I was recently admitted to Sutter Memorial after an ER visit for a broken leg. Surgery was required…read moreto properly set the bone. I want to begin by saying that the medical teams who treated my injury were exceptional--ER staff, the surgeon, anesthesiologist, surgical team, and floor nurses all provided excellent care and bedside manner. Unfortunately, the case management and administrative follow‑up were the opposite: disorganized, dismissive, and lacking compassion. After the case manager's third visit, I requested reassignment because of repeated issues. During her first visit--less than a day after surgery and my first PT session--she abruptly announced she was ordering equipment. I had already discussed choosing a wheelchair with PT (insurance covers only one item), but when I tried to explain this, she cut me off and repeated, "Insurance will only cover one." When I attempted to tell her about the steps at my home and the need for a ramp, she again interrupted and said, "Insurance won't cover that, you're on your own," offering no resources or guidance. Later, while I was on the phone trying to locate a ramp myself, she stood in my room sighing and rolling her eyes. She then told me I had been discharged--even though my nurse had just started an IV for low vitamin levels, I still had two doses left, the equipment she ordered hadn't arrived, and I still had no safe way to enter my home. When she asked if I had walked yet, I reminded her I was non‑weight‑bearing for at least two months. She then asked if I had Medicare, which I do not--another sign she hadn't reviewed my chart. I told her directly that her approach felt rude, rushed, and unsafe, and asked for a different case manager. Hours later, I learned the pharmacy couldn't fill my medication because it required prior authorization. When I called the operator asking for a patient advocate, I was transferred to a non‑working extension. After calling back and explaining the urgency, I was sent to the second case manager. She cut me off immediately, said she had "just received the information," and submitted the authorization but refused to follow up to ensure it went through. When I mentioned that home health also lacked prior authorization, she admitted it hadn't been done yet. She did not address my concerns about the first case manager and abruptly ended the call. In the days since, I have repeatedly tried to reach a patient advocate. Neither the hospital operator nor the main Sutter line could provide a working number. When the operator attempted to transfer me to her manager, the call went to voicemail and disconnected mid‑message. The medical teams make Sutter look excellent, but case management and administrative systems make patients feel abandoned. These failures matter--especially when patients are in pain, scared, and relying on the hospital to ensure safe discharge planning. When healthcare systems make it this difficult to advocate for ourselves, it discourages people from seeking care at all. Sutter needs to do better. Kaiser, in my experience, is far ahead in efficiency and patient support. As one example, I was told it would take five months to see an endocrinologist for a serious genetic condition--whereas with Kaiser, specialist appointments took only a few days.

I normally don't leave reviews, but this really concerned me…read more I've been to the Sutter ER three days in a row and each visit I notified staff/security that there was visible dried blood on the women's restroom door. Three days later it was still there. For a hospital -- especially one caring for pregnant and postpartum patients -- that's not just unpleasant, it's a sanitation and infection-control issue. The medical staff I interacted with were polite, but the cleanliness and follow-through were honestly disappointing. I hope management addresses housekeeping and patient safety concerns because this shouldn't require multiple reports from patients to get cleaned.

