Amazing cathedral, with grandiose architecture, beautiful tiled roof, and scenic views over the city. Don't miss the scenic view from the church backyard!

This cathedral is nothing particularly special. It has an impressive size & decent vaulting & some post medieval stained glass but is on the plain side. If you've been to other cathedrals, the main reason to come here is to see Erasmus's tomb. The crypts look promising with 13th century frescoes but they're closed when the heating turned on. On the up side, entrance is free for the church itself.

For my the No.1 sight in Basel. The famous Basler Münster. Sitting on the hill in the old town, overlooking the whole city. Also nice to spot it from the "Mittlere Brücke" for some good pics. It's been here for about 1000 years (with some changes of course). Originally a Catholic cathedral and today a Reformed Protestant church built in Romanesque and Gothic styles. It's quite a sight and it's nice to just be/sit here on this square and to look at it. But be sure to go inside and also out back, where a small park with nice views is waiting for you.

I have been looking forward to seeing this historical beautiful church since we started planning our trip several months ago. Finding out one of the cities Christmas markets was here made it a simple choice for us. This imposing building built on the hill above the Rhine River is incredible. The beautiful red sandstone construction adds to its beauty. We toured the inside and were also able to climb the bell tower. The climb isn't strenuous, but it is steep.., narrow, and has a couple of low spots to crack your head on if you aren't careful. The 100+ steps lead to a narrow balcony that you can walk around. Did I mention it is very narrow? It is! The view is worth it though. From the river side around to the city, it is spectacular!

    Great views after your climb.
