanish, with communication and activities that supported her individual language and developmental needs.
I have since found another daycare run by a psychologist who showed me her credentials and training certificates. She also showed me her assistants' credentials, including their training hours and teaching assistant certifications. She explained her structured preschool program and how she supports children's learning and development. The cost is the same as what I was paying at Little Superheroes.
My advice to other parents is to do your due diligence. Ask to see credentials, certifications, and training documentation for the owner and everyone caring for your child. Ask about meals, supervision, daily activities, and how the program supports children with special needs. I wish I had asked more questions instead of assuming.
I wanted more than babysitting. I wanted a safe, structured environment where my child could learn, grow, and receive support for her individual needs. Based on our experience, I did not feel Little Superheroes provided that. For the same money, I found a program that gives me much greater confidence in my child's care.
