Be prepared I am about to completely nerd out…read more Working in the entertainment industry a large majority wind up jaded and spit out the other end before they even knew what happend. Somewhat similar to waiting tables or working in a record store. Then there are the crazies like myself who at times become bored out of your minds but perpetually look for something either mischievous, mysterious, or even bizarre to keep ourselves preoccupied. In my niche of the industry being concert instrument rental and rehearsals one can find the eclectic and creative in dusty studios, off the radar warehouse spaces, and basements to name a few. Trust me it takes a special someone to understand a 70s amplifier schematic for realistic reasons, perform correct analog tube biasing, and how to rebuild vintage organs that look like furniture. That is exactly what Murph Wanca does at Nashville Pro Hammond (located in the mega complex that is Soundcheck). If you are not sure what a Hammond organ is just think bad to the sultry sounds of Al Green. You know that worbling warm percussive sound that compliments the Rev? That's a Hammond B3 and Leslie speaker cabinet. If you have ever been to one of those happy churches that reville in music you have heard it as well. Rarely made new these days and certainly not to the mastery they were 50 years ago the world has to rely on the beautifully maniacal folks like Murph to rebuild and repair these beasts and perpetuate the art. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet him personally for the first time a few weeks ago while picking up a rebuit organ and leslie for a friend that recently had one destroyed during an infamous stage collapse. Mr Wanca was a calm and personable guy who shared a couple of hours worth of his knowledge with me all the time managing a few phone calls and friends stopping by his clean and organized shop. For those of you in the industry who have made it this far into the review you know that calm/personable/clean describing an engineer and his shop sounds like a lie. Mind you I know very little about organs or keyed instruments as a whole. My skill set on 88 keys stops at Hot Crossed Buns. It was my pleasure to hang out with Murph and to explore the insight and learn a little from the guy who rebuilds and mods Everyones Hammonds and Leslies. Just google him and there are probably similar sentiments on the interwebs. If you need a C3 or B3 and are in the vicinity give him a shout.

They are considered the best violin shop in the area, and service all of the top fiddlers we know and love including Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan and so on. They've always been super kind to me and I've heard nothing but stellar feedback from my clients.

I made an offer via Reverb on a Glasser carbon fiber violin from Nashville Violins, and received a…read morecounteroffer from Dave, the owner, which included $25 for shipping. We came to an agreement and I paid for the instrument on 6/25/18. It was shipped the same day from Nashville via USPS. Unfortunately, for me, the item was shipped USPS Parcel Select (the cheapest and slowest method of delivery). The violin sat in the Nashville USPS distribution center for several days, and then moved onto the USPS distribution center in Memphis for another day. All total, the violin spent three days in Tennessee before it moved on. I contacted Nashville Violins via Reverb's messaging service on June 28, 2018, concerned that it was now three days and the violin had not left Tennessee. Had I known that the store intended to ship the item via Parcel Select (which is what USPS calls their Parcel Post service now) I would never have made the purchase. Twenty-four hours later on the 29th, Dave, the shop owner contacted me via Reverb and explained that he was not in the shop, but was out at a trade show. However, he stated he would check on the status of my purchase. Unfortunately, It is now July 2nd, and no one from Nashville Violins has gotten back to me. The violin spent the past weekend somewhere in Western Massachusetts, and as of this morning it has finally made its way to Maine, but is at least another day from being delivered to our local Post Office. The USPS website states that it is tentatively scheduled to be delivered today, sometime before 8 pm. However, the website is emphatic that this is not a guaranteed delivery date, as they do not guarantee any delivery times on Parcel Select. So here it is, a week later, and no violin. While carbon fiber instruments are more durable than their wood counterparts, they are still susceptible to heat (and melting) and the soundpost and bridge are both made of wood (and susceptible to warping in extreme heat). Sadly, as of this morning I still have not heard from anyone at Nashville Violins. My issue with Nashville Violins is both their poor choice of shipping methods, as well as their terrible customer service. Communication with them is virtually non-existent, trade show or not. Over the last several decades I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on musical instruments, and have purchased and sold countless guitars and mandolins throughout these years. While I am fairly new to the violin world, I would think that small businesses of this kind would all operate in the same manner. It appears that they do not. Yes, $25 for shipping is not a lot, but at least warn your customers that you are sending their item via a slow boat, which might have some pitfalls. I would have gladly paid more for shipping to have had the violin shipped via UPS ground, which would have been to me in three days. Shame on me for taking them up on the "Make an Offer" option instead of picking up the phone and working out details. I will forever remember this horror story. I've learned my lesson, and no, if you hadn't already gleaned this from my review, I would not do business with Nashville Violins again, or recommend them to anyone.

My…read morefavorite hippy décor for any place that surrounds selling instruments; there were oriental rugs of all different patterns covering the wood floors; and the furniture they had for people to sit and test the instruments paired nicely into shabby chic. These two elements were the only organic entities that brought a sense of charm to this business. Old Time Pickin' Parlor was a far cry from anything that the name would lend itself to. I could tell right away that the people who ran the joint were ready for us to leave as soon as my friend and I walked in. I don't know if they were high on weed and tweaked out or what. All I know is that they barely mumbled a "hello," to greet us; and they practically slammed the door to their in-house recording studio as soon as we passed it walking in. I understand that this kind of equipment is expensive, but clearly we don't look like teens and therefore we're not going to assume that it's there for us to play with; much less think anything in there is for sale. I caught the clerks constantly shifting their eyes back and forth at each other, and they weren't smiling; rather, they were concerned. Did you honestly think we were going to break something or steal? Both of them stood there with their hands in their pockets making no effort to try to talk to us regarding what their shop was about; much less where the name for their business comes from. I could tell the product they had was not just stuff they ordered from a distribution center. Therefore I could only assume the product was expensive. Perhaps the instruments had previous owners, well-known in the industry. They could have at least shared the stories surrounding how they came into possession of their obviously coveted collection. I wouldn't recommend visiting this place unless you were some kind of over-entitled trust fund baby, with a narcissistic hipster attitude, ready to blow your parents' money. I think these guys feel like they shouldn't have to talk to you unless you weigh in starting at this point. I'd love to see the quality of their elevated customer service when concerning a potential buyer. Perhaps had they extended such an inviting attitude and not made assumptions regarding whom my friend and I were; then maybe I would have had a better review to write. Sorry guys, you deserve it. Especially when you're right next to a shop that's part of a major TV Network show. You are going to get clients from all walks of life. If you're burnt out, then you need to sell your shop to someone who can handle the general customer traffic.
