I'm visiting Berlin with my parents and my dad mentioned wanting to try schweinshaxe (pork…read moreknuckle). A quick Google search and I found Paulaner close to our hotel. The staff were friendly and spoke English. We ordered schweinshaxe, roast pork with red cabbage and potato dumplings, and sausages with sauerkraut and fried potatoes. I also ordered a beer (Paulaner original). The portions were pretty big. None of us could finish our whole plate. This was a good place for my parents to experience German food. The sauerkraut wasn't too sour. Everything was cooked perfectly.

Got to be in Berlin for what locals said was a highly unusual German summer week - it rained like…read moreevery day and a lot. After going around checking out the graffiti that is so popular around Berlin, took a break for some beers. Had a pretzel which was very good, though it's so strange that in most biergartens in Germany they only put salt on the bottom little part of the entire pretzel. I like so much salt I almost have to wipe some off. They said they'd give me some mustard and cheese, but then wanted to charge me for the cheese, so I just had mustard to help the flavor along. Also got some tea and the goulash. The goulash was amazing. I wish they had a large portion as a main. They only had a small cup as an appetizer. Shame. Anyway, it hit the spot, and the staff was very friendly, seemingly excited as hell to practice their English with us. Only fault - there was a steady stream of ants and I don't know where they were coming from - I think it might've been one of the menus they gave us. It's right in Potsdammer Plotz and seems like a German version of an Applebees but slightly higher end. Anyway, I'd go back for the goulash.

Paulaner - A pretzel and blonde ale. Why do Germans only put a pinch of salt on the bottom piece of the pretzel?! Gimme salt! Otherwise good.

Oh boy did yelp steer me in the wrong direction with this place! People gave this restaurant 4/5…read morestars so i thought It would be great italian food and It was not. Staff was very nice and friendly. Frankly they had nothing really italian on their menu. No typical pasta dishes, no chicken parmagiana. No chicken marsala, no pesto sauce, no penne vodka. It is like this place had no clue what italian food was or how to serve it. Sad that these servers were so good, yet working at a crap place like this. I ended up ordering 'homemade' gnocchi with homemade tomato basil sauce, it was bland, not very good at all. My dad tried to order chicken parm over pasta and got pieces of grilled chicken tossed in spaghetti from a box over the same plain tomato sauce. How awful. Their wine selection was pathetic, strange considering its an "italian restaurant...?' The server could not even tell me what the "Sweet wine" on the menu was. Yes that was its actually called on the menu. They only had three also...pinot, chardonnay, and 'sweet wine.' Awful selection for any restaurant let alone an Italian one. Overall I would never come back here, I would never suggest it to anyone, and shame on anyone giving this place more then three stars. For what????????? Their food sucks, their menu is not even Italian, and they have no real alcohol. basically the only thing good here were the servers!
