Generally, most of these restaurants have catered well for vegetarians so I've just opted for that. However, Lahore Karahi disappointed me. It's more of a fast-food diner than restaurant. And that isn't just a reflection of their tacky decor but also the greasy fast food that is ready in minutes. And their menu has little to offer vegetarians other than chips, which are actually thin, greasy fries. Don't expect comfortable seating. The chairs are plastic and tables have seen better days. Although the restaurant seems to be doing well considering its open all hours (or at least whenever I've passed!) and it's usually bustling with diners. However this could be because they're open till late and offer cheap, fast food. I went once but won't be going again.

The absolute best thing about Lahore is that it offers an 'all you can eat' deal for a little over £7 that incorporates all the main dishes plus sundries and naan bread. Drinks are extra, and I can personally recommend the mango lassi as a perfect palate-cooler after you've enjoyed some of the spicy treats on offer. Strongly recommended, it's definitely worth the trip. The only downside is that it can be a little tricky to find somewhere to park. If you can walk it, do so.

Like really? That's just pure lazy. They obviously havent heard of the phrase "Customer is boss". Or I probably just made that up.. They don't do red chilli sauce. Just ketchup and mint sauce. That's just silly. Are they trying to come off as too posh? I doubt it (read below). The soft drinks are £1.95 for a glass and the glass isnt even filled up to the top. Maybe 80%, which is not even close to the "Spill over" line. I ordered fries too but when they served them they included a few tomato pieces, lettuce and some soggy coleslaw that looked like it was from Hitler's time. Put me off a little. Ever smelt your socks after a long rainy day? When they served the mains I asked for salad to go with my main curry. They were like "But did you order salad?" In other words i had to pay for it. But hey it's ok to throw in some odd, uninvited salad in the tray of fries though right? The waiters were in a rush for us to finish our starters so they could serve the main. One of them was like "You done with your starters?" I replied with "Not yet". He then says "Ok ill give you a few more minutes". Lol he basically dictated how long I have left. Not even a doctor tells his dying patient that. But it doesnt stop there... When the starters were eventually removed from the table it took another 20 miniutes for the main to arrive. The main was supposed to be medium hot chicken tikka masala. But it was really bland and very yoghurty. Didnt even eat most of it. On the way home my wife joked that she wanted to order a pizza. But i dont think it was a joke. And considering she has a small appetite tells you all you need to know. Will I go again? Only if im physically dragged there. P.S. I still gave a tip of couple of quid. Probably because the coke was nice. And the building too.

It's not that I dislike Indian food, I just tend to have a preference towards Oriental/Mediterranean or more contemporary. However I have found some great Indian restaurants in the past couple of years and this one definitely makes the list (and is vying for the top spot). The restaurant is based in a striking converted church building and is well laid out with smaller private rooms off the main dining area. I'm told it is used as a venue for wedding meals and I could see why it would be a great venue for a wedding banquet. I was very impressed (and felt a little bit spoiled) to have the doorman open the front door on the way in and out and a girl greeting you on the front desk, rather than with some restaurants where you have to wait trying to catch a waiter's eye until someone has spotted you standing there. What a difference great service makes to an evening. Went on a Thursday evening and the main restaurant area was very busy and had a buzzing ambience. Was grateful however for the private area we had for the group as it meant you were able to talk privately but as it was linked to the main restaurant could still hear the buzz in the background. Our host had ordered a set menu. The starter was a plate of different meats and some fish. The meats were flavoursome and juicy and the starter alone was large enough to be a main course for me, in fact I thought it was the main until our host told us otherwise! For the main they brought out various dishes with rice, salad and naan. The sauces were rich and tasty and spiced to perfection. Even the hardened meat eaters complimented the vegetarian options. The only downside for me is that it was not located closer to the city centre. So do I think it is worth the extra effort of travelling a bit further afield to try? Yes, most definitely I do.

