Dr. Brandon is a legend. I've been seeing him for a few years and he has helped me recover from multiple injuries, as well as prevent injuries from getting worse. He is extremely knowledgeable about anatomy and does a great job explaining his diagnosis as well as how he plans to treat it. I first started seeing Dr. B 7 years ago. I had a mtn bike crash 3 years earlier that left my neck a creaky painful mess. He actually fixed my neck and shoulder that flared up afterwards. After a couple months of 1-2 visits per week, I was able to live pain free and stopped going. For the next 7 years, I would visit a different chiro my new insurance covered only once every 3-6 months. Life was good. No major injuries for 7 years! 5 weeks ago I bulged 3 discs in my back, as a result of overuse and then picking up a piece of trash the "wrong" way. I was bed ridden and then started to recover with muscle relaxers from urgent care and my doc. I tried some simple yoga and massage, but then it got worse and I was again bed ridden and sent back to urgent care (for more pills!). Lets just say I was 3 weeks into painful spasm attacks, very limited mobility, 2 kids, full time job, etc. The PT my insurance covered had started but was very light duty results were minimal. The day after I started PT, I went to see DR. B, in the big class A RV on Natural Bridges Drive. Dr. B told me what movements I should avoid, and re-activated some muscles that weren't firing with a few different chiro gadgets exercises and stretches. I walked out of there WAY better than I thought. I'm now 4 visits in over a few weeks, and am feeling much better. No more painful spasm attacks, I'm walking straight and just started riding my bike. Dr. Brandon Thomas makes magic! Growing up, my parents always bad talked chiropractic work, so I never believed it was a good thing. But then a Santa Cruz derby girl friend told me about Dr.Thomas and I gave it a shot. I walked in with back pain so bad I couldn't even put my own socks on or sit down. I've experienced discomfort from neck and shoulder pain for as long as I can remember. My days mostly consist of working at my desk and the continuous, repetitive motions really take a toll. Dr. Brandon is amazing. Not only is he a chiropractor, he is also a licensed Physical Therapist. I partially dislocated my shoulder and was in so much pain. I couldn't get in to Orthopedics or PT as quickly as I wanted, but I reached out to Dr. Brandon and he got me in the SAME DAY. It was painful, but the next morning I woke up feeling so much better. I have now seen him about 7 or 8 times (maybe more?) and, together with my at-home PT exercises, I am almost back to 100% after 6 weeks - something I never thought possible. However, I attribute most of my healing to him. He explains everything in detail, prepares superbills for submission to insurance, and is just an all around nice person. Brandon makes it possible for me to live my life! Seriously. I'm 34. I rock climb, and play softball and soccer. A lot. I also teach full-time (math and PE) and have to be on my feet and able-bodied all day everyday. Until I started seeing Brandon, I did it all and just sort of "dealt with" low-level pain, mostly in my lower back from a 2008 car accident that herniated a disc or two in my lower back. Any major(ish) collision during a softball or soccer game, or a little tweak while rock-climbing would take me out for a month or more. I saw a couple of chiros in there somewhere, and they were "good" - they would sort of sometimes ease my pain for a day or so - but the constant low-level pain was always still there, and I had still had long recovery times. Then I got referred to Brandon. I started seeing him for a weird pain in my foot. He diagnosed and got me some orthotic inserts. The pain stopped. Then he started in on the lower back stuff. It's pretty much gone (except for flare ups here and there when I hurt myself playing). When I get injured and my lower back goes out, Brandon usually get me going again a few days later. The treatments combined with the strengthening exercises have made my low-back pain SO much better. He also treated me for an ankle sprain and ankle-bone spur pain, and for shoulder strains from climbing and softball. Brandon is by far the best chiro/sports medicine doc I've been to. I have been seeing Brandon for about three years now and I don't even live in Santa Cruz - I make a point to see him when I'm in town. I have lived in San Diego, New York City, San Francisco and Santa Cruz and saw a chiro consistently in each place (since age 7) - Brandon is definitely at the top of my list. In the past we worked on my orbital bone fracture, neck issues, low back (I'm active and always have something going on). Most recently he's been helping me with a hamstring injury - after one session I was able to start running again - I saw a pt and acupuncturist for weeks and Brandon was the only person show offered me improvement. He uses a variety of modalities and I'm alway impressed with his ongoing education and new techniques. Most importantly, he understands functional movement and how to get you back out to your activities pain free...and he gets to the point so you can get the most from your hour. The last time I saw him he used the Marc Pro and some tool called Faktor Grasten (don't know the exact spelling), and did a lot of myofascial release and active release. Awesome guy and an even better doctor! A bit about me, I dance around 6-10 hrs a week and [used to] do heavy squats with 115 as my working set. I'm 21, so normally youthful and spry until one very unfortunate day I literally bent over and blew out my back while washing my car. I had two performances coming up like two weeks away too! Came to Brandon and turns out my silly self was lifting wrong and tucked my butt too much and misaligned my pelvis and inflamed the left side of my back. Some muscle called a QL. I could hardly walk. It was whack I was like hobbling everywhere But Dr. Thomas put the hittaz on em and got me to where I needed to be!! He has this tingly machine thingie that relaxes inflamed muscles and knows exactly what "homework" to give you too! He has all these gadgets and stuff so he's legit don't worry you'll be in good hands. Awesome massage work, chiropractic stuffs, and helped me with my neck that I didn't even know was jacked up sksnksnskdj. Oh and he doesn't crack your back hella hard but like just the right amount. He didn't just heal me but also kept me aware of what was happening with my body. He was good at it too bc I'm no good at science really I was able to dance (with some dull pain) within two weeks. Dr. Brandon literally saved my Hawaiian vacation (and my knee)!!! I came to see Dr. Brandon after I sprained my ankle in the ocean and started having a really bad flare up of knee pain that's been plaguing me for a few years now. As a professional acrobat, dancer and certified personal trainer, I'm pretty picky about who I work with on body issues, but Dr. Brandon came with incredibly enthusiastic recommendations, so I decided to go see him. In the first session he clearly diagnosed a torn meniscus and instantly started working on helping me heal. He worked through multiple modalities, some that I was familiar with, and a few that were brand new to me. Dr. Brandon's knowledge and intelligence in his field are off the charts and I felt like I was in better hands (excuse the pun...) with him than anyone I've worked with for years. I saw Dr. Thomas for a nagging, painful shoulder issue that was preventing me from surfing or working out hard, and he fixed it. He used a combination of electrical muscle stimulation (e-stim), skeletal adjustments, active release, graston technique, deep tissue massage, and prescribed stretches/strengthening/stabilizing exercises. And the results speak for themselves! My shoulder has been working good for me ever since. It probably helps that I continue to exercise (still doing the lat pull-downs, Branden) and stretch. I did get a little over-exuberant with my renewed shoulder health, and wound up straining my lower back from going too low while doing dumbbell squats. He worked on that too, but I ran out of preventative/maintenance visits on my insurance before that injury was fully healed. (Not to get off track ,but my girlfriend (now fiancé!) bought me a back massage session after that, which was brutal but effective. So feeling pretty good now.) read more

I was out of town traveling, no insurance, and was about to head back home on a 9 hour bus trip back home. I have an existing problem with my back, every now and then something will trigger muscles in my back to spasm, and the pain gets pretty bad.
