I was a regular at Blå Lotus in my teenage years, and in the 15 years that's passed very little have changed. That warm, cozy scent is the same. The India inspired decor is basically the same. And all the delicious sandwiches I used to spend all my money on are still on the menu, still named after worldwide deities, and the two pots of delicious chai (one soy, one regular) are still simmering on the stove. The only thing that has indeed changed, is that the two inner rooms are no longer smoke chambers. My thirties self feel that this is only for the good, though my teenage self would probably have disagreed :)
My usual favorite on the menu was Freja - a delicious hot sandwich with chevré, tomato and parsley salsa, and It's still there. Though on this visit I'd already had lunch, so I went for another favorite: Isis - hard bread sandwich with slices of feta, tomato and parsley/garlic salsa. It was just as divine as I remember it. And so was the chai I had with it. I remember the cakes as being equally heavenly, but had to resist them this time.
I love places that are able to withstand time and the changing trends, all the while staying genuine and true to their core. It is the proof of true jewel.
And I do love Blå Lotus, and Stockholm seems to love it too - because it is just as packed as 15 years ago.
