Salmon and maguro sashimi
Patricia H.

I asked for small portions of rice for the nigiri that I ordered but still came with lots of rice. The fish did not taste fresh. And for some reason oil was on my dish. The ikura was very watery . Nothing tasted authentic Japanese. Restaurant is cute and service for good. Sadly I will not return. Shiono's is much more authentic.

The fish and sushi rolls were so good. The flavor profile on the wagyu roll was amazing. My husband will be dreaming about the toro nigiri until we come back. Great selection of food and fish is v fresh. Great and friendly service. Music was vibing as well. 10/10 recommend.

Kenpachi

The service here was phenomenal with the servers coming over and double checking our experience, while here I decided to try a few new items uni and kenpachi and eel, everything was super fresh. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of uni the texture was something special it was very fresh and worth it for the experience. They play really nice jazzy tunes from the 80s for the music and honestly it was such a vibe. I loved the kenpachi and the samurai roll was phenomenal my friends ate some nijiri and a cold ramen and rainbow don and mackerel. All of it was really good we topped off with dessert a tempura fried ice cream also delicious! The price was what I'd expect for an epic fresh sushi place I wasn't shocked by anything other than the market price of sea urchin/uni. All in all the service was top tier the guy came and checked on us and when he found out I was trying new things he was honestly excited to hear my opinion on it all.

Randomly picked this place to make a to go order for a bunch of the popular menu items here one day and now I can't stay away. Dining in with the team that runs this place is even more enjoyable than grabbing to go though. Ade is always a great server and everyone else clearly knows what they're doing because the food is fantastic. Even if you want to make an alteration on something they will make recommendations to make sure you can try all the best stuff. But the Wagyu roll is a must every time.

We had such a great dining experience here. The food was amazing, and we're really glad we decided to stop by. We came right when they opened, which worked out perfectly. We ordered Step to Heaven, Ankimo, sizzling steak, and a selection of sushi. Everything was delicious, but the sushi really stood out, super fresh and memorable. The steak was also incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. Our server was fantastic, she made sure everyone had a great time. You can tell this spot is going to do really well in Kona. I'd definitely recommend checking it out now before it gets hard to book a table. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more from the sushi menu!

The food, service, and the ambiance are amazing. Our server Ade originally from Indonesia was so friendly and welcoming. Practically, the staff were friendly and polite. I ordered their VIP tools for $24.00 and my wife ordered Tofu salad, wow! You can't go wrong especially if you're hungry like me. I didn't have any issues about parking either. Fantastic place and great staff.

It is great sushi restaurant, I think this is one of the top sushi spots on the island! The sashimi was incredibly fresh and high quality--you can really taste the difference. The wagyu beef roll was absolutely beyond, rich and perfectly balanced. Moreover, the soy sauce feel so rich flavored, and when I asked actually they have homemade soy sauce. I also loved the double hamachi roll, super flavorful and fresh. On top of that, the servers were very kind and attentive. Highly recommend

We tried Miyazaki in Kona last night for a pre-Valentine's dinner and it was absolutely amazing! So excited to have a new Japanese restaurant of this quality here on the Big Island. We started with sushi and Sashimi, king salmon, hamachi and the uni was incredibly fresh, rich, and buttery, and the scallop nigiri melted in your mouth. Beautiful presentation and perfectly seasoned rice. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients. The sizzling seafood entrée was another highlight served hot on a cast iron plate with tender squid, zucchini, onions, and colorful bell peppers in a flavorful sauce. It came out steaming and smelled incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor. One of my favorite dishes of the night was the carpaccio scallop appetizer. It was plated so beautifully with a light creamy sauce and fresh greens, almost too pretty to eat. The scallops were fresh and very delicate. The staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the night. The sushi chef even came out to our table to check on us and ask how everything was such a nice personal touch that made the experience even more special. If you're looking for a great spot for date night or a special occasion in Kona, I highly recommend Miyazaki. We'll definitely be back!

Miyazaki is hands-down the best sushi spot in Kailua-Kona right now. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place takes pride in what they do. The fish is incredibly fresh, the presentation is clean and intentional, and every bite tastes like it was crafted by people who truly care about quality. The ingredients and seafood are second to none -- you can taste the difference immediately. Nothing feels rushed or mass-produced; everything is thoughtful and dialed in. And the sushi taco? Absolute must-order. It's creative, perfectly balanced, and one of those items you'll keep thinking about after you leave. What makes this place even more special is that it's owned and run by a beautiful young family who clearly pour their heart into the restaurant and the experience they give every customer. The staff is inviting, genuine, and truly friendly -- the kind of service that makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. There's also convenient parking available in both the front and rear of the restaurant, which makes stopping in easy whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. If you're serious about sushi and want top-tier quality in Kona, Miyazaki sets the bar. Five stars without hesitation!