Well to be honest they were quick to take her in to be actually seen by the doctor and they did all their tests but they sent back out in the main waiting area while she's still in major pain and needs to run to the restroom every half hour and they couldn't give her a bed like she flipping needs when we got here now over 5 hours ago?! So ya I'm ranting but for her and this kind of disappearing act and not treating her promptly which by the way the main ER waiting room only had 4 people in there and the back had hardly anybody and this was on Sunday morning at 8am to start with and this situation reminds me of how in Bay Area back in the 70's and 80's of how bad it was then but the ER rooms were flooded with all kinds of people waiting unlike here that even 5+ hours later there's only no more than 9 people waiting that are behind us waiting so tell me what in Sam Hill is going on in Modesto and I've been a Kaiser member for over 40 years as my wife and this is just Ludachris !!!!!!! I see a lot of the reviews, and I can sympathize with you for not getting the best care. Before I…read morecame to Golden Valley, I was already a high-risk pregnancy based on my last two pregnancies (one lost baby at 5 months pregnant and one living child who is 6 now). My previous doctor at the beginning of this last pregnancy did not take the time to give me my ultrasounds on time, refer me to a specialist, or even make sure that my labs were all done. By the time I got to Golden Valley, the nurse practitioners were super on top of it with all of my labs and appointments, unfortunately my gestational diabetes had turned into type two diabetes because it was unmanaged and no labs were done. I had no idea. I was referred to a high-risk ultrasound specialist right away, had appointments every two weeks, had labs being done constantly, and referred to a diabetes specialist in the office once a week. So 3 appointments a week, my diabetes specialist, changed it to phone appointments so I didn't have to travel from Turlock to Modesto three times a week and some weeks even four times when I had my high-risk ultrasound appointments in Modesto as well, at Modesto Perinatal. They got me the proper care to manage my type two diabetes during my pregnancy with high intensity insulin treatment and diet control. I didn't have a consistent doctor, I was being juggled around by multiple doctors, but I totally understand because other women are having babies across the street and emergencies happen. They're doctors... Plus, I got really familiar with the medical assistants especially with all the NST appointments I had. Already having a high energy 6yr old, when I was hooked up to the NST machines and my daughter needed to be entertained or even just go to the bathroom, the girls helped me out. Even a doctor walking by when my daughter was having a tantrum being tired and tired of being at these appointments towards the end, helped me out and calmed her down. My only complaint would be my labor and delivery experience. I was scheduled for an induction at 38 due to being high risk as well as the gestational/Type 2 diabetes. They began the induction process, which was totally fine. They said it was gonna take awhile because it's a process (I've been induced before). However, I had already been in labor for 48+ hours and Dr. McLaughlin had ordered the nurses to keep going, even though I wasn't dilating anymore (only to 5) my cervix wasn't opening up. I had five cervix checks, so so painful. No progress. I had kept asking how much longer, because I was in so much pain. The nurse that I had before going into my C-section, was an angel. She told me I'm going to put in for your epidural now because someone else is going to request for one and then it will take forever. There had been a shift change in doctors, THANK GOD for Dr. Stanford because after 60+ hours of hard labor, he came in and said you're still here? (he was the doctor I met on the first day), How do you feel about a C-section? I don't think that there's anything else we can do for you you've been here too long, I don't want you to keep going. Within 30 minutes, I was already prepped and ready to go, Dr. Stanford and the staff that performed my C-section that evening at 7:33 PM made me feel so safe and well taken care of. This was my first C-section, I was shaking so bad from the drugs, and having a lot of anxiety. The anesthesiologist that was taking care of me during my C-section, was rubbing my head and told me don't worry we're gonna get Daddy in here in a few minutes Mama. He told me, if at any point, you feel uncomfortable or feel any sensation, I will give you something right away, you just let me know. Everyone in the room was laughing and having conversation, it was overall a great ending experience. Dr. Lee was the doctor that came to check on me after my C-section, I had already been familiar with him because I have had an NST appointment with him right before my induction, super calm and super cool doctor. Instead of the three days they want to keep you there after a c-section, I asked to leave on the second day. At this point, I already had been in the hospital at five days. He said okay, if you feel up to it, everything looks good and baby looks good, I'll put it in. But if you change your mind, that's okay too. Overall, I've gotten attentive medical care. Of course there's delays because there's so many appointments, but Golden Valley really tries to fit you in, which is probably overwhelming to them because of the lack of staff. They do have good intentions though. I will say that , sometimes the wait time is a little ridiculous especially when you have somewhere to be after or pick up your kids at a certain time.

Side note so thankful my daughter will be under my husband's insurance so she will never have to be neglected by this health center. Disgusting. Find anywhere else future mothers to be!
