Today I experienced the worst visit I have ever had. I got there early, 8am appointment was there at 10 of to be safe, first appointment of the day and didn't get started until quarter after because the hygienist Marissa was not ready. I felt extremely uncomfortable with both her conversation topics (complaining about their equipment and talking about their high turnover rates with hygienists) as well as the 20+ minutes of almost being drowned with a water pick while I was told to move my head and neck into extremely uncomfortable positions to make it more convenient for her and make HER more comfortable. I was so uncomfortable, was sprayed multiple times and had her entire hand resting over my eye at one point with skin contact. After 40 minutes of the appointment time she still hadn't started brushing/polishing my teeth and instead was lecturing me on flossing. Again while not actually cleaning my teeth, just sitting there. I said I had no plan to, and just wanted my cleaning done. Again this is 40 minutes in, and I do have a job of my own to get to. She struck my cheek, I am guessing in her mind it was playful, but as someone who was already EXTREMELY uncomfortable at that point it was completely unnecessary and unwarranted. I got up, said I was all set and left. I asked the woman at the front desk if there was a comment card I could complete and she said I could just tell her the problem. Like I said I have a job to get to, so I called on my way there and explained the whole situation as I am doing here. She apologized but said all she could do was make sure the next time I was with a different hygienist. Keep in mind Marissa is already the 4th one I have seen in two years so the odds of that were pretty high anyway. But since there is no other solution, or comment card for the real manager/ owner. Here is it. They would not provide MARISSA's last name, but when I find a NEW dental office, I will be sure to make sure she is not on staff there.

But if you pay for dental insurance, there's no excuse. So, I make an effort to visit the dentist regularly to avoid future complications. As I mentioned, I hate taking time to go to the dentist. But, every time I've visited, it's been quick in-and-out. Their hours are convenient (yay for later appointments to fit my teacher schedule!) Dr. Renaud is incredibly professional yet kind. All staff, from receptionists to dental hygienists, have been helpful, efficient, and super friendly. Their office is clean and cozy. I'd recommend coming here even if you don't live in Riverside because it's next to a delicious Italian deli. And, easy in-and-out parking. So go get those pearly-whites cleaned!

I was told by another patient that they will charge you the rates insurance companies pay if you are poor, but I haven't asked for that myself since I may not be poor enough. If you are poor, it is worth asking (you should speak to your dentist, not the secretaries at the front desk). A friend of mine who was poor was allowed to pay in installments. You can see my difficulty in rating this practice -- it has standard fees which are way too high, but they are willing to offer discounts. How does one rate that? My four-star rating is based on my estimate of the quality of their work. The dental assistants do a great job of cleaning teeth, but the price for a cleaning is now $120. But it takes only 35 minutes to clean your teeth, for which the dental technician is paid about $30 (including benefits), so is that a fair price? It seems to me that if a dental technician is doing it and not the dentist, it should cost less.

It's possible that individual was there and has since left. That being said, I know that Dr. Eager's name is on the business. I am a Quality Assurance professional. If any patient is unhappy with how he or she has been treated at any medical office, ask to speak to the top person. Dr. Eager goes out of her way to ensure that my visits are pain-free. I'm sorry for this gentleman's experience. We're all human, even medical professionals. Bad apples exist everywhere. If you're in pain, ask to speak with Dr. Eager. From a QA perspective, Management needs to know if employees are not meeting patients' needs. There are at least three reasons for this: 1.) The patient needs further care. 2.) There may have been other complaints against the individual. Let the business know because the more reports, the more accurate the picture is of what is going on. 3.) The office cannot take action nor respond if it doesn't know a situation exists.

He also once consulted me on dental work after confusing me with another patient. His daughter is even worse. Mia Gooding saw me for an emergency appointment in April 2024 when I was experiencing significant toothache pain. She ignored noticeable swelling on the left side of my face, treated me like I was wasting her time, and dismissed me, saying I had nothing to worry about because the x-ray did not show anything was wrong. Still being in pain, I immediately consulted a real doctor. It was quickly apparent to him that I had a very bad sinus infection, which can present as a toothache and swelling of the face (something Mia Gooding clearly lacks the skills to identify). When I confronted the Gooding office about the major mistake their office made, they simply defended charging for the emergency appointment and said the findings of the exam were irrelevant. They truly could not have cared less. Avoid this practice.

I found him through an online search of top RI dentists, and once I confirmed that he was a preferred provider for my insurer, it was full steam ahead :) I had to schedule a few months out, which was to be expected. It was a very pleasant experience. The front desk ladies, my dental hygienist and Dr. Correia were all fantastically pleasant. The hubby had an equally awesome time and we will happily be back!