We started with the popadoms and Chef's platter for 4 (onion bhajees, samosas, buckrawta parcels and kababs) - so tasty and a good selection to whet your appetite. Then we got the chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, tarka dall and naan bread. Good flavor and not too spicy (at least not those dishes - I have heard that their dishes marked spicy are no joke!). Service was very friendly and attentive. They even called us a cab at the end of our meal! Would recommend it!

Thanks to all the Yelpers who provided recommendations!! The location is good, although I reckon there is a fortune to be made selling car parks in the area - seriously they are rare as rockinghorse droppings. Ambience was nice and the staff very accommodating - we were first sat next to a large very noisy group that made it tough for us as two of three at the table were hard of hearing, however the staff were very happy to shift us and we sat in a nice quiet corner. Wednesday night and they were pretty busy, so suggest booking for weekends. Cobra on tap, good wine list from around the world, and passable cocktails. :-D Poppadums and dips to start while we went through the enormous menu! Chefs Sizzler starter is great - bit of all the Tandoori meats, and we followed with Balti Chicken (of course) and two other curries which I could not name - a lamb and a prawn. All in all the meal was excellent, the naan bread possibly the best I have eaten, the roti thin and crispy, and all the curries well flavoured and spiced. Wish we were in town longer so we could do more of the menu! Recommended.

I think I am going to say it…read more.. This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Birmingham City Centre! Manzil's is situated about a minutes walk from the Bull Ring and people in the know who know about curry know what I am talking about with this place. When you walk in, you are met with a homely and friendly atmosphere which makes it a delight to eat in. It's an old school curry house which I love. I really like the wallpaper! I have got to know the waiters as I have visited so many times, who are really chatty and are always happy to see you. If you see Hakeem, he loves his Football! The music they play is so random and unexpected. The last visit I made, they were playing Britpop hits of the 1990's haha On this visit, I was with 4 friends from down south who were visiting me for the day, who are tough critics I may add! I had the Chicken Pakora which was a great starter and just the right size to begin the meal. For the main course I had a lovely Dhansak which was really filling with Pilau rice. Manzil's speciality is their sizzling dishes which provides a good alternative if you are not in the mood for a hearty curry. The biggest surprise came when the bill arrived and we split it. One of my friends said "That price wouldn't even get you a starter which isn't half as good as that in London." Says it all really!

I'd put it down to them doing more sales via delivery. But judging by the reviews of this place it's not a well kept secret. I was brought her as a 'proper curry virgin' by experiences prior had been out of a jar and pub curries. According to a friend this was unacceptable, so off we went. I can't remember what I ordered. I know it was vegetarian and not spicy - I can't do spicy as much as I try. You get a lot for your money, going for an Indian can be an expensive affair but this was reasonable by the amount of food received. The service as well is excellent, always smiling and helpful. I really must go again, I whole heartedly suggest the rest of you do too.

Lazzat is a buffet restaurant that serves Arabic, Kashmiri, Italian and Chinese cuisine, which is an odd combination that adds to its uniqueness. The buffet area is expansive with separate starters, dessert and salad counters. The main dishes surround the area with a stir fry stand at the end where a chef prepares your noodles freshly before your own eyes. Considering it's a halal restaurant, I was impressed by the range of vegetarian dishes provided. The food is a little bland for my taste buds, which means it would be universally appealing. The design has an Arabic feel to it with the emphasis on gold and grandeur. The staff are bubbly and helpful, which gives the restaurant a relaxed feel. When my friend recommended we went there for her Birthday meal it was the perfect opportunity to give it a try. When we arrived we had a table reserved for 8 of us which the waitress led us to. They had put a few balloons and table decorations out which I thought was nice although this could have been down to my friends mum I'm not sure! Although the inside of the restaurant wasn't as glamorous as other venues I tend to go, the food I ordered was presented nice and I could taste a lot of additional flavourings such as basil. We ordered a few bottles of wine for the table and the waitress was always on hand to ensure our glasses were never empty and the table was always clear. All in all the service was excellent, venue OK and food tastier than expected.
