Be careful doing business with Moctezuma Appliances if my experience is typical. I have a major problem with Moctezuma Appliances - I can't trust them. Several weeks ago, my wife and I bought a hind quarter of beef: $500! The day that I picked it up and brought it home, our freezer went out. I checked 15-20 places in Houston and could not find a new upright freezer that I could pick up that day, so I looked for a used freezer and found Moctezuma Appliances. Paid $300 and took it home, but I also asked them about repairing my freezer: "It is over 20 years old, and I am not sure it is worth it. Could you evaluate it and tell me if it is worth repairing?" They were sure that they could repair it and that it was certainly worth doing, so when they were ready, I paid $195 and took it home. Since this was a much larger freezer, we loaded everything into it (hindquarter of beef and other stuff) and took the smaller freezer to our home in East TX. A neighbor called us while we were away. The freezer had died and blood, water and "whatever else" was leaking out of the freezer. We lost the $500 worth of beef plus everything else that was in the freezer. Over $1,000 total. When I called Moctezuma Appliances, they said that they had no responsibility except to repair the freezer again. My problem is that the freezer did not even last 3 weeks and the problem was the same one: a leak in the coils. Their carelessness cost me over $1,000! And their only response was that the laws did not require them to do anything more than fix it again. I want to do business with people who care for their customers, not just what the law requires. The only business I will have with Moctezuma Appliances in the future is to have this freezer repaired as many times as necessary. If I could give them no stars I would. This company and it's employees are scam artist. I have purchased 3 items from them and in less than a year they've come out at least 4 times for the broken equipment. On top of what I paid over $800 for the appliances I have had to pay $45 additional everytime they send someone to come out. This is not including parts and labor for whatever needs to be fixed. Whether they fix the issue or not you still have to pay the $45. The women on the phone could careless about the issues. This company is absolutely horrible. We just moved here from California and our landlord trusted these scam artists to install a used gas stove. The 1st one had cracked lines and a gas leak that actually CAUGHT FIRE. They brought a second one that the broiler was stuck on and cycling every 5 minutes. When they attempted to bring another one last night at 8pm, it was the first one they'd brought out (yes, the one that caught on fire and leaked gas) and blamed us for breaking it to start with. My husband literally had to call police to get them to leave. I have nothing good to report on this company. It was hesitant at first but purchased a fridge from them with solace that I was given a 90 day warranty and free delivery. I was even given an additional 90 days beyond that to make me feel comfortable with the product I was purchasing. Upon delivery, I noticed the fridge was more damaged than was described. When I inquired about the kick plate that goes at the bottom I was told it didn't come with one. I called obviously upset with what was presented and was told I could only get store credit and that they would deduct $100 from my purchase price for the cost of delivery. But prior to the purchase this delivery was apparently free. They also told me I could pick out another item, but they would again charge me $100 for delivery. The gentlemen were unable to connect the fridge to a waterline that day because they claimed I had a leak. I repaired my leak and had someone connect it to the fridge and found that tubes coming from the fridge itself was leaking. Upon calling to request that they replace this and deliver a kick plate I was given the run around. They scheduled and canceled my appointment on two occasions. Finally the day came and they told me that they would arrive between 10 and 2. I asked for a shorter window so that I could run errands as it was my only day off. I maintained constant communication with the lady at the store who told me head home at 3:30 because the men were twenty minutes away. I reached my home within 25 minutes to find that a random kick plate was left at my door. Upon calling Sara, the receptionist, she was surprised to find that the men were not there and did not try to reach out. I again tried to schedule another day for them to come. Upon trying to confirm this i was told that this was never scheduled and the men said they waited twenty minutes. While I helped her calculate the minutes in between our two conversations to show her that there was no way that this was possible she maintained that this was the case. After they avoided my calls several times I was finally able to reach Sonya who deals with the warranties. Prior to this I made many attempts to speak to a manager that was never available and never returned my calls. After speaking to Sonya, I finally got a response the following day stating that the owner would not be sending someone out and it would be $125 to make repairs because "I had rescheduled three times." I informed her that the product was defective, I have only had it a month, it was never connected, and that the rescheduling happened on behalf of her company. This last time I bought the wrong size refrigerator (my fault) found this out when the refrigerator was actually delivered. Absolutely a scam! I paid for a refrigerator with a 90 day warranty. Within 60 days they came out 3 times said they got it working again, 2 days later it was dead again. I called a real appliance company to come for a second opinion and they said the entire cooling system was fried and the compressor was shot! Woah. Buyer beware! Moctezuma Appliances are practically riding the line of an illegal bracket. They "re-furbish" appliances, and sell the lemons as new and functional. After we recently purchased a fridge from them, it was only a matter of days before it wasn't working. I had to call them out on three separate occasions (and two incidents of having to throw away a full fridges worth of rotten food) within the first 10 days to attempt to fix our new purchase. After the third failed attempt to repair the fridge, the owner honestly told my husband and I to "sue him" as he couldn't care less about the issue, and it was our problem being an "as-is"purchase. In all my years as a consumer, I have never seen such a lack of integrity and complete disregard from a business owner towards his customers. A strong word of caution: you're rolling the dice when you shop here, and will ultimately have no recourse should anything go wrong with your purchase. I'm surprised this place only has 1 star from most people. I bought my dryer from them about 7 months ago and have had no problems. Plus the experience was easy and the owner was so helpful.
