I walked in and explained what happened. The receptionist with zero empathy or interest robotically informed me there were no appointments today. I asked about emergency situations, to which she replied she didn't think this was an emergency. Excuse me? The other receptionist told her to ask in back. She went to ask in back and came back to say they would see her but charge double the regular fee. For people that are in the business of taking care of animals it really felt like they gave zero shits but were more than happy to extort me during an emergency situation. I went immediately to care first just 2 minutes down the road and they immediately saw me no questions asked and treated the situation with care and concern. I'll update my review on what they charged, regardless I appreciate the care and concern I received from care first. Never again oak heart...more like heart of stone. Also train your receptionist to do better. Update: my dog got a venomous snake bite on her front paw. I'm glad that the quick action and care by care first was able to help us. Now the bill...so they didn't charge us any weird emergency mark up visit fee, but we did incur significant costs in x-rays and ultrasounds before they determined it was a snake bite. We also had overnight care, antibiotic and pain med costs. All in I paid just under $900 for this incident. That's good money oak heart would have made had they treated the situation appropriately. Bad manners and bad business.

After moving to east Raleigh from Cary I had to find a new vet. I think every pet owner can…read morecommiserate when I say this is a big decision. After all, pets are members of our families! After doing extensive research and reading lots of reviews, I chose Quail Corners. I've been taking my kitty to them for 3 years. Before COVID, you'd use separate entrances for cats and dogs. The front desk employees have all been mostly friendly. The exam rooms could use a facelift in terms of new paint, colors, etc. Some reviews have said their services are more expensive than other places. I can't say much about this as I've only used two vets while owning my cat. For me, I feel that I'm paying for quality and knowledgeable service. Quail Corners also has a 24 hour emergency clinic. Currently you drive up, call the number posted, and let them know you've arrived. The vet tech comes out and takes your pet inside. I don't love this, but what can you do right now? I will say they communicate with you a lot once they examine the animal (phone calls) and talk through any treatment options. I didn't feel too left out and in the dark by not going inside. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Jarchow! She seems to be the primary cat vet at the clinic and is so patient and gentle with my furry boy. Dr. Jarchow almost "talks" to them by making a friendly purring sound while examining the cats. She is also the main vet surgeon and has done two rounds of teeth extractions on my kitty. I felt well informed ahead of and after the surgeries, plus she's never seemed annoyed at my calls to ask more questions.

At 7 months I went on vacation leaving the puppy with a dog sitter. The puppy began bleeding and the dog sitter called Quail Corners concerned. She was told the puppy was in her first heat. My puppy died that day. According to the necropsy my puppy died of rat poison and had she been seen may have survived. I called the vet from my trip to ask questions. No one from Quail Corners has contacted me.

Overall I felt they really didnt care much for him and didnt really try to save him. They did do diuresis which did help at first. But when that started to be ineffective dialysis was never brought up to me. It may have been impractical to do but I sure wish we would have discussed it. I feel like I let my dog down by not challenging them more on this and on the last day I just forgot to bring dialysis up - I sure wish they had. He may have been near the end of his life but it seemed like their whole focus was to euthanize him. At the end they had put a hose in his nose making him bleed (without actually using it apparently according to the person who did it) and he looked so miserable and it seemed so hopeless I said ok to euthanize him. I regret that and resent that they didnt just discuss it with me instead of having 4 people gathered around me and him - all of whom were telling me there was no hope. I will not go back there again if I can help it. I am not saying all the people there were bad or anything but nobody honestly cared for my dog the way I wanted them to. I think he may still be alive if handled better - although probably not.
