Mittlere Brücke ("Middle Bridge") is the oldest existing bridge across the Rhine River which extends from Lake Constance to the North Sea. It was completed in the 1200's. In the early 1900's it was entirely rebuilt. It is 192 meters long and 18.8 meters wide, built from local granite. This new bridge was refurbished in 2002.
The bridge is open to trams and buses plus pedestrians and bicycles.
And while it was at one time the middle bridge, there are more in Basel since then so that it's no longer the middle. Passerelle des Trois Pays, Dreirosenbrücke, Johanniterbrücke are downstream with the Wettsteinbrücke and Schwarzwaldbrücke are upstream.
There is no toll to cross the Mittlere Brücke.