Chirashi and a roll I don't remember the name of in the background. We had the Wagyu roll as well that was gorgeous and the VIP roll too.
Summer Y.

Have been to this restaurant 3 times now in the past few months. Everything is wonderful from the atmosphere to the service. Food of course is amazing or I would not go back, have tried the tacos, various rolls and Chirashi, sake and beers. Even the music is great. Take out is also available but the vibe is so great there and location is central, make time to sit and enjoy.

best sushi in kona, hands down! food was so yummy and came out super fast. The Hamachi Carpaccio & Rainbow roll is my go-to and my other half loves the Nigiri. Service is always the best as well.

Sooooo good. Casual pleasant ambiance with classy yet friendly service. We are visiting from the Oregon coast where we live in a fishing town and have access to fresh fish -- so we have high standards! The hamachi was incredible-- melt in your mouth fresh. The Hawaiian roll was both simple and decadent, expertly topped with chopped macadamia nuts. The lilikoi jasmine iced tea was lightly sweet and refreshing. Highly recommend-- try it all; the menu is extensive.

So good! We had sashimi sampler & chicken katsu bento box & jasmine green tea. Everything came out super fast and no wait. Sashimi was delicious and cute and katsu was cooked perfectly. Yum

Despite the parking lot being quite full, there was still plenty of parking available, and we were seated right away. The menu had lots of options, which made it hard to decide what to order. I went with the Okinawa roll (shrimp tempura and spicy crabmeat inside, deep fried with eel sauce and mayo). My coworkers ordered the Big Island roll and the chirashi don, and they both loved their meals. My Okinawa roll tasted delicious, but it was a little too oily for me - probably wouldn't order it again. The tea I ordered also tasted very watered down, which was disappointing. Service was quick to take our orders, but my food came out way after my coworkers' dishes. Understandable since mine had to be fried, but I ended up awkwardly watching them eat while I waited for my meal to arrive. Overall, a decent sushi spot with good options - just be mindful of what you order and expect some timing issues if you're ordering different types of dishes.

We opted for the Omakake (Tasting) Menu along with the Wine Pairing for each course. We knew it would be expensive (prices intentionally deleted), but we felt it would be a wonderful experience. We have eaten at Morimoto at Sea on several Holland America Line ships, including our recent cruise on HAL's Nieuw Amsterdam that has a dedicated Morimoto Restaurant mid-ship on deck 11 -- those meals have always been fantastic. Back to last night. Disappointment #1 -- The wine for the first course arrived 5 minutes before Course 1, the Toro Tartare. The wine had lost most of its coolness, and intended flavor and aroma, by time the dish arrived. Disappointment #2 -- The Intermezzo dish, the Sudachi cucumber sorbet was a bit sour. Other intermezzi that I have had were a slightly sweet, perhaps lime or lemon sorbet. AND they typically were paired with a splash of champagne or a sparkling brut (why not include the Morimoto Dream Rosè?) Disappointment #3 -- Course 5, the Surf & Turf, was bad! The very small portion of the Wagyu beef was Medium Well to Well Done and appeared to have been burnt over a flame. When we told our server, his comment was, "That's why I recommended the Japanese A5 Wagyu [at an additional $80 per person!]." Sorry burnt beef if burnt beef, no matter what the price. Training/Expectations seem low: Where do they get their water glasses? On the discount table at Walmart? These two are different styles on the same table; at least our two were the same style, although different from those two. And the dessert spoons -- two different styles given to us. I expect (and I am sure others also do) a much higher standard at this famous Iron Chef restaurant. DELIGHTS: Course 1 - The Toro Tartare was so tasty. We are used to a tartare to be chopped, perhaps even finely chopped, but this one was made into a puree. The toppings (caviar and rice crackers were tasty, and the rice crackers looked like little sweet ice cream toppings. Course 2 - Red Snapper Carpaccio was liked by someone who does not normally like raw fish. The light sauce added a subtle dash of flavor, and we were able to roll the pieces with chop sticks and heat an entire price at once. Course 3 - Lobster Takoyaki. The three "lobster balls" were served warm, and they were very tasty. A large piece of lobster in each roll was a true delight. Course 4 - Sushi. The 5 pieces of nigiri were Chu Toro, Hamachi, Salmon, Campachi, and Big Eye Tuna. There was a light smear of wasabi between the fish and the rice; I had already asked for more (and hotter) wasabi that I mixed with the soy sauce. We brought a few pieces of the sushi back to the condo for a later snack. Course 6 -- the dessert was so-so in my opinion. Sharon liked it, so it was probably just my tastebuds and not the actual dessert. We had planned to go back to Morimoto Maui next week for a special Wagyu and Wine pairing, but based on last night's Wagyu failure, we have cancelled the reservation. I hope that our next dinner at a stateside Morimoto restaurant (probably Morimoto Napa in 4 weeks) is a much better experience for us.

We saw from Yelp photos that Canoe House offered a tasting menu at some point in time, but during our visit, it was more of an impromptu tasting menu of sorts -- created by our server, rather than an official one with a set beverage pairing. In any case, we still had a wonderful experience ordering items a la carte. Before diving into the food, I wanted to call out the outstanding service at Canoe House. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and our server started and ended the meal with a round of congratulations. Throughout our meal, our server was super attentive and there was never a moment when our water cups were empty. Empty plates were promptly cleared, cutlery was refreshed when it was needed, and whenever a dish was brought over, he would carefully slide things around on the table so dishes were accessible and not overcrowding. Friendly, professional service of this level is honestly hard to find these days outside of Michelin dining establishments. My wife and I started our meal off with the large loaf of pull-apart milk bread ($18). The milk bread was incredibly fluffy and the outside was finished with some honey and sea salt. The sweet cream butter was rich and had the perfect spreadable consistency. As tempting as it is to want to finish the loaf, you'll definitely want to safe your stomach for the rest of the meal. The next items that we ordered were two chilled oysters ($7/piece), and a hamachi + uni citrus salad ($14). Since we were dining as a couple, our server informed us that we could actually order half-portions of some of the dishes. This was a perfect way to not fill-up before our mains arrived, so we did that for both the salad and the gyozas. The uni in the salad was melt in your mouth tender and had a delicious sweetness to it. I thought the hamachi in the salad was a bit unremarkable: it was certainly fresh and there were two generously sized pieces in the dish, but the fish definitely needed a bit more salt to it. Our next and last appetizer to arrive was the beef and foie gras gyoza ($7/piece). The chili garlic ponzu sauce the gyoza is resting leans towards the sour side, but that's my personal preference when it comes to dumpling sauces so I really enjoyed it. The filling inside the gyoza was on the leaner side compared to your typical pork and cabbage dumpling, but I didn't mind this too much since there was so much sauce in the bowl to accommodate the dumpling. The next four items we ordered all arrived together: the garlic fried rice ($32), the Kona kanpachi ($67), the Iberico char siu pork ($65), and the side of sugar snap peas ($22). Of these items, my favorite bites were the Iberico pork followed closely by the garlic fried rice and the sugar snap peas. If we could've ordered one fewer dish, it definitely would have been the Kona kanpachi. While the fish was flakey tender and the the skin was cooked to be perfectly crunchy, the portion size was far too large for two, and I thought the coconut ginger sauce felt a bit diluted and not as flavorful as advertised. I wish our server warned us that we had ordered way too much food, because we brought 85% of this dish home as leftovers. While I don't necessarily mind having leftovers, having leftovers on vacation -- with less than ideal heating methods available (i.e. hotel microwave), is not great. Overall, I couldn't help but feel this dish was somewhat a waste of money for the two of us. On the other hand, the Iberico char siu is a dish I'd order again and again if I were to come back. The pork was lean and grilled to perfection. The charred end pieces were some of my favorite bites of the night. I didn't miss the fatty bits that are typically present on a piece of char siu pork, and the mustard that accompanied the dish was not over the top spicy like some of the mustards you find at dim sum restaurants. The garlic fried rice was packed with so much garlic flavor. One criticism I had with the dish though is I wish the hot sizzling plate the dish was served on was even hotter. The rice that was in contact with the plate didn't crisp up in the same way that it would with a Korean bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl, or the socarrat at the bottom of a Spanish paella. Nonetheless, the dish was well-seasoned. If you want to save a bit on carbs and not fill up, you might want to skip this dish. Overall, the dining under the stars experience at Canoe House is hard to beat. The service is incredible, the included validated valet parking experience is seamless, the ambience of the hotel where the restaurant is located is breathtaking, and Chef Rhoda has really done an wonderful job with the vast majority of the items we tried. I would not hesitate to recommend Canoe House for celebrating a special occasion if you're visiting Hawaiʻi.
